Did Chase Young play last night?

DannyDimes8 : 1/10/2021 8:41 am
I heard his big mouth all week but when I watched the game not sure I saw him out there outside of celebrating his teammates Touchdown
I’m sure he’ll make me eat my words in the future but last night he was a complete no show

He had 2 pressures
JoeyBigBlue : 1/10/2021 8:46 am : link
In like 40 pass rush attempts. The WFT Twitter will make it seem like he set the world on fire.
He was double teamed

He is going to be a great football player

For a long time

Last night wasn’t his night.

They were blocking him with a TE on some plays.

The camera loves him. That’s for sure, even when he was injured and not playing at the end of the game they kept showing him.

No .. he was 1 on 1 most of the time and did squat ... hes fast and runs upfield like Osi did and takes himself out of most plays. Yeah, he’s high energy and probably a good teammate, but I don’t see a star... mostly hype right now.

LMAO.... Dude stop lying. Donovan Smith handled him 1 on 1 all game. They even had Gronk on him 1 on 1.
No question the hype exceeds his production

7.5 sacks and 44 tackles is a good for a rookie but it’s not like something unheard of. Just sounds like the current media narrative like “HOF QB Philip Rivers” that made the rounds recently.
He’s a good player

He wasn't doubled very much, if at all. Donovan Smith did a good job on him.

But he had a very strong rookie year and seemingly looks to be a great teammate. His play helped win the division as much as anyone's on that team.

BBI is just a strange place from time to time.

Young is going to be fantastic. But I didn’t see him getting double teamed last night much at all. In fact, as the game was unfolding I was kind of surprised at how the Bucs were able to block him with one guy. After reading your post about him being double teamed I just checked out a bunch of video from the game. These were all highlights so it doesn’t tell the entire story of course, but of the 20 or so plays I watched I didn’t see him doubled one single time. I’m not saying he wasn’t at all. I’m sure there were some plays he was doubled throughout the game. But I don’t think it was anywhere near as often as you seem to think.

I think this thread is kind of dumb anyways, as I said I think Young is going to be a force down the road. I just disagree a bit about him being doubled last night.

I swear to God people fall in love with someone at draft or pissed at a meaningless win and their eyes show them a different reality than what happens on the tape so to speak.

I still maintain
section125 : 1/10/2021 9:15 am : link
that for a team with four first round draft choices along the DLine, they do not do much. 3 sacks but 381 yards passing.

Chase Young will be a very good player. Like most rookies he needs some time in the weight room and to learn some better techniques. I would not poo-poo him.

Yeah I think he’s going to be very good although I’m not sure the hype and coverage he got last not is going to be a little much for a very good but not elite football player. They were acting like he’s the second coming.

What I don’t understand is how someone makes a statement like that where it isn’t even defensible. Guy had 1 v 1 matchups all night against an offense that gets the ball down the field. Him and Sweat play better and they may have won.

It is very good for a rookie though. I mean If you get more then 5 sacks out of a rookie it's pretty promising. Doesn't mean squat because that can regress, but I'd take it.

7.5 sacks all year

None in playoffs

Give me my Leonard Williams any day of the week.
Give credit to Donovan Smith...
bw in dc : 1/10/2021 9:22 am : link
He is an underrated LT who was up for the task last night. Did a very nice job keeping Young wide so Brady had a pocket to step into. And Young kept taking the cheese.

Young is a great talent. He didn’t play special last night. And needs to keep expanding his repertoire.

But the other team’s players get paid, too. And the Bucs schemed it up nicely last night.

Payne, btw, played very well.

1) he was rarely if ever doubled
2) he had a very good rookie year
3) he isn’t an all world generational talent like he was touted but he’s very good
4) his comp to me is a JPP type if you subtract the 2011 season and give him back his hand.
5) he isn’t the best pass rusher on his team that goes to Montez sweat who was getting the chips and the tight end to his side.
6) Danny Dimes the poster is extremely insecure and I pray for his personal life.

He ran his flap since last weekend and didn't do SHIT last night. There is no problem with BBI calling him out for that. Reminds me a little of JPP - running his flap and not coming through.

No one is saying he is not a good player, just calling him out - deservedly so.

But, of course, the typical BBI posters have to get on their high horse and try to make this into something its not.

Agree. I didn’t like the boasting and then play small later on. Good for him eating humble pie today.

I don’t care about CY anyhow....we had no chance of drafting him so why should I care now? What I didn’t like was how the announcers were just raving about how special he is. Well, 7.5 sacks doesn’t sound special to me. And like I said, I’d much rather have big Leonard Williams. Besides his 10.5 sacks, he is a run defense monster. I’m not sure you could say that about CY yet.
Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane
arniefez : 1/10/2021 10:31 am : link
I've watched this guy all year. He is not doubled teamed often if at all. That's bullshit.

His only "move" is to try to run around the OT to the outside and 98% of the time he's easily pushed past the pocket. He's dangerous when they twist him and he has a clean lane because he's fast and strong as hell. He has freak physical talents.

But he rarely if ever beats the OL in front of him. On running plays he's best off the ball when he tries which isn't all the time. He gives up on plays often. If they run right at him he gets blown up. He has no technique because until now he never had to.

We'll see where he goes from here but if this is what he is it's like having the defensive version of Barkley. He'll hit home runs but he's going to bat .220 and strike out 200 times.

Washington’s front four isn’t good enough to put pressure on Brady especially up the middle. Teams still haven’t learned from the Giants two SB wins that when you put enough pressure up the middle on Brady he becomes little Tommy, and is nowhere’s near effective. Only rushing four, and dropping back seven does not work especially with the number of weapons Brady has now.

He did miss two games, so 7.5 in 14 games. The year before, Bosa had 9 in 16 games, and Josh Allen had 10. So if he plays two more games he probably gets to 8.5 or 9 sacks. How many would say Bosa and Allen didn’t have good rookie years?

The hate is strong on here! 7.5 sacks for a rookie is not considered a decent year? He will need to add strength as most rookies on the line need to do, but he showed well in the run defense with the ability to use his speed at times.

Time will only tell with him. Just like AT another year of seasoning should bode well for their performance in year 2.

but it also shows that edge rushers can be neutralized. I’m looking forward to see what Khalil Mack does tonight - if he has a similar game I’m pretty much convinced that we should pidgeonhole ourselves into and edge at 11 because they really can be game planned against unless you luck out with some other worldly player.

Young was also banged up early in the year due to a groin injury.

He had a few impressive games that I saw, but his games against NYG and his game last night were a little disappointing.

It was a good rookie year, but I get why people feel like he didn't live up to the considerable hype yet.

To fans an edge rusher is key to the giants success. We can generate pressures and it appears our strength is interior defense and secondary. If we get a CB3 which is a bigger need than edge our defense is that much better. Offensive line is still a bigger need than edge. WR1 bigger need the edge. Fans obsess over edge guys cause of the sacks and the fact they can see them on the tv broadcast every play so it’s an easy position to follow and observe. Bigger needs for us are clearly defined. OT, CB2, WR1, WR2, TE....all bigger needs than edge
CB2 not CB3

Better for the Giants in the long run as Washington doesn’t have a viable QB going forward. Tampa will also get bounced if they play defense like that next week.

Well it’s true; whenever the Giants have done well it’s because they have a strong presence at edge and a good interior defense. But it seems like people are satisfied with just the interior.

I don’t know about you, I was flat-out embarrassed watching the quarterbacks during our three-game skid in December, having so much time to throw the ball because the DL was playing contain.
