Defensive end Carlos Dunlap has been exactly what the Seahawks hoped he’d be when they traded for him in late October, so they’ll be holding their breath while they wait for word about his foot.
Dunlap has recorded four sacks in his first four games with the Seahawks and his arrival has coincided with an uptick in the Seattle pass rush across the board. They have 19 sacks since Dunlap joined the team, including six in Monday’s 23-17 win.
Dunlap had half a sack in last night's game against the banged up, undermanned Eagles OL. Going over the stats from the game, I also noticed that of the Eagles 46 pass attempts, 25 of them targeted tight ends and running backs.
The Seahawks were on a record-breaking pace in the yards allowed column when Dunlap joined the team and they were still last in the league going into this past weekend. I didn't crunch the numbers to see exactly how much he helped improve their defense, but whatever improvement he gave them will hopefully be nullified by his injury.
p.s.--Dunlap cost Seattle a 2021 7th round pick and a backup OC (BJ Finney) in trade. Gettleman would've been crucified on BBI if he had given up anything similar when the Giants were 1-6, but in hindsight, he might've been a worthwhile addition. Or not. Hard to tell how he would've fit in with the Giants mainly 3-4 alignment, but it's probably just as well they didn't add him, even in hindsight.
who returned on Nov 8 is a great player and probably more of the reason for their improvement. When he wants to play (like last night), he is all over the field and hard to stop.
