Our Record versus Seattle

M.S. : 12/2/2020 10:10 am
Can the Giants snap a 4-game losing streak against Seattle? Colt McCoy ain't gonna lead this offense to 30 points on Sunday. Gotta think this game rests with our secondary and whether or not our Edge players can make Russell Wilson feel uncomfortable. I think we have a chance if we hold Seattle to under 17 points. What are the odds of that?

I have a few recollections of past Seattle games. My strongest one is of Coach Pete Carroll after the Giants walked into his house and stomped his team 41-7. He faced the Seattle reporters and said matter of factly that his goal was to build a team that can play like the New York Giants.

Another memory was the 36-25 loss at home in 2011. And even though that was our Super Bowl season, all the seeds of destruction could be seen in that home loss against Seattle. They cold-cocked on both sides of the LOS. They made our O-line look like 5 old grandpas sitting in a rocking chair. And Marshawn Lynch abused our Front 7.

My last memory was (I think) the 2005 loss in Seattle. I seem to recall that our kicker F-ed up Big Time and cost us the game.

2005 was just a brutal game

The one with Petigout false starting like 6x and we missed ike 3 fgs in 4th qtr and ot?
I’ll always remember that 2005 game and I didn’t even watch it

Crammed in the back of a Civic, coming home from college, 7 hour drive turned 11, and we were listening on radio. Just an absolutely brutal experience all around!

I will forever hate Jay Feely for that game. Absolutely horrible.

Yes. Frankl Walker had his usual personal foul too.

What was most galling is that the Giants dominated the line of scrimmage. Osi in particular just owned Walter Jones.

DK Metcalf. 6ft 4ins, 229lbs.
James Bradberry is going to have his work cut out.
This game will be interesting...
BamaBlue : 12/2/2020 10:37 am : link
and will likely come-down to how well defense and special teams play. We have a bad Giants offense vs. a bad Seattle defense; and good Giants defense against a very good Seattle offense.

I don't know if that was the 2005 game or not but IIRC the game you're thinking about Diehl also had like 5 false start penalties too.

This guy is a beast. Megatron #2. Keeping my fantasy team alive.
I was at that game in 2011.
McNally's_Nuts : 12/2/2020 10:57 am : link
It was a weird game. Tavaris Jackson went out with an injury and Charlie Whitehurst promptly carved up the Giants defense in the 2nd half.

If Cruz doesn't slip on his route and bobble that pass, Giants likely win the game.
Had 490 yards of offense in that 2005 game
Greg from LI : 12/2/2020 11:07 am : link
But only 21 points. Feely missed the three FGs, two of them in OT. Giants got flagged for 16 penalties for 114 yards.

It particularly pissed me off to lose to a team with Joe Jurevicius. Hated that guy after he blew the 2001 Rams game for them.
I have caught a lot of Seattle games...
bw in dc : 12/2/2020 11:40 am : link
and it's pretty clear Wilson gets some serious special protection. I think Clay Matthews once got a penalty for breathing on him.

Hopefully the staff notices this and tells the pass rush to play it extra safe.

Otherwise, and I guarantee this, there will be a key third and 15 in the game where someone like Tomlinson scrapes Wilson after he releases one of his balloon passes. The ball lands incomplete, but Wilson looks at the ref like he just got shot. And a flag is thrown...

And in the game thread BBI implodes. Book it.
Interesting history lesson,
BelieveJJ : 12/2/2020 11:59 am : link
but none of those prior games has anything to do with how the Giants will perform next Sunday.

- JJ.
Wilson is usually the kind of QB that gives the Giants trouble.

The very good kind.
None of what happened before matters

The Seahawks are a top offense and we are without our starting QB. Our D has been pretty good and maybe they could, normally, hold them within range. The problem is with McCoy at QB it's unlikely our offense will function as well as it has been leaving our D out on the field far longer than it should be. Not a good thing.
The '05 game sucked

vs. the Chuck Knox Seahawks with rookie sensation RB Curt Warner. Last home game of the 3-12-1 season. Scott Bruner tries to lead a 4th quarter comeback- and the twin TD to Ernest Gray is nullified on a holding penalty.

Yeah, I'm old.

At the 2008 game which was a lot of fun. Completely dominated on both sides of the ball. Jacobs and Bradshaw ran wild and even Sinorice Moss caught 2 TD passes

More worried about Lockett as others have stated in other threads. Bradberry matches up very well to Metcalf.
Giants lost to the Eagles 11 straight before the last game...

...Giants NEVER won in Cinci.

Therefore... what?

If I was a Seahawk fan, I'd be super nervous, because for them, this game has TRAP written all over it.

Was one of my favorite memories from my early Giant fanhood. I was at the game with my Dad, I remember the crowd being awesome and in the Xmas spirit, and IIRC, I think it was on a Saturday potentially (which makes games a lot more fun when you're in middle school).

Come from behind victory! Great game to be at.

For some reason, the first half of this list has some very memorable games.

And yeah, 05 sucked. I think SNL did a skit about Jay Feely's ride home on the plane the week after that game.
Also - if the Giants DO win in Seattle?

It will change EVERYTHING. The way EVERYONE views the Giants.

If you want to see the last loss for that team before they reeled off twelve in a row, the game was posted a few months ago.

You do get to listen to Pat and John.

2005 loss
PaulN : 12/3/2020 10:24 am : link
Was a bad loss in a typical up and down season in Eli's career, three weeks later we had the 2nd great win of that season against an 8-5 Chiefs team. I remember that game Tiki was unstopable, 220 rushing yards, 29 recieving. Giants will need to hold Seattle to no more then 24 points, they will need a big special teams play, they can not turn the ball over, the Seahawks defense is not very good, we need to run the ball effectively, but I expect them to play 8 in box, we must take some shots, but we must hit on at least 2 or 3 of them, once again Engram needs to have a big game, we need some big performances, we need a 7 catches for 135 and 1 TD type performance from him, we also need to convert in the red zone and have at least a 50% convesion rate on 3rd down, we must extend drives and keep the ball out of Wilsons hands. Its a lot to ask, but lessons must be learned after the losses to the Steelers, Bears, Rams, Coowboys, and 1st Eagles game, we are on a 3 game winning streak, the offense can stay the same, except for a few special Jones plays, the Giants can do this, and may catch Seattle looking ahead, just think what this win would do for this team.

Well said. If memory serves, after the Seahawks loss in 05 we beat the Eagles and Cowboys the next 2 weeks

Giants went to the Kingdome and suffered one of their two losses in a 14-2 Super Bowl winning season.

I don't recall much about the game, but I do remember Pat Summerall mentioning Jacob Green (their pass rusher) a bunch of times.
It should be a game

The Eagles made it a tough game for them, and that's with a brutal offensive effort.

Rams and Bills gave good tape on Wilson. Delayed blitzes seem to give him problems.

Metcalf and Lockett are tough to shut down on the deep stuff for an entire game unless you have some top corners or maybe a great pass rush.

I see the game somewhat close.
