NFT: Expedia refund problem- any BBI advice?

Bubblerjuke : 12/1/2020 2:20 pm
Incredibly frustrating Expedia problem. Due a refund of about $500.00 I have emails from expedia saying its coming;

Refund amount: USD 463.60
How you'll get your refund:
We'll apply your refund to
AmericanExpress ending in 1---
Cardholder Name:
When you'll get your refund:
The refund was queued for processing on October 14, 2020.

But calls get put on hold while "investigating the issue"..than disconnected after 70 minutes!! Its happened more than once.

I'm at my wits end. Any body been down this road? Any suggestions?
Note sure how

helpful this is but they do say refunds may take longer due to COVID. I cancelled a trip back in June and was refunded within like 2-3 weeks.

Have you called American Express? Maybe it's being held up on their end.
When did you make the charge?

I was recently involved in a fraud case with Bank of America and I had paid my bill with the fraudulent charge and I thought damn, now I'm out of luck.

the Bank of America agent told me they have no limit for reporting fraud.

maybe try and dispute it with your bank.

I would just dispute the charge with your credit card company.
went through this earlier during covid

for our honeymoon...had half booked through expedia and half through chase travel (which uses exedia on the backend)

FUCK EXPEDIA!! they will keep lying and promising you. I have Chase CC and did what BH said..put a dispute with them and expedia hasnt fought it (yet..since april-may)...dont bother going through expedia anymore..whether it is 2nd or 3rd level support in the states..they all suck and will lie
Just call the tollfree number on the back of the AMEX card

Explain the issue that youre having problem with a vendor/Expedia, and you want to chargeback. Let AMEX take care of it.

Problem solved, no questions asked.

Expedia doesnt give a shit about you. But they do care if American Express- the guy that actually pays Expedia- is under the impression that they're ripping off their cardholders.

This is part of the courtesy/benefits provided by AMEX and other CC companies that come with booking with a credit card.

A similar issue with Priceline. Received a full refund for trip but not the 600$ goodwill credit they also said would be applied to my card. That was 8 months ago
slightly off topic
pjcas18 : 12/1/2020 4:56 pm : link
but why do people book through expedia or other travel aggregators?

I hear nothing but problems with them. Is there a significant discount?

I hear about people struggling with normal/non-pandemic stuff like simple seat assignments on flights, not to mention flight changes as well as hotel room details, etc.
Try This

Can't promise this will work, but when I have problems like this and keep getting the runaround, I try to find the name of the company's general counsel and write a polite but firm letter asking them to intervene and make it unnecessary for me to go to the credit card company or my state's consumer frauds bureau. Usually works within a day or two. In this case, the information was easy to come up with on Google:Bob Dzielak at (425) 679-3644, or at bdzielak@expedia.com
My wife had the same experience with NCL

Her cruise was cancelled right at the start of Covid and she was promised a refund...then the run around started. She started blasting them on social media and eventually they called her. Took 5-6 months...but it worked. Find a few popular travel sites and start posting your issue...they definitely monitor them and it's not good for business.
Had a problem with Airbnb over the summer

After 2 or 3 weeks of long holds and disconnections, I disputed the charge with Amex. Within a week Airbnb finally issues the refund I was promised. It was definitely not a coincidence.
