FYI...

Preview: New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks, December 6, 2020 - ( New Window )
spot on Eric. They have a chance, but everything has to go perfectly.
Victor in CT : 12/4/2020 3:19 pm : link
They can pull it out as you said with D and a few tricks. I agree, keeping Wilson int he pocket is going to be more important than sacks.
I just appreciate the Jeff Rutledge shoutout...

for ST which we'll need to win to have a chance.

Not nearly as confident as if we had DJ of course, but I still think we can win.

Judge has this team in a really fun, confident way right now. Seattle's defense stinks. If our D can keep this low scoring I like our chances.

Seattle's defense is weird. It's dead last, but third against the run. I'd feel better if they were terrible against the run.

As I said, I don't think McCoy can win this game unless he has a ton of help from his receivers and backs. People love to shit on Daniel Jones, but we saw the difference when he left the game last week.
I have been both caught up in the 'hype' of winning 3 in a row
Dinger : 12/4/2020 4:08 pm : link
and the reality that is the NY Giants. While we may have been feasting on the bottom feeders, we also competed VERY well against some decent teams (see the Bucs, Rams, and steelers, considering it was our 1st game with a new coaching staff and a bunch of new faces, while they've had the same core for like 10 years). But honestly, I've been looking towards this game and the Cardinals game as almost sure fire losses. The quarterbacks are mobile and great passers. I think they are both too talented for our defense to overcome. And in the case of the Seahawks, I feel the experienced coaching staff along with other talent on offense will be too much for us. As long as we show up and are competitive I'll be happy. the team has shown impovement this season and I am hoping for no regression. I am looking forward to the returning injured players, added draft and free agent talent and a coaching staff with a year under their belt. From here on out they need to continue to improve on the OL, see what we have in our secondary and tru to avoid MAJOR injuries.

Unfortunately I believe we are going to see much more of the passing game than most think. Seattle is great against the run to begin with and I guarantee you that they are going to be stacking the box to stop the run now that McCoy is behind center. Seattle absolutely knows the Giants want to run the ball and will be priority number 1 to stop it. Add in the fact that Garrett is notorious for giving up on the run early when it isn’t working and the possibility of Seattle getting an early lead and it all just adds up

Agreed. Great review. Seattle is very good at stopping the run, which is what we need to do to take pressure off McCoy. A backup QB and pedestrian WRs probably won't be able to exploit their weak secondary.

On offense, Wilson and his WRs should be able to find plenty of holes against our defense, especially since his mobility can buy lots of time. We have to hope that our DL can overwhelm their weak OL quickly enough to contain him. I am not optimistic.
Defensive Strategy Question
Trainmaster : 12/4/2020 4:24 pm : link
In general (I know the coverages will rotate), is it better to:

1) Put Bradberry primarily on Lockett 1 on 1 and double Metcalf with another corner and a safety or

2) Put Bradberry primarily or even exclusively on Metcalf 1 on 1 and rotate players on Lockett?

I like Bradberry on the bigger Metcalf.
If this offense somehow finally starts making plays for McCoy

I'm sure we'll have the DJ detractors come out the wood work. The thing is, I could certainly see that happening. Gallman seems poised to break one here soon. Just so close. Add to the fact is these guys might elevate their play and start finishing some plays they haven't all year, rallying around the backup. It's been known to happen. All week I'm sure Judge has been hammering home that everyone will need to be part of this victory and on their A game with a backup QB at the helm.

You hit on this in review, but I thought this was the most likely loss remaining anyway because the Seahawks defense with Adams and Dunlap is stout against the run. For the offense to function, due to our lack of talent on outside, this is going to have to be a fundamental part of moving the ball. Maybe with DJ and a heroic defensive effort I could have saw us winning, but I'm just not seeing a path to victory. Although I'm sure Judge does and like they say, any given sunday.
Oline needs to take control of this game

and dominate. Let’s see how they attack that D. McCoy will have to make some throws in this game in order for the Giants to have a chance. Keep it close till the 4th and then anything can happen. Chances are Seattle finds a way to pull it out with their outstanding passing game.

Seattle has also given up 15 rushing TDs this year. That's really bad.

I always hated that saying. On one hand I think this allowed to win games like the 2 Pats SBs under Coughlin. On the other hand I feel like that is why we always played down to our competition and had trouble being consistently good.
For those that have paid attention to the Seahawks the last

Month and a half or so, the book is out on how to beat them. The answer is pressure the shit out of Wilson. He isn't as mobile as he was when he was younger. He is nowhere near the runner he once was. Their OL is a weakness. This is a team you have to attack. I am concerned about this game because Graham doesn't blitz much. This is the team you blitz. Do you try to defend against an opponent's arms and legs or do you cut off his head? This is the game to cut off his head (attack Wilson). I'm curious to see if we go with that approach. Judge preaches flexibility from week to week. If he's true to his word then that is what I'd like to see. I'm not talking about 6 or 7 man rushes. I am talking about min. of 4 and sometimes 5. You can still man up and have another free defender.

Now, for contrast, I think we match up very well against Arizona. Arizona is a team you want to play zone against so Murray doesn't take off. You can double cover Hopkins and have more eyes on Murray like NE did. NE gave us the blueprint.

I'm very curious to see what we do. I know some will say that we can't leave Metcalf and Lockett one on one. Yes, we can. Seattle's big plays in the passing game are mostly from off script plays where Wilson has time and can buy time. If you force Wilson to make quick decisions we can win this game.
I have a funny feeling
SLIM_ : 12/4/2020 8:23 pm : link
that Gallman will be very effective running the football. I don't think Alfred Morris will however as I think he is a little too slow to hit the hole.

Not a big fan of going against what has worked for us on defense.
Excited to see what this Defense comes up with.
mittenedman : 12/4/2020 9:21 pm : link
Seems like this is a confident group right now playing good football. They need a big effort to win this game. Can't wait to see how they respond. Like SEA's D - they are getting better as the season goes.

Except there really wasn’t a book to beat them other than hope Chris Carson was out hurt, completely different offense out there with him. Teams could sit back and run zone blitzes and Russel was making poor decisions. They have a bunch of man killers out there but not too many zone busters. DK is not what you’d consider a possession WR. They are a completely different offense with Carson in the lineuo

We’re going to play zone. Nobody needs to travel. We’ll play with extra DBs. Rush only 4 on passing down. This game is the same strategy as facing the Bucs, saints packers etc. You win by allowing the front 4 to stop the run and rush the passer. Everyone else focuses on the passing game heavy quarters and cover 3 vs Russ is the only way to win
Going to be a long day

Im hoping we can keep it within a TD but realistically I don't see it.
Seattle is on a different level than the Bengals or skins are.
My expectations are low
TJ : 12/5/2020 10:58 am : link
I'll be pleased if Giants are still in this game in late 3rd early 4th quarter and if the team is still fighting hard late in the game. I'll be even more pleased if there are no new injuries.
I think the run should work for us
Boatie Warrant : 12/5/2020 11:50 am : link
Seattle Defense may be 3rd against the run but is it because they can stop the run or is it because they can't stop the pass so everyone passes on them?

Going to be a fun game to watch.

I also agree with attacking Wilson.

They stop the run well, especially with Dunlap and Adams. Dunlap missing this one would get our chances off near zero. Gallman is going to need to break some of these runs to have a chance here, just hard to see with Adams on the other side of the field.
I wasn't aware of this -
