Dante Pettis

Jim from Katonah : 12/4/2020 1:56 pm
I’m intrigued by this guy. All time NCAA punt return TD leader. Super talented, rangy, springy long strider, mid 2nd rounder in 2018 who has had some big games with the Niners (I think he has 8 career TDs in limited play). Has a reputation of being kind of an offbeat, surfer dude, and has seemed to have been in Shanahan’s doghouse for a while (with whispers of softness). But he always popped on the screen for me as a dangerous, slippery receiver.

I saw that he’s been activated this week. Maybe with a change of scenery we catch something good here. Finger crossed that he feels an urgency to compete now that his career has been upended.
Wow, didn’t realize he was a second-rounder

he is an intriguing prospect, and maybe this staff can get more out of him. The talent is there.
Perhaps the second coming

The Giants need their special teams to have a great game all around if they are going to have any chance of winning this game. A big return and/or a return TD would be a much needed boost this week.

Similar to talking giants with Bobby skinner

They, all 3 of them, were totally perplexed as to why they gave up on pettis. They said when given opportunities he played well. They were all furious that he was cut. If anyone has the time they can search for 9er discussion Dante pettis. I’m sure you’ll find the video. The hosts last name I believe is Cohen.
all I know is

they'd better have him return punts at some point
all NINE of his collegiate punt return TDs - ( New Window )
His dad is MLB vet/coach Gary Pettis

... and he seems to have a reputation for being a distracted rich kid and maybe not especially physical. But Pettis is not an average bottom of the barrel waiver pickup — the dude has serious talent. Maybe he finds his niche here. Likely not, but worth watching. He can fly.

definitely, and given the way Jabrill is playing I don't want to see him returning punts either.
I recall Gary Pettis

Didn't NE, as well as a few others, also put in a claim on him? I'd say that speaks to how other teams viewed him and his talent level.

He averaged over 17 ypc as a Niners rookie, with 5 TDs, as a rookie in 2018, before he hurt his knee. Fell into Shanny’s doghouse and they drafted bigger more physical WRs over him thereafter. Finger crossed.

Yup. Stud talent, maybe has matured and the Jints catch lightning in a bottle. As Andy Dufresne said, hope is a good thing.
He could be our next

The answer is easy- he wasn't displacing, Samuel, Ayuik, Bourne, or Taylor. He's a #5 wideout in that group. They have James as a KR. Pettis was expendable.

The fact that we even want to look at him is a commentary on our WR corps. He's worth a shot since we got nothing behind the first 3 wideouts.
If nothing else

PRand KR please.....
This coaching staff is doing a great job.

They are etting the most from players. Peppers was gifted but it wasn’t translating to the field. If They can get DP focused on football and have similar success with him this kid can be a stud. I’m intrigued as well.
Pettis set the NCAA Div I record ....

For punt returns (9 TDs) at Washington, that is serious talent. If our coaching staff can find and push the right button in his head ......

Yes sir. Pettis has serious horsepower. Maybe a change of scenery ignites him.
