I know there was a thread the other day on Maggie and Moose, and some comments inevitably veered towards Carton and Robert new show.
I have tried listening to them, and I just can't. I love Evan, but Carton is such an absolute disgrace to sports talk radio. I don't get why the FAN thinks the audience wants to hear his schtick?
He *does not* talk sports. He's just not a sports guy. Beyond being a massive douche bag, which Francesa was too, he just has no knowledge, and doesn't seem to care to talk about our teams.
It's just him telling personal stories, and trying to have a good old time with his new pal Evan.
and Evan just goes along with it. There is no analysis, the interviews suck, the debates suck.
Carton has good energy, but he just wants to be some entertainer, just telling stories about his days, who he meets, and random shit.
WTF is the fan thinking. They need to get him out of there ASAP. I hate Michael Kay, but at least his show talks about sports; maggie and moose are very mediocre, but they at least talk about sports; the only show now that provides any decent analysis about current events is probably Richard Neer on Saturday mornings and Ed Randall during baseball season.
I grew up listening to the FAN, Mike and the Mad Dog, Sweater and the Schmoozer, Beningo on overnights, Joe and Evan.
It's brutal and sad.
Before he got busted, I would start my morning commute when driving listening to Boomer and Carton. It was more because I couldn't stand Mike and Mike than anything else. But, just about every morning about 10-15 minutes in I got sick of Carton's schtick and flipped to Z100. Anything is more entertaining than that obnoxious prick.

Carton’s schtick can work in the morning, but in the afternoon on a sports radio station, I just don’t see it. The sad thing is, Evan will be the fall guy.

The issue is wfan has not been able to produce a pipeline of talent. The station was able to fill the Imus void, but never filled the Mike & the Maddog void. They are still trying to figure it out.
Evan is best in the midday. I’d pair Evan with Maggie. For the afternoon, I’d try to bring in Sid Rosenberg. He’s polarizing, but knows NY sports. He’ll piss people off, but I think it could work.
Now, I miss Joe more than ever.
As some have stated, Moose and Maggie DO talk sports, little side talk. I agree, but maybe their chemistry/delivery is just so-so for me. I only listen here and there.
But Carton...almost everyone here has stated the problems with him and the resulting show (mess), and I agree. He has this sort of radio ADHD where he is all over the place. I end up listening to podcasts or YouTube instructional videos like how to patch sheetrock and how to do your own patio. At least I will get something out of that rather than pure frustration from Carton.
I wonder if Evan will bail out and go to a perhaps a national broadcast platform or MLB? I guess it depends on ratings and the paycheck, but I couldn't sit and be talked at by Carton.
Just a thought, because ya know, he sucks. Who'd want that guy back unless he had something on you
Agree with the earlier poster who said he was more tolerable when Boomer's status as the Big Man kept him more in line.
Losing Joe to retirement stinks, but it's made even worse with Evan getting dragged down into the mud with Carton.
I've literally never heard someone more obnoxious in my life than Carton. Which is totally besides that fact that he's a thief, fraud and convicted felon.

The new Carton/Roberts show has gotten crushed by Michael Kay in those demographics too in their first few weeks
Who knows, maybe they'll catch on with some people. But I tend to think the younger demo is typically going to other forms of media for their entertainment nowadays anyways.

WFAN would get what they deserve if they lose ratings with this buffoon. And, while I don't particular think Evan Roberts is a good listen, he at least is a serious sports fan who is knowledgeable and doesn't deserve the hand WFAN dealt him with this dope as his partner.
I'm in the midst of that demographic but I don't know too many other people my age who listen to talk radio. Podcasts are more popular.

For an afternoon show where people I think want to hear sports, the mix just doesn't work.
If anyone is looking for an alternative, Rothenberg, DiPietro & Canty on ESPN are a really good listen. Rothenberg is a huge Giants fan so they talk a lot about the G-Men. Canty is awesome and still roots for the Giants (and Ravens). DiPietro is the worst of the 3, but still not bad. And get this, they talk sports 90% of the time!
Michael Kay Show is infinitely better. They talk sports, obviously, but they bust balls and have all these little inside jokes with the audience, and it just makes the show fun and flow really well. I even grew to like Rosenberg who I couldn’t stand for a long time,

I like Evan’s Saturday morning show, but he isn’t able to articulate his thoughts Monday-Friday. It’s a shame.
I think what's hilarious is - if it's not a staged gimmick - that he got upset about questions that he would have asked himself.
This is all on Chernoff, but Carton will be given every chance to beat Kay. Just feel bad for Evan.

That’s the thing. There isn’t room for shock jocks on radio anymore unless they are supremely talented. Tampa has some solid guys that are syndicated I believe on the bone and I rarely tune in unless I’m commuting and looking for some local Tampa stuff. The podcasts are a billion times better and callers don’t add to the experience like they do to sports shows. The people that call those type of shows are often so dumb it hurts and it’s already showing with the callers they have on Evan and carton. Podcasts like the legion of skanks and Tim Dillon do it a billion times better.
