I would say WWII was the most "nuts" and considering the incredible number of people at war and killed and personal stories like my uncle who was a scout captured by Germans and not heard of for over two years. One day a letter came from the Army. He had been a POW and was alive. In addition, there were huge advancements in technology never before seen that paved the way for space travel, computers, medicine, nuclear power.

This should not be overlooked - After he retired from athletics, Johnson...was instrumental in creating the California Special Olympics.
