even if you split it by era, it's still tough. I see a ton of the shows I enjoy on this list. Just want to give a shout out to "Party Down", I watched it when it first aired but I just finished binge watching the 2 seasons recently and it's still just as good as I initially thought it was.
It was on the same level as The Office/30 Rock/Parks and Rec/Community from the same era imo. Awesome cast and a ton of classic moments despite just 2 seasons.
I love Seinfeld. I generally don’t like comedies and pretty much never find them funny. Seinfeld broke my brain for sitcoms. Office, Arrested Develoment, Always Sunny, I’ve tried em all and didn’t like any of them. Even Curb doesn’t do it for me.
Also, this fits this criteria ... I was too young when Three's Company was on but I have seen episodes in the past. Some channel has reruns on every weekend. 8t is hysterical. It holds up remarkably well. I have a hard tike turning it off.
in here. Probably one of the best written sitcoms ever. The show was very well produced as well, their sets were amazing for a silly sitcom. Barney and Marshall are two of my favorite sitcom characters, ever. Nice to see some depth in a sitcom.
The Office - just awesome - best cast and writing I've ever seen. Seems like there's ALWAYS a friend or family member binging the series.
Roseanne (90's) - yeah, she's bats, but that was a freaking awesome show. A 180 from traditional *safe* nuclear *Leave it to Beaver/Cosby wholesome families, Connor's were a broken, messy lot, showed how a loving family can cure a lot with humor.
All in the Family - made America take a long, hilarious look in the mirror. O'Connor and Stapleton were incredible.
M*A*S*H* - show got soft and overbearing by the end, but early on was cutting edge, hilarious.
Honorable Mention: Freaks and Geeks - one perfect season, launched a solid half-dozen amazing careers, fantastic writing.
Wait a minute - There was Newhart in the 80's and The Bob Nehart Show in the 70's but never a The Newhart Show.
Which did you mean? For me the original was brilliant with Bob as the psychiatrist but the 80's show with Bob as Vermont Inn owner/Author surpassed it.
Realistically, it's not a top-10 sitcom because Jess (the lead role) weighs it down. But for me, I'd put the trio of Nick Miller, Schmidt and Winston up against pretty much any group of characters on on these lists.
