NY Post “glimmer of hope” for Jones on Sunday

Nothing really new or earth shattering.

It doesn't take much to re-injure a hamstring...
Milton : 12/3/2020 4:59 pm : link
I'd rather he not rush it. They don't need him to beat the overrated Seahawks. The Giants will score 30 points and idiots will be asking for Colt McCoy to be the new starter.
Keep the Seahawks guessing, but
CT Charlie : 12/3/2020 5:05 pm : link
please don't play the guy.
Hopefully Judge
Trainmaster : 12/3/2020 5:09 pm : link
is using this to force Seattle to spend at least some additional practice time preparing for both QBs. I'd still sit Jones regardless.
My heart

tells me I want to see DJ on Sunday. My head tells me it's not a good idea. But...if we can beat Seattle...

You just put my head in a blender. What?
This team is not scoring 30 pts with Colt McCoy leading them

I'm just having fun, but none of what I said would surprise me. The Seahawks are overrated. The Giants could score 30 points on Sunday. And some of the BBI'ers who have trashed the Jones pick and have trouble admitting they're wrong could drum up a McCoy bandwagon if he has a good game (which is not unusual when defenses face a backup of which they have no film). Matt Flynn landed himself a huge contract off of one game as backup with Packers and then lost the starting job to a 3rd round pick in training camp?
The Seahawks are not overrated
UConn4523 : 12/3/2020 5:41 pm : link
They have a top 2-3 QB, an elite WR and really good run game when Carson is back fully. Their addition of Dunlap was pretty big, and Adam’s is their big X Factor to go along with the LBers.

They are the best team in the NFC, in my opinion.
Odds are that every other NFC east team is going to lose this weekend
BH28 : 12/3/2020 5:42 pm : link
Having Jones come back and re-injure is not worth it when there are more important games to be back for, like AZ or CLE.

They should keep him out as a precaution.
Don't like reading that Shepard and Slayton were limited in practice
Milton : 12/3/2020 5:52 pm : link
Giants need them on the field on Sunday and McCoy needs them in practice during the week.

There’s lots of film on McCoy bud, he’s played a bunch of games in the NFL. So it’s way more likely he found success as surprise QB then going forward. How much have you seen of Seahawks? Overrated is not the word, especially with Dunlap and Carson on roster. They played a clunker on the road against the Eagles and still won that game handidly.
They have better be right if they play him
US1 Giants : 12/3/2020 5:57 pm : link
can't count on him following a rule not to run.
If he's healthy play him - if he's still got a twing let him sit
PatersonPlank : 12/3/2020 5:59 pm : link
Either way we can move the ball on this crappy D. The question is can we stop the Seahawks offense
To be honest,
redwhiteandbigblue : 12/3/2020 6:36 pm : link
Hamstring injuries, even the mild ones take weeks to heal at the bare minimum. If you play DJ in 2 weeks it will not be fully healed. With that said, play him if he is able. Otherwise if you are waiting for it to heal you will be waiting until the season is over. Tape him up and give it a go. If he falters, take him out. Season is on the line.
No offense to anyone here
Vin_Cuccs : 12/3/2020 6:58 pm : link
But no one knows anything about this injury. We have no idea of the severity. He has access to the best doctors and trainers in the world. I’m sure he’s getting treatment around the clock. If the training staff determines he can play, then he can play. I don’t think we can compare this to people pulling their hamstrings in their slow pitch softball leagues.

Agree all that, UConn, and add in Lockett (unless your elite refers to him and not Metcalf, then add Metcalf).

I'd opine, however, that GB is best team in NFC. If/when they square off, will be one of the most interesting games to watch.
That post came across as rude.

My point is there is no comparing injuries, and we shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Come on. We're all doctors who have the latest medicals on DJ. How dare you criticize us?

I thought your post was rather cordial
I don't think Judge will force him into the lineup....
Fishmanjim57 : 12/3/2020 7:23 pm : link
The fact of the matter is that McCoy can also run the ball, so I hope Garrett puts some QB rush plays on the playlist.
It's gonna be a tough game, but I haven't given up hope that they can get a win.
I'd rather give DJ a couple of games off and have him come back against the Browns.

