even if you split it by era, it's still tough. I see a ton of the shows I enjoy on this list. Just want to give a shout out to "Party Down", I watched it when it first aired but I just finished binge watching the 2 seasons recently and it's still just as good as I initially thought it was.

It was on the same level as The Office/30 Rock/Parks and Rec/Community from the same era imo. Awesome cast and a ton of classic moments despite just 2 seasons.

The Office - just awesome - best cast and writing I've ever seen. Seems like there's ALWAYS a friend or family member binging the series.
Roseanne (90's) - yeah, she's bats, but that was a freaking awesome show. A 180 from traditional *safe* nuclear *Leave it to Beaver/Cosby wholesome families, Connor's were a broken, messy lot, showed how a loving family can cure a lot with humor.
All in the Family - made America take a long, hilarious look in the mirror. O'Connor and Stapleton were incredible.
M*A*S*H* - show got soft and overbearing by the end, but early on was cutting edge, hilarious.

Honorable Mention: Freaks and Geeks - one perfect season, launched a solid half-dozen amazing careers, fantastic writing.

Wait a minute - There was Newhart in the 80's and The Bob Nehart Show in the 70's but never a The Newhart Show.

Which did you mean? For me the original was brilliant with Bob as the psychiatrist but the 80's show with Bob as Vermont Inn owner/Author surpassed it.

I think its kind of rare to find someone who is a fan of both Community and Big Bang Theory...

They are about as diametrically opposed as 2 shows can get!

One is an extremely intelligently written, boundary pushing show disguised as silliness, the other features mediocre writing with traditional classic sitcom situations disguised as intelligent

Full disclosure but also stating the rather obvious: this coming from a Community diehard still bitter over the mass appeal of BBT in the same timeslot as Community

that I control F'd and couldn't find. Wouldn't be near my Mt. Rushmore but worthy of being mentioned as classics.

Martin - Martin Lawrence in his prime was hysterical. He's one of those guys who could make you laugh without even saying a word.

Trailer Park Boys - If the Office "fake doc" style counts as sitcom then this should too. Just a hilarious show with a cult following but one that a lot may not know about.

Undeclared - I'm not sure why this is considered a sitcom but Freaks and Geeks isn't, but seems like it based on google. Both shows remain cult classics but this one kind of flies even more under the radar.

King of the Hill - I saw The Simpsons and South Park mentioned a few times, if those count as sitcoms this one should get love too. Such an underrated show from that era.

The Nanny - Pretty funny show but mainly mentioning it to remind people what a smokeshow Fran Drescher was in her prime.

Horsin' Around - Really funny show with a great cast, underrated.

Full disclosure but also stating the rather obvious: this coming from a Community diehard still bitter over the mass appeal of BBT in the same timeslot as Community

I shamefully haven't seen Community, but I have regrettably seen Big Bang Theory and just don't understand the appeal.
I can't believe there hasn't been one mention for Sopranos.

The Office is a poor example. I thought it was well understood that the Office was a sitcom. Where's the debate? Just because there is no laugh track?

Maybe most of you guys are a little too young to grow up with it. A classic if there ever was one!
