Finally it feels like the Giants are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Giants are heading into 2021 with a QB and (hopefully) a top 3 RB back and the entire offensive line on rookie contracts(I kbow about Solder carrying over and Gates' cheap extension). Daniel Jones gets better every week and it's not crazy to think he might be a top 5 guy, but let's assume he is top 15 for this thread.
The defense is the strength of the team and is still very young. If we can bring back 2 out of the 3 of Tomlinson, Williams and Ryan, while younger guys like Dexter and Holmes and McKinney(I really hope Lorenzo is okay but I am not counting on him) continue to develop that side of the ball looks solid.
Compare to Philadelphia: hasn't drafted any significant talent in years and the core of their team is really starting to show their age. They are paying Wentz upwards of $30m a year and he's playing like the worst qb in the league. Pederson is coaching like a degenerate gambler that refuses to take a loss. Philly has been kicking the cap-space can down the road for years and it's going to be tough to justify that going forward.
Dallas has been coasting on a very cheap and very dominant OL for almost 10 years but these guys are coming up towards FA. No way to hold on to them all and they still don't have a qb signed going into 2021. Dak might barely be walking by August, that was a pretty gruesome injury, but he is still going to demand a big payday to come back. They have Lamb who looks good bt Gallup is getting old and Cooper has been underperforming since before Dak got hurt.
Washington is not in the worst spot, out of the 3. They have a young defense that is playing very good football, and an elite defensive line. They have a top-tier receiver in McLaurin. Unfortunately Washington has no QB and there's no guarantee Rivera sticks around after the cancer scare, which would probably set them back another year. They are also stuck with Snyder, who could fuck up a wet dream.
The Giants could own this division for years to come if Joe Judge and Daniel Jones are who we think they are. The future looks very bright in my opinion.
Ok.
Don't forget Joe!!! Gettlemen that is!!! Finally we can see if crazy dream. He missed on Pat, gave Eli one too many, and missed on a few free agents, but has hit homeruns everywhere else. Which makes him Hank Aaron of GM. Will strike out from time to time, but when he hits its a homerun baby. He hit on Barkley, OBJ Trade, Daniel Jones, Dexter Lawrence, trade thank God of
our sack leader Leonard Williams, Joe Judge hire, Logan Ryan, late round picks of Slayton, Shane Lemieux, Nick Gates, and Lorenzo Carter. Free agent signing of James Bradberry, Blake Martinez ( first decent MLB in 20 years), and Golden. Yes he did fix the O- line with Andrew Thomas finally
Washington hasn't got a long term starter and their deal with Alex Smith will run its course soon. But still it's an area of concern for them.
Only the Giants are set with a low priced QB that is a long term solution. I like that.
He has a hamstring. And he had an ankle. These are not even close to OBJ broken legs or ACL's.
Did you mean to say that he's getting older? As in, he's older than he's ever been and now he's even older?
Older - ( New Window )
If Jones ever becomes a top 5 QB, I’ll eat my hat. His ceiling is game manager with wheels in my opinion. I don’t look at Jones and think “there’s a difference maker”.
My concern with Saquon has always been his style - he's almost too athletic for his own good.
Compare him to Tiki for a sec - Tiki was great at finding creases, getting a few extra yards, but going down and mostly avoiding huge hits and putting his body at extra risk.
Saquon needs to learn to stop trying to hurdle defenders and jump cut when the big play isn't there. His athleticism is off the charts, but sometimes it's better to burrow for 3 yards and go down than to try and turn nothing into a home run
He would often be better off protecting his body than to try and leap a defender to turn a 6 yard gain into an 8 yard gain
Entire offensive is dead due to their OL which allowed them to not only run the ball effectively, but run routes that many teams couldn't. That's vanished.
Additionally, their HC was recently quoted (leaked) that he wouldn't mind being fired. That's from two days ago.
They definitely have internal issues to get straightened out as wel.
The East looks like hot trash because 3 of the 4 teams changed their coaching staffs. Doing an overhaul to offensive and defensive philosophies with the short camp has killed them. These might not be the elite teams, but I'm sure next year we will see different results and there will be a couple .500 or above teams.
In the NFC East the needle is pointing up for us. Its also point down for the Cowboys and Eagles. Both teams are aging in key positions and are poorly coached. Washington I don't have a handle on yet. If pushed I will say the needle is point up too, however they do not have a QB which is a big part of this.
Aaron Rodgers covers up a lot of warts....
Did you mean to say that he's getting older? As in, he's older than he's ever been and now he's even older? Older - ( New Window )
I saw that also.
After next year Cooper will be released and Gallup will be signed to a new deal. Dallas will have Lamb and Gallup as their 1 and two in 2022.
As for Jones, "top 15" is most likely his ceiling. The sooner everyone starts accepting that and stops assuming that he's going to end up in the upper echelon of NFL QBs, the better off we'll be as a fanbase.
You can win games with an okay QB if you've got an overall strong group of coaches and versatile players who can exploit opponents' weaknesses. Early returns on Judge are positive, but making any determinations about what's going to happen over the next several years is a fool's errand.
Philadelphia and Dallas have been going back and forth for a while at the top of the division. A down year can lead to the perception of a down future.
The team that is in trouble is Philadelphia. They have an aging roster and are according to Overthecap.com minus 65 million dollars in 2021. That team will be gutted just to get to even.
Dallas has questions on their roster, but they have young talent that can step in. Dallas also has 28.5 million dollars in cap space(2nd in division). I know that Prescott needs to be signed, but Dallas has many contracts that can be restructured to create the cap space for Prescott and roster building. Dallas is in a much better position than Philadelphia.
NY is probably in the best spot. But upcoming contracts with Barkley and Jones will determine if they stay there.
If Washington had a QB for the future, they would be in the best spot. Rivera and Del Rio were two good coaching hires. Washington also has the most cap space at 50 million. With a good offseason, they could vault to the top of division.
I see a three team race with Philadelphia falling off a cliff.
