Kwity Paye

Hawkman : 1/10/2021 6:51 am
Kwity Paye will have a terrific combine. If you aren’t familiar with Kwity watch the ESPN GameDay special on him. He is from Bishop Hendricken HS in Warwick RI where I have been involved with the football program for 50 years and my son was his head coach and my son and I have been involved with his career at Michigan as well as assisting him during this draft process. He has all the intangibles, is as fine a young man as you can find, and has an incredible work ethic. I am a Giants fan for 55 years and I am very excited about this draft as a Giants fan and as being a part of Kwity’s team during this fascinating journey. If you know Kwity it is very hard not to admire him and to root for his success. While our GMEN have needs at WR and Edge and TE , it would be nice to have someone coming off the edge pressuring QB’s. I’ll keep all my fellow Giant fans posted along the way.
Go GMEN

Michigan defense was awful the last 2 years. The opposing QB had time to destroy the defense with long downfield throws. Paye had 2 sacks in 6 games this year.He may be a nice man but his play did not make him (in my opinion) worthy of a # 11 pick in the draft.
By the way

Mlive had details of Coach Harbaugh's new contract. His salary was cut from 7-8 million/year to 4 million per year. There are large incentives for winning the big 10 East division, big 10 championship and new years day bowl appearances.THERE WAS NO MENTION OF INCENTIVES FOR GRADUATION RATES OR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF PLAYERS. Tells you all you need to know about higher education in America.

just dont see the fascination with this guy, now jaelon philips (hope i spelled correctly) of miami is a guy we should target imo.
I don't know anything about him

but I am thinking that a Joe Judge player must have a lot of versatility to their game. Does he have that?

Kwity Paye = Oliver Vernon. He generates pressure and gets close to a lot of sacks (thus making him an analytics superstar) but he doesn't finish plays with sacks.
Thanks for the info Hawkman

Interesting to have someone as involved as you are with a projected 1st round pick. Can you see him playing OLB. Seems that’s what we need unless we can’t sign one of our starting DLs
This thread made me go back and check out Rashan Gary

and his path in the NFL with Green Bay.

Picked 12 overall in 2019 - 26 tackles in 2 years. Bust

How does that tell you about higher education in America other than our feeder system for the pros is instrinsically tied to it because of money and tradition? Who gives a fuck about graduation rates or academic performance? Most these guys are looking to play pro. They want to put in the minimum effort to get their degree that’s their decision. And if you know anything about it professors are very lenient on football players grades because they know how demanding it is. You at least try you are walking out with a C.
Don’t overthink this

WR or TE in round one. Jones needs legit playmates.
graduation rates

At a school like Michigan maybe 5% of the players will earn a living playing in the NFL. Many of the other players come to that college without academic records that would predict success there. Then they have to spend hours each day at practice and in the weight room. The coaching staff should have a solid program to help the students graduate with the skills they will need to earn a living.

Is the only Michigan player I’m interested in.

Well why is that onus on the school? If the guys show up to class and put in bare minimum effort, they pass.
And all the big schools have tutorship programs for athletes

Looks the part but the production lags.

Curious to see where Sy falls on this guy...

I’m sticking with Azeez Ojulari has the best edge prospect in this draft.
No.

I teach in West Warwick and my former VP is the DCoordinator at Bishop Hendricken. He has been telling me for years what a great kid Kwity is. I saw him take a toss sweep 80 yards to the house at Portmouth RI, a good team, and I said to myself "How can a 255 lb. kid be the fastest player on the field?" I also heard his flexibility is off the charts, similar to Justin Tuck's, In fact, that is a comparison Sy_56 made on twitter. I am no expert, but I was an assistant at Tiverton High ( I worked with the freshmen) so it not like I am without some knowledge. He is a rare athlete. When I was helping with our local Pop Warner teams the coaching staff at Hendricken had me go to one of their coaching clinics and it was really worthwhile. Great group, it was cool to talk to the area DII and DIII coaches. Some of the kids I know form my teaching days in Fall River and Tiverton play for those teams.

Funny part is, my friend that coaches with your son is a huge Cowboy fan and I have been teasing him about the chances of Kwity being drafted by the Giants. From now on I think I'll email him the links to all those mock drafts that have Kwity ending up with Big Blue. Glad to know you are part of the BBI crew....Stay safe and healthy!
It depends on what happens with Williams and Tomlinson

Paye's measurables suggest he would be a 5-Technique in Giants defense and not an ER/OLB. Not sure the need is there if the DL remains intact.

LOL. I actually like the name. Rolls off tongue a bit. I just am not sold on the ceiling and value there with him.
I've seen Paye mocked as high as #4 so

someone likes him.

Never seen him play myself.

Agree. I’m not sold on his transition as a consistent and impact ER on NFL level either. He may be more versatile and depth quality than high impact and “take over” talent.

I agree with this. I like Paye a lot, but he’s probably not the best fit with our scheme/personnel. As for his production at Mich, I think he was misused, moving him all over the line, and he ended up pass rushing from the interior a lot.
Versatility
Hawkman : 1/10/2021 12:48 pm : link
In the Michigan D Kwity played 3,5,7, and 9 Tech...Don Brown said he is the most fundamentally sound spread/run defender he has ever coached....he is very versatile...when many decided to sit it out this year Kwity decided to play....had many pressures and was constantly doubled or chipped once Hutchinson was hurt...in addition he played dinged up this season.....we certainly need a playmaker at WR ....should we go D I think Kwity could be in play....his versatility will be attractive to Judge and Gettleman I suspect

Breeze_94 : 1/10/2021 11:53 pm : link
part of me sees the Bud Dupree upside in him- huge guy with freak athleticism. But he doesn't have much college production. There are going to be a lot better prospects avail at 11.
I think Gettleman

Personally scouted this kid in a game against Rutgers this year. I don’t know much about him, but I think he’s definitely in play at 11 for us.
Boylhart loves both Rousseau and Paye

Gregory plays defensive end like a defensive tackle playing in a 2-gap system, waiting patiently for the running back to try to slip by him in a gap or for the QB to step up in the pocket and then he sheds his block and makes a sack. Although he changes the line of scrimmage in his favor as a defensive end on almost every snap, his overall play is more calculating instead of being explosive. Greg has a unique style of play and the team that selects him is going to have to explore that uniqueness and find out how it fits into their team structure on defense. When they do I suspect Gregory to be the same impactful player that Cameron Jordan has been for his team because like Cameron, Gregory is a complete defensive lineman who can play in any style of defense and impact.

Kwity just has to stop thinking so much when defending against the run. This will allow him to be more explosive off the line and cause defenders to make mistakes that he can take advantage of. Right now, he is being handled because he lacks confidence in that part of his game. As soon as Kwity gets with a linebacker who has his back in the running game and allows Kwity to just fly into the backfield and make plays, Kwity can become as destructive a defensive lineman as Hall of Fame Buffalo Bills Defensive lineman, Bruce Smith.
Paye profile

What concerns me is that neither gets high marks for explosiveness. Explosiveness is the missing ingredient in the Giants defensive front seven. If they can't get that from the 11th slot in the draft then maybe they should be looking at other positions with that pick.
