NFT: Which is the better sequel? Godfather 2 or Terminator 2

Terminator 2, great as it is, is basically a repeat of the first movie, with cooler F/X. The story of Godfather 2 expands on the original, and brings all the themes to a great conclusion. (I pretend Godather 3 doesn't exist.)

T2 was a really good film, but Godfather 2 ranks among the best ever. There is no comparison.

I agree with this completely.

But T2>T1 like G2>G1.

Has a strong case for being the greatest movie of all-time, let alone the greatest sequel

Terminator 2 is a movie that is awesome when you're 13, but gets worse with the passage of time. Not "bad" but not great either.

Respectfully disagree with T2 over T1. T1 was the best in the franchise no question to me. More of a horror movie than the others and Arnold was way better off playing the bad guy terminator. He size was intimidating making him all that more scary.

As for sequels, I've always been an *Aliens* man, myself.

And I will say, the Alien, Jules Winnfield and Jack Torrence would individually and certainly collectively lay waste to the Corleone Crime Family.

It seems to me a fruitless exercise to say which is "better" across different genres. For me Term 2 was better than Term 1, Empire was better than Star Wars, GF2 maybe better than GF; both great films. So 3 great sequels, and I still love all 3. But hey, what kind of mood are you in tonight? Epic family generational drama? GF 2. Action/adventure? Term2. Sci Fi? Empire. You can't go wrong.

What about Back to the Future 2? In some ways that's better than the first. But totally different from the others.

but if you're talking about how good the sequels were in comparison to the original classics (which is what I think you're doing), then it becomes a legit discussion.

Count me in with the people saying the original Terminator was better than T2. Don't get me wrong, it was an exciting sequel and Sarah Conner had developed into an awesome character by that point. It was cool to see the new villain with his liquid style make Arnold's character look archaic. But all that being said, the first Terminator movie felt "scarier" with Arnold as just this monstrous villain trying to kill Sarah.

Although The original Godfather was a classic, the introduction of Robert DeNiro as the Young Vito in the 2nd movie added a brand new dimension. DeNiro was just the perfect actor for the role and watching Vito ascending at the same time as watching Michael get more vicious as The Boss was just amazing. Whereas I think T1 > T2; I think DeNiro's performance, Young Vito arc in general, and the overall darker mood gives The Godfather 2 the edge over Part 1.

And its not close BUT

If you account for the level of good from #1 to #2 for both franchises, i think T2 has a greater margin.

And while T1 and T2 were very good, they aren't in the same class as the Gs.

Aliens just blew my mind in the theater.

I can't believe this is even a debate.

The real question is which one is a worse film - G3 or T3.

Think if you compare the franchise's then terminator movies 1-3 eaily beat GF 1-3. But as stand alone GF2 is like one of the top 10 movies of all time.

Those that say T2 is way better then T1 I would have to disagree T2 was a great action movie but T1 was more designed to be a horror movie on a small budget and was perfectly executed.

T2 is far and away the greatest action movie of all time and an outstanding all around movie in its own right but it isn't close to G2

And the kids acting is so fucking bad it can't be compared to a masterpiece like Godfather 2

And also T2 was far better than T2. Godfather 2 is great but so was godfather.
