But through all of this and his career with the Giants he seems to have his head on straight, is a good teammate and a decent guy. Wish his performance or outcomes were consistent, he'd be a great guy to keep.
he's just not what we thought he'd be for a 1st round TE. and to be fair, not a lot of 1st round TE's are.
he's just frustrating to watch because in 4 years he hasn't gotten better at blocking and doesn't have the production one would expect for a guy with his size and athletic ability.
There are some coaches who are disciplinarians and some who are
These are the consequences of those actions had me cracking up. Being a guy that is authentic and guys want to play for goes so far as keeping a team focused in the ups and downs of a season. We really knocked it out the park with this guy.
That's commitment. Judge really seems to nail the balance between discipline/accountability and being relatable. Reminds me of drill sergeants toward the end of a training cycle. The expectations never change and if you fail to meet them you're gonna pay what you owe. But there's also some connection and fun.
Why isn’t Engram at WR? He'd be an above average blocker as a WR (Burress and Toomer's downfield blocking really helped Tiki Barber).
Because they aren’t close to the same type of player. DK has elite long speed and is very physical catching ball, and still has better agility than Engram while poor. Engram actually has better hands which is wild to think about.
the case has been closed on Engram just yet. He's gone through a pretty rough patch here and he sure as hell seems to bring along a black cat that constantly crosses the team's path, but there's still time for him become what he's capable of becoming.
he's just not what we thought he'd be for a 1st round TE. and to be fair, not a lot of 1st round TE's are.

He's a great teammate & a leader? Based on what? That's a legit ?. Have I missed something about EE being great at both?
That was one of Engram's best games as a pro. Hoping he can build on that performance throughout the remainder of this year.
It wasn't just the fumble, he also cost the team a 1st down on 3rd down by not running his route deep enough. Engram was still more positive than negative that game but in general these kinds of things are an anchor to the team.
The trouble with Engram is that he isn't a TE or a WR
Can't block like even an average TE and doesn't run routes and catch like a WR. So hope they can move him in the offseason. I sick of them jumping through hoops to accommodate his limited skills.
That was one of Engram's best games as a pro. Hoping he can build on that performance throughout the remainder of this year.
The good thing is Garrett seems to finally realize that Engram is more valuable attacking downfield than on drags and Curls. When was the last time we saw Engram running this many streaks, corners, and posts?

Yes, that was the huge difference in his last couple of games. Somebody a few weeks ago posted a route chart that showed Engram was running really short routes earlier this year. Seems like Garrett made a change recently. The speed in which he gets downfield on a seam route in incredible. Wish we'd see more of those.

you haven't seen or heard him do anything that was detrimental to the team(outside of drops). he's constantly rooting on his teammates, he's not an asshole with the media.
what where you expecting superbowls?

I wonder if it has to do with the o-line improving their pass blocking, allowing more time for routes to develop downfield?
Only on BBI can a great situation happen that was posted
The growth I'm seeing is over the shoulder throws. Despite his speed, the Giants NEVER threw to him downfield. No seam routes, no outside 9's. It was 2 yard square ins and square out. Or sticks routes. He got beat up, and I believe lost his confidence.
He's been a coach-killer to date, and a big reason we aren't 7-4 instead of 4-7. But he's just hitting his prime now - 26. Next year 27. And this staff seems to have developed almost every player on the roster.
has reached ridiculous proportions. We're now going to kill the guy and attribute one questionably run route as the reason why they lost or almost lost the game?
We can do that all day with all of these WRs. Engram has also helped this team win 3 straight games, do we ignore that and just focus on the 1 bad play he had? of course not.
The drop against Philly 5-6 weeks ago has also been overstated to some extent. We act like good or even great pass receivers don't ever drop the ball, even in a big spot.
Some of you should act like you know nothing about Engram and just judge the guy on how he's playing week to week. Not being objective at all. Who is the best pass catcher on this team? Simple question, we all know the answer.

It's because people need to find something or someone to blame. Engram is public enemy #1 around here but he's not THAT bad a player.
If some had their way Engram would be elsewhere and we'd have complete trash running routes and we likely lose 1 of these last few games. I guess we won't acknowledge that though.
on Giants.com was a great use of Engram. It was the deep ball up the sideline in the 1st quarter.
The Giants went empty backfield, then motioned the RB into pass pro. When the LB followed him in, they knew it was man coverage. It was trips left with Engram 1on1 to the right. He ran right by Vonn Bell for an easy huge play.
That's how you use Evan Engram. In that situation - he absolutely is a matchup nightmare.

To suggest that fans on picking on Engram after the numerous gaffes he has had is comical.
He has made critical negative plays in almost every game I can recall this season. And I am not talking about he had a quiet game or two...he has actually helped the opposing team do better AND HE PLAYS OFFENSE FOR US.
Engram has talents and we have seen it...no question. But his weaknesses are becoming overwhelming. The coaches continue to put him out there because of their patience and because this team sorely lacks playmakers.
When one of those two things changes he will probably be playing somewhere else.

I think that may be my fault. I was just making the observation he seems like a decent guy and a good teammate. BTW I think EE picked the bucket hat. Thats his style. Can't see JJ making that call. Seen EE in multiple bucket hats.
RE: There are some coaches who are disciplinarians and some who are
'player's coaches'. The best coaches combine attributes of both. I think Joe Judge falls in that category.
Yup. He's a lot closer to Bill Cowher than to Parcells or Coughlin.
Not that there's one right way, all 3 of those guys were winners, but the whole fake narrative created by some in the media that the players would hate Judge bc he made them run laps was always short sighted
along with the running game opens up Engram downfield. Maybe they kept him in short because they knew Jones had to get it out quick?
In any case, I like what Judge says "He works his ass off" I dont think Judge gives faint praise so if Engram continues to work, he should improve. Let's see.
Been a hard year to come in as a rookie coach without camp and preseason. But he clearly kept his team during a discouraging start and has improved crucial units (o-line, secondary) with help from his staff.
It’s a pretty good comp to Flores’ work with Miami last year. Feels like a good shot that we’ve found a coach for 10+ years. That’s a huge score rather than being in Detroit’s situation. Just a big fan of Judge.
That doesn’t mean he’s been all bad, especially lately. We’re better with him than without, at least for now.
Yep. He’s definitely someone who makes me post Like a jackass during game threads. But he was a net positive last week even with the fumble. He’s not perfect, but at least his routes lately are tailored to his strengths of being a mismatch in space.
He doesn’t come back to balls well over the middle, and so I’m always nervous of a lb/db undercutting him for a pick - but throws outside that are leading him or up high are really places he can excel.
Between a players coach and a drill sgt because it “seems like” he’s no nonsense in practice and in the locker room (making players and coaches run laps, not afraid to get into it and fire Columbo) but you NEVER see him put his team (or the other team) down to the media. I think players respect a guy that’s gonna ride them hard in practice but have their back against anyone else.

Metcalf is simply much better at using his physical attributes to his advantage than Engram has shown.

Agree, for now. But the criticism is warranted.