UConn-- I agree that their offense is great, but they are also the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL (yards allowed per game). I agree that thanks to Russ and their great weapons and run game, they are still a solid playoff team, but I can't call them the best team in the NFC with the worst defense in the league.
Shep just came back and is limited already.
Dave in Hoboken : 12/3/2020 8:05 pm : link
I know he's gonna play, but jesus. And poor Slayton has been banged up the majority of the season.
All that said--
Leg of Theismann : 12/3/2020 8:07 pm : link
I personally think Judge is gonna get his squad ready to play and they're going to give Seattle a close game (even with McCoy at QB), but I don't see us winning. I'd still give us like a 30% of chance of winning, which isn't nothing, but I don't see Russ letting this one slip through his fingers.

My prediction: With a full week of reps with the 1s, McCoy is going to do better than people expect simply because the Seattle pass defense is so awful. He'll convert some nice 3rd downs and have people thinking we have a chance. I think we'll run the ball decently well and all that will help keep Russ off the field. Hell, we might even get a lead at some point. But I don't see us shutting that offense down for a full 60 minutes, and we'll ultimately lose by like 7-10 points.

Compared to other posts on this board, that post doesn't even register on rudeness scale.

previous stories about Jones, I think he'll play if he thinks he can do it. The kid is tough and will play through pain. That said, I'm going to be shocked if he doesn't miss at least this one game.
Just shoot him up and let’s

Obviously no one knows, all we can do is conjecture. Atheletes are always going to push to play, the challenge is weighing the pros and the cons. Soft tissues injuries, IMO are judgement calls. There is plenty of evidence of re-inury with an athlete trying to come back too soon. Two recent examples are Julio Jones and Aaron Judge.

Here is a case study on 43 hamstring injuries amongst NFL players:
Quote:
Players missed 2.6 ± 3.1 games. Based on MRI, the hamstring injury involved the biceps femoris long head in 34 cases and the proximal and distal hamstrings in 25 and 22 cases, respectively. When < 50% of the muscle was involved, the average number of games missed was 1.8; if > 75%, then 3.2. Ten players had retraction, missing 5.5 games. By MRI, grade I injuries yielded an average of 1.1 missed games; grade II, 1.7; and grade III, 6.4. Players who missed 0 or 1 game had an MRI score of 8.2; 2 or 3 games, 11.1; and 4 or more games, 13.9.

Quote:
Rapid return to play (< 1 week) occurred with isolated long head of biceps femoris injures with < 50% of involvement and minimal perimuscular edema, correlating to grade I radiologic strain (MRI score < 10). Prolonged recovery (missing > 2 or 3 games) occurs with multiple muscle injury, injuries distal to musculotendinous junction, short head of biceps injury, > 75% involvement, retraction, circumferential edema, and grade III radiologic strain (MRI score > 15).

Typically if an injury is minor you don't see such cagey responses and 'outside' chance of playing. I would think that is leaning towards gamesmenship as mentioned previously to make seattle have to prepare for him. And it makes sense, the risks seem to far outweigh the beenfits when there are arguably much more important games further down the line.

So true! How can you replace Jones' 212 yards/game and .73 TDs/game? You'd almost have to sign Sam Darnold to get those type numbers. You're right...no reason to question the greatness of Daniel jones! He's amazing!

Just for reference...Jones still (in 11 games) hasn't thrown as many TDs as Dak did in 3 1/2 games (9). We basically spent the 6th pick on Trent Dilfer without the SB win.

If Daniel Jones played for any other team in the league, this board would bre ragging the shit out of him. Instead, you guys make up BS narratives to make him great. It's getting to the point that a no turnover, no TD game is an amazing accomplishment. The defense has improved...Jones has regressed mightily! He hasn't even thrown a TD in our last 2 wins?
All about making Seattle plan for two guys
AnnapolisMike : 12/4/2020 7:29 am : link
Even if Jones can play it is a smart move. Colt McCoy is a veteran. If he plays well, he will not be the reason the Giants lose this game.
