Bradberry?

my bad ... thanks for the correction
Why cut Beal
BillT : 1/6/2021 2:46 pm : link
His replacement value is nearly cap neutral.
Why cut Beal?
Jay on the Island : 1/6/2021 2:47 pm : link
He is on his rookie contract.
And you're stretching our cap position
BillT : 1/6/2021 2:52 pm : link
To think we can sign Leonard Williams, Dalvin Tomlinson, Kyler Fackrel and Alan Robinson. That's 2, $20m per players plus Tomlinson. Not likely.
Forget football

focus on surviving another freaking lousy winter in NJ.
Wait to Yanks to come back
Summer at the shore.
Back to mediocre football back in September
Cutting
AcidTest : 1/6/2021 3:37 pm : link
Beal is a bad idea. As others have noted, he's still on his rookie deal. I'm certainly not promising him a roster spot, but at least bring him to camp to compete.
Robinson
RetroJint : 1/6/2021 4:04 pm : link
wants to be paid like Aaron Rodgers . Don’t think so .
It’s not a bad plan although we need to keep adding OL
cosmicj : 1/6/2021 8:52 pm : link
Talent.
I'm sorry but this just is not possible.
Breeze_94 : 1/6/2021 9:25 pm : link
The Giants current cap space, with Ryan and rollover accounted for is only $9.3m.

Cutting Beal would be dumb since the Giants are thin at CB and he is on a rookie deal. Not to mention the dead cap for that transaction would be almost as much as the savings...

If you cut Solder, Tate, Core, Mayo, Toilolo- you are up to $28.7m in cap space.

Can you maybe squeeze out an extra 5-10mil from restructures? Possibly, but that only kicks the can down the road a couple years and may come back to bite you when you have to re-sign younger players like Saquon, Peppers, Lawrence etc

Lets say after restructures they get to $35mil in space

1.) draft class is 6 players and Giants need to have about $6.2mil slotted for those players, back to $29mil in cap

2.) After including the draft class, Giants have 44 players under contract. Need to sign 9 more players with the remaining $29mil.

LW wants top DL money- anywhere from 15-20mil apy. Robinson will be looking for 18mil plus

Simple math tells me the Giants cannot make that work...
Not bad but
5BowlsSoon : 1/6/2021 9:30 pm : link
1 where do u get the money to pay everyone u want?
2. We need Cody Core. Did u not watch our special teams? Cody is a beast.
3. Im not done on Beal...cheap contract
4. We might afford Corey Davis

I’ll stop there

Beal has basically stolen money from the team for the last three years for doing next to nothing
MY Beal Theory
Grizz99 : 1/7/2021 1:20 am : link
Only it's not supported by any hard facts, so call it "a hope" instead of a theory.
Beal seems smart, dedicated and a good guy. When he got hurt in his rookie year he worked as an "almost" scout and helped prepare the defense. The reports on his knowledge and work ethic were high.
That's the background, here's the theory/hope. He's been plagued with shoulder problems. I'm hoping he used the Covid as an excuse to take the year off and strengthen himself in general and the shoulders in particular.
He's going to come back next year and be the second corner we so desperately need.
Again, all speculation and unreasonable reaching.
Kind of Fruitless Discussion

Historically, teams get done what they have to do / want to do within the cap. How many years have teams been in "cap hell", yet somehow execute on their plans? I would leave it to the cap experts within the organization to figure out what has to be done and who has to be kept / released. I think it's all a matter of what the team perceives as a player's value relative to cost and there's always a way to retain players deemed to be "worth it". There has to be a level of maneuverability beyond what the public numbers would indicate. Maybe some enjoy the numbers aspect of football, but I prefer results on the field.
It..

doesn't matter if Beal has "stolen money" so far. Cutting him in the offseason makes no sense. If he comes to camp and gets injured again or is ineffective, you can release him then when you presumably have a replacement already there - but a preemptive cut him isn't a positive move.
no, a pre-emptive cut doesn't make sense
Greg from LI : 1/7/2021 8:27 am : link
But they'd be foolish to rely on Beal for anything. Six games in three years, and he was nothing special in those six games.

Hence why I said he's stolen money and provided next to nothing for it so far
This plan is beat to me.

No way am I extending Zeitler and with this receiving class, we dont need one of the top guys on the market. Someone last night mentioned Curtis Samuel as a cheaper option at WR and I love the idea of him, plus drafting a WR. I still think taking another O lineman in the 1st is in play...a guy like Leatherwood can play either Tackle or Guard and serve as insurance for Thomas and Peart. Then take the next best WR available.

Re-signing LW is a must for me. DT wont come cheap, but I would like him back too. We generated enough pass rush with our current squad where we can see what more Cam Brown and a hopefully healthy Carter can bring. No to cutting Beal...he was showing ability and as was mentioned is still cheap.

Cutting Beal isn't that crazy
DavidinBMNY : 1/7/2021 9:25 pm : link
Financially, it makes sense to keep him. He had a whole year off to recover from injuries, is really young, and his contract tolls so they have another 2 years of a young CB.

What is unknown is what Beal did this off-season. Did he use the time wisely or just take a break. Opting out is a very personal choice, and anyone who does choose so is in their right. Beal, who really could have capitalized knowing the Baker situation into a starting role ahead of Ballentine, opted to not take that chance. So in the back of my mind, I'm more curious to the private reasons he choose to opt out. Solder basically had to opt out given his health and his family's health concerns. Beal - I have no idea.

If they are creative they can. Based upon those cuts they will have well over $100M free in 2022 and beyond.
Beal ... June 1 cut ...
charles355 : 1/12/2021 11:55 am : link
Sam Beal's experiment is the worst of Gettleman decision/move. I hate the supplemental draft. The guys was always injured and his decision to not play this year with the chance he has in front of him was the nail in the coffin for me. I can understand Nate Solder with his son. The worst part of the covid for the NYG is the fact that Solder's contract was delayed.

if we look closely at Martinez and Bradberry contracts, we can easily see that we can restructure both of them and save lots of space next year. In 2022, we will have more cap space with lesser free agents to re-sign (LW and DT, Fackrell, etc....

Honestly, it's viable to re-sign both Tomlinson and Williams. We can ever get a WR but that's about it.

If we decide to let Dalvin Tomlinson leaves, we will have the option to get maybe 1-2 more players.
