Oh boy - what is happening here. In the beginning of the year we heard how eliminating ticky tacky penalties would be the initiative for the refs this year. But watching these games, the final scores and outcomes are really living and dieing by the PI flags. Last nights game showed this and even our own Giants game with Darnay.
Ive been joking saying - why not just throw a 20 yard pass every play. You dont think 1/3 will be caught or a PI/Holding/Illegal Contact gets thrown? I do believe were at that point. Would like to see the analytics of the 2020 season taking in account 20+ yards and their reception percentage and or penalty if anyone can do that.
3 PI flags that NEED to be reviewed in the offseason.
1. The classic QB underthrow of a reciever when the defender doesnt get its back turned. Last night we saw Wentz throw a terrible pass to Goedert well short of where it needed to be but it hit the defenders back while Goedert was trying to get his hands on it. This should be on the QB and they should not be bailed out by penalty if contact is minor.
2. Handfighting on Go Routes - let WR/CB battle along the sidelines. Too many times is contact not clear and/or obvious.
3. CB positioning on Dig Routes - usually the defender comes over the top and rests his outside arm on the WRs hip with minimal contact being used and uses other arm to bat ball/defend pass. Happened on the sideline in last nights game and went against Philly. This game is wayyy to fast for CBs to avoid complete contact with the wideout.
I just really think the quality of these games is nosediving with these penalties.
Another thing, if the CB's can't touch the WR's then the WR's shouldn't be able to touch the CB's. So many WR's push off its pretty much on every contested throw and rarely called.
I also see alot back of the endzone on uncatchable balls and questionable contact.
Some officials eat the whistle while others seem to call every infraction
There also appear to be inconsistencies even with officials at the same game
I think that the infractions should not be vague
They should be specifically defined similar to a fumble
I also hate penalties that are called that are away from the action and no impact on the play.

That inconsistency within the same crew is what drive players and coaches nuts. and it leads to the impression of bias.
Just look at last week or the first Philly and Dallas games. Just one drive after a call or no call, the next drive results in a crucial call that was very similar, yet interpreted the opposite way.
The drive before holmes was called for PI in the end zone (which almost always gifts a team a TD), Golden tate had his arm held on a 3rd down conversion attempt.
We had fewer rules
We allowed more contact between the CB and WR
Less controversy over what is a catch
It was easier for officials to call a game
We let the players play
We had bad calls and that will never stop. To me there were fewer of them and not as many deciding the outcome of a game
please bring back the big QB hits and the concussions... thank you

There would be situations where blatant interference was a smart play, but it is far better than the crap we're getting now. I would like to see a team have a choice... either take 15 yards, or an automatic first down at the line of scrimmage. Either way there is a first down, but eliminate the huge field position swings.
Not perfect, but you never want the refs to be the only people on the planet that saw it wrong.
Every call needs to be reviewed like college. Game is too fast on the field and TV doesn't lie. I know the replay result at home on my big screen before they figure it out on the NFL field.
Not a good formula.
Would be cool to if the had an Iwatch type device that the replay clip could be sent to them.

You're right. That's why I proposed the team receiving the penalty can choose a 1st down at the LOS, or 15 yards...
