NFT: Experience with Co-mingling current and legacy Sonos?

Racer : 12/3/2020 5:19 pm
Considering the addition of a Beam to a new TV install. Sonos FAQs indicate that introducing a current gen aka Series 2 product will require use of two separate apps (Series 1 devices use the 'Sonos S1' controller app) and the devices will not work together.

Has anybody had experience with mixing the S1 and S2 products? Would be interested in hearing about any successes or struggles.

Thanks in advance
Yeah I'm having a similar question

I have an S2 compatible system save for one old Sonos One in my wife's office. So we are on S1. Anybody know what the benefits are of S2? Far as I can tell from a cursory look, seems like mostly marketing.
S2 is the “next gen” operating system for Sonos

Which supports things like Dolby Atmos today and, probably more importantly, support their software roadmap in the future.

You can still control most older S1 products with the S2 app, but they won’t be supported going forward.

Great sounding speakers but poor customer service. The app is just horrible.

Sonos speakers are great, but as someone else said, the app sucks and you have to use it.
