Name a QB who threw a harder fastball than Josh Allen.

cpgiants : 1/9/2021 4:34 pm
The ball seems to leave his hand and fingers as quick as Marino but hes a harder thrower.

Elway, Favre, Jeff George were some of the higher velocity guys Ive seen but I dont know.

This guy throws it different man.

Sonny Jurgenson..
Big Blue '56 : 1/9/2021 5:05 pm : link
Also, in his early years, Norm Snead had a helluva arm
Marino
George from PA : 1/9/2021 5:11 pm : link
.....
Steve Bartkowski
JINTin Adirondacks : 1/9/2021 5:13 pm : link
Could wing it as well
Terry Bradshaw
JerseyCityJoe : 1/9/2021 5:14 pm : link
He broke more than his fair share of fingers trying to catch his fastballs.
In other words,

Sonny Jurgenson
JerseyCityJoe : 1/9/2021 5:19 pm : link
IMHO Maybe the most fearless QB to play the game.
I remember
Mark from Jersey : 1/9/2021 5:33 pm : link
Kerry Collins having quite the arm.
Stafford
GoDeep13 : 1/9/2021 5:34 pm : link
Has a fricken rocket and it’s rarely recognized.
Collins threw it hard
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 1/9/2021 5:38 pm : link
The problem is he threw it just as hard on a three yard pass as a 30 yard pass. Which was a problem.

Stafford might be the most underrated player in the league.
Elway and Bradshaw

with best guns I have seen.
Elway

No question.

Bradshaw had a nice arm but seriously it wasn't better than Marino, Mahomes, Rodgers, Allen or Stafford

well.. not in their class, I would say.
Mahommes, Elway, Jeff George, Marino, and others

Allen has a really good arm, but it is not some kind of legendary thing. Elway was the best arm IMO

Different game. Stop changing the question.

Simple correct answer- Bradshaw threw a harder fastball than Allen. Elway too.

No he didn't. I watched his whole career. Excellent arm on that guy but no way did he throw a fastball like Allen or Elway, or Rodgers, or Mahomes or Herbert for that matter.

That's a deep cut, but yeah, Jurgensen really threw hard. And of course was a fine ancestor to our very own DJ in the rich history of Duke QB's.
i will say

Bradshaw might have had the best arm of that era and it got much better. He was a totally different QB 78-79 than he was 74-75. His arm got a lot better.

Ok, fine, my opinion stays same.
Rhett Bomar , draft class 2009, could throw a ball through a brick
gtt350 : 1/9/2021 7:19 pm : link
wall.
never saw a harder thrower
Brett Favre

Can’t believe he hasn’t been said
I’ll second and third for Bert Jones he threw them tight and

on a rope.
No one in the game right now
nyballa0891 : 1/9/2021 8:29 pm : link
Has an arm like Josh Allen. The zip on his throws is ridiculous and no mahomes is not in the same class. With that said, just because you have an insane arm that does not make you the better qb..but talking pure arm strength?I think Josh Allen is clearly above all others in the league right now.

Jeff George right up there with him. Kerry Collins had a cannon. Doug Williams, Favre.

He was a terrible QB, but Kyle Boller had a cannon.
RE: It's a good release but not Marino fast lol. Rodgers is faster..

Mahomes is faster, throws harder and more accurately. Think Baker throws harder too but is terribly inaccurate. He's good but its early.

Baker is laughably wrong
This isn't perfect but he's #1
You'reMyBoyBlue!! : 1/10/2021 1:59 am : link
He's in whatever elite all-time arm strength category you want to come up with

Elway
Mahomes
Marino
Favre
George
Etc

And he's near the top

Marino
David B. : 1/10/2021 9:42 am : link
And yeah, Elway, Bert Jones and a lot of the guys mentioned here.

And not for nothing, Simms had a really strong arm, too.
Good call there as I forgot
LBH15 : 1/10/2021 9:46 am : link
about Bert Jones. He could rifle it in there with the best of them.

You can easily look up throwing speed from the combines.
Jim in Hoboken : 1/10/2021 11:41 am : link
Every year the top speed is 59 mph or less, Allen threw 62. Mahomes was 55, Mayfield threw a 60 surprisingly. Herbert was only 55, our Jones 54.

Rodgers is the best pure passer I've ever seen. He's also a genius scanning the field and making good decisions. I would give my left nut to have him sniffing Gates' balls and ass on Sunday's.

Elway
Jim in Fairfax : 1/10/2021 1:21 pm : link
I was in the stands for Super Bowl XXI sitting on the Giants 30 yard line near the field. Late in the 2nd quarter. Elway rolls out away from our sideline, and from the Broncos 30 yard line throws a frozen rope to the opposite sideline to the Giants 30 right in front of us. In a stadium of 100,000 fans, we heard the WHAP as the ball hit his hands. Whole section went - whoa!

40 yards downfield throwing all the way across the field. Had to be close to 60 yards on the fly.

You can see the play @ the 47:00 mark in the game video:

You wouldn't like To have Rodgers? Who have you seen better? Marino? Otherwise no one comes close.
Kent Graham?

Doug Williams

I remember a carton in a way old SI of one of his receivers’ hands exploding.
Kent Graham is another guy like Kyle Boller
Greg from LI : 1/10/2021 10:57 pm : link
Not good, but he did have a big arm.

Mike Cherry supposedly had a cannon.

The term genius should not be applied to people that throw balls for a living.

It's also best to limit references to buttholes and genitalia when professing your fondness for a football player.

My point was less about Rodgers and more that your post was way over the top and bordering on disturbing.

It was also a joke.

Bert Jones was going to be my choice. before the shoulder injury, he had an absolute cannon. Definitely Elway, I remember Bronco WR's would show reporters the X's on their chests from passes Elway threw. And who can forget Lester Hayes infamous statement from, I believe, Elway's rookie year, something along the lines of "we covered them pretty good, but what can you do when you got Goose Gossage up there throwing fastballs" (look up Goose Gossage, kids!).

And I wouldn't forget to mention Mahomes. He throws with a lot of touch, but he can really bring it when he needs to. One under the radar is Baker Mayfield, he can bring the heat.

I don't know, Allen's arm talent is pretty special. I saw him roll out to his right and throw a 70 yd pass across the field. I don't know if I'd ever seen that before.
I think Ryan Mallett
Jim in Forest Hills : 1/11/2021 12:31 pm : link
had one of those all world arms. Wasn't a great QB but could really spin it.
