Not as good early as we'd hoped, but it's been a strange year for player development, without a normal off-season. (This will also probably be an odd off-season.)
I haven't paid a lot of attention to Becton but I gather he's ahead of Thomas, yes?
It looks like all 4 of those tackles are gonna be good
is a trade down. To stay put and take Thomas at #4 there should have been way clearer signs that he was going to be better than the others and I don't think that those were really there.
It shouldn't be viewed as unknown knowledge, all the mocks had at least 2 of those T's as low as the 10-15 range. I think that is an important part of the Giants drafting problems, it's not only an assessment of the players it's that they don't appear to have a good sense of value and how to move around in the draft based on how other teams assess value.
Way to early to call it, I agree, but the fact remains that he has been out a couple of times already. But time will tell. He may get over that issue, and he may not.
Andrew has been available for every game.
How long have you been thinking about this fresh topic?
Becton has a chance to be the best LT in the NFL. go see baldingers take and many other takes. Thomas has a chance o be a good LT, but Bectons upside is way way higher. Seems like the only question for him is health, his play will be elite. Build an offense around LT type player, rare.
Must not watch this guys and go off what other people are saying. Becton has been great in run blocking but his pass blocking is a work in progress. Same for Wills who’s had his ups and down. The guy who has looked the best is Wirfs. He plays at RT and plays with Tom Brady, who does a great job of setting the protections.
Thomas has been fine. He’s improve greatly since the beginning of the season. He needs to get stronger and work on his hands “punch”, but he should be a cornerstone player for this franchise going forward.
when I saw they were winning. On the last drive the announcers were basically imploring the Jest offense to "just run the ball behind Becton". I guess he was that dominant.
Hope Thomas can get there someday. But actually with OL what you would settle for is you never have to hear his name called. That means his doing a good job.
and probably his best player he's faced, Thomas is doing fine, he's improved throughout the season. Finish strong and his prospects for being a top flight LT for a good while are looking good
Exactly. Thomas has been improving and Becton has missed time. Who knows what the future holds. Becton may be healthy the rest of his career or he may always have nagging injuries. Thomas my blossom like Tyron Smith or this may be his ceiling.

This is what I personally believe. I'm not sure how Mehki will hold up. He is definitely a force, but these issues are already popping up early, and he's at a size that barely makes sense for the human body.
All in all, I don't know how someone can make a judgement on this just yet. Truth be told, as it stands now, I wouldn't care if Thomas was swapped for Wirfs or Beckton -- but I wouldn't really be actively trying to swap Thonas for any of them either.
Are you taking into consideration the players he is playing next to? Jensen is an absolute killer at C. CAPPA and Marpet are above average to good Guards, plus Gronk as a blocking TE is still tough. Thomas has played next to Hernandez who I think stinks, Lemieux who started out strong but has leveled off, and who exactly at TE has helped him block?
This is one those situations where you can’t prove it but you know it’s true. I find it believable that nobody wanted to trade up to get Tua if only because of injury concerns. But, I find it too hard to believe that no one wanted to trade up to get Herbert. This guy is a super talented prospect, the very definition of a franchise QB and that’s a term that is thrown around too loosely. And, more importantly, he came from a big time school and was no secret to anybody. You could say somebody would have traded up to 3 to get that but the Lions are probably more mismanaged than the Giants. Gettleman has never traded down at least in the 1st round and consistently falls in love with his picks. I don’t believe him when he said there were no offers. He may have felt there were no good offers but,I’m convinced the Giants could have traded down, the only question is how far.
but it seems like from your post on the thread about DG and Golladay that you aren't enamored with some of our strategies.
Is this because you'd place blame on DG more than management overall? Or do you think DG blobs together with the Mara's enough that you see one big problem?
If it's the latter, is this something you see getting fixed if we keep losing or could it slip into Dolan territory where we could lose perennially without the Mara's being willing to take a much more hands off approach?
except when the whole team sucked against the Cardinals. He look great against Myles Garrett. No, I wouldn't trade Thomas right now for any of the other 3

He obliterated Aaron Donald on the jets TD to start the 2nd half.
Way too early to tell which one of the 4 OT's will be an All-Pro
I was banging the drum for the Giants to draft Wirfs.
I like what I see the last half of the season from Thomas.Only time will tell.
On a side note, isn't it nice not to see our center knocked back into the backfield anymore on his ass. What a tremendous surprise Nick Gates has been this year.
The only trade offers we received were from the Jags who were interested in Okudah. It seems hard to believe nobody wanted to trade up for Herbert, but I believe that is what happened.
Maybe a more pro-active approach might have elicited some offers. I can't confirm that, but that is my gut feeling about it, so yeah, I was disappointed we didn't trade down.
As for Getty, I think ownership is skeptical just like we are as fans. Our winning streak seemed to have saved his job, but a 4 game losing streak could change all that. I don't think they will decide until the season is over. But I think it's pretty clear that he wants to come back next year and ownership is undecided.
RE: To me the thing that I would 100% want changed

Agree this, which is not a comment on Thomas' play in particular.
because like a few have said, Becton's health could become problematic long term and not to mention he's already missed some time. Thomas has been durable, plus he's shown quite a bit of improvement and will only get better.
but I don't know how you can give up on Thomas so early. He's flashed a lot more than Flowers did his rookie year imo and most importantly he seems like a dude who is intelligent and coachable.
and yeah I think that something like trading up and down in the draft, generating offers for that. It's a skill and it's something you have to prioritize and lay the groundwork for.
IMO the obvious sell if you do a better job of convincing the league you are going to move the pick (which the Giants would have a hard time doing without an outside GM hire) would have been to Miami or San Diego.
Perhaps both Miami and San Diego would have been fine with either Tua or Herbert. But it certainly seemed like Miami had their hearts set on Tua. Laying some good groundwork could have absolutely gotten San Diego or Miami spooked enough to give you an extra 3rd round pick to make sure they got their guy and didn't have someone leapfrog them.
Where I struggle, it's hard to give the Giants the benefit of the doubt at all in this regard when DG has never traded down and talks about not even listening to offers for premium picks.
Thomas-and the entire line-struggled vs. the Cards, but Thomas seemed to bounce back last night. It's absurd to give up on him already. He was playing really well before the Cards game after struggling early.
Thomas has pedigree, work ethic, athleticism, and most important durability on his side. Becton is in his prime right now. Thomas hasn't even scratched the surface.

A more proactive approach? DG made it quite clear that they were open for business. So much stupid here.

Gun to my head, I take Becton. But I'm liking Thomas so far.
Big risks for becton
Exactly. Thomas has been improving and Becton has missed time. Who knows what the future holds. Becton may be healthy the rest of his career or he may always have nagging injuries. Thomas my blossom like Tyron Smith or this may be his ceiling.
So that's a long winded way of saying no.
When Thomas was struggling ....i took a deep look at Becton....Thomas will be a much better pro.....
I believe he is already having shoulder issues.
It's hard to believe we couldn't get a king's ransom for Herbert, but the Lions couldn't and neither could we.

i'm happy with Thomas and everyone here should be too. does anyone even remember who the left tackle was before solder?
As much as Thomas struggled, early ....
If he'd been a Giant (and healthy), I think we'd won - Wk #2 (Bears); Dallas (wk 5); Eagles (wk 7) and Bucs wk #8.
Further, if he'd been a healthy Giant, he might have not made ALL PRO, but certainly a PRO BOWLER.
Maybe a more pro-active approach might have elicited some offers. I can't confirm that, but that is my gut feeling about it, so yeah, I was disappointed we didn't trade down.
