If I’m the Eagles owner, I part ways with Pederson, trade Wentz for basically the best offer, take a QB at 6 and hire a young offensive coach.
I wonder if he wasn't pressured by his owners to lose that game

Whispers about the Jets are starting.

Joe Douglas obviously worked in Philly. That would spice up the local rivalry.
If Lurie pressured him not to win.....he won't fire him
GiantBlue : 1/10/2021 11:57 am : link
But it is going to be a long climb up out of the hole for Pederson to get the veteran's respect back.

They can probably find a cap-rich team to take a flyer on Wentz as long as they got a sweetener such as in the Osweiller trade several years ago.

However, that OL is going to be difficult to fix in one off-season...especially if Kelce retires.

Totally agree with this. How can you trot Pederson out there next season at this point? I mean his players questioned his motives after the game. He’s lost the locker room.
Inept Year
BradberryGlue : 1/10/2021 12:02 pm : link
but they had a million injuries. Both Pedersen and Wentz coached and played like that had a concussion this year. That team was never right after the blitzkrieg the Skins gave them in Week 1. Throwaway season for the entire division I don’t think they should fire him.

I’ve wondered the same. Pressure him to throw the game, let it blow over for a couple weeks, then scapegoat him. I have a feeling they want to move on anyway, and that all feels like SOP for that shady org
My dream is that
cjac : 1/10/2021 12:18 pm : link
The Giants have a historic draft this year with players that help us dominate the division for a decade. And all we talk about is how the Eagles helped us by throwing that game.
There was an article yesterday that hinted
jvm52106 : 1/10/2021 12:20 pm : link
a team looking for a coach could be interested in a coach of another team. In fact the article really hinted that there were rumors of said team looking into the idea of "trading" for a HC currently employed.

That could pave the way for Eric Biennemy to become the Eagles HC.

Fuck him

his insecurity...

is probably why he goes for it on 4th down all the time.
This sounds like total bullshit that the Eagles put out there
Zeke's Alibi : 1/10/2021 2:17 pm : link
so they don’t get their asses handed to them at owners meeting over summer. I mean it’s fucking Mort. He’s pretty much poster child for teams using as a mouthpiece. Him and King
If Pederson still isn't safe, it's hard to understand
BlackLight : 1/10/2021 2:20 pm : link
how people can still believe Eagles ownership pressured him to lose that last game.

We wouldn't be having this conversation if that were true.

See post above. Is this coming from Shraeger or Glazer? No. And when it’s not you have to question the source. Everyone else gets used as mouthpieces for teams and how they stay employed. After those two Schefter and Rappoport are 50/50.

That cap hit for Carson is hard pill to swallow! Absent that, then that part of the equation is not difficult.
Seems like it is heading
Lines of Scrimmage : 1/10/2021 2:55 pm : link
to a parting and he may even want out. Lots of older players breaking down and Wentz is not what people thought he was without a very good team around him which Foles proved. t did not hurt playing in a very weak NFC East, a even weaker playoff field and probably the worst of the Patriots SB teams.

The one who seems to escape the criticism is Roseman who has had quite a few subpar drafts. The genius to some on BBI certainly relied on the players that Reid and Kelly left him imo. In Reid's case it was the QB he developed (Foles) and the HC he developed (Pederson) that helped get that trophy.
F'd up situation if true
SLIM_ : 1/10/2021 2:58 pm : link
So Pederson doesn't have the confidence in the owners but throws the game at their behest. If he gets fired, he can't tell anyone that the team told him to throw the game. He would never get a job again if he admits that.

If he did on his own, that is really balsy.

Eagles losing assitant coaches

Schwartz, who announced his decision to take some time off from coaching, isn’t the only assistant the Eagles have to replace. Senior offensive coaches Rich Scangarello and Marty Mornhinweg have left after their one-year contracts expired. Linebackers coach Ken Flajole is also departing and is expected to retire.

Some of the departures were mutually agreed upon, and more coaching exits could follow, with some leaving on their own accord, per league sources.

Eagles beat reporters
Vin_Cuccs : 1/10/2021 3:29 pm : link
Are trying to spin this in a good way… apparently some of them are convinced that the Eagles can get a draft pick in return for trading Pederson.

Apparently these writers think that the Jets are a potential landing place because of the Joe Douglas connection, and that the Eagles will receive handsome draft pick compensation in return.

It sure seems like things are falling apart in Philadelphia, and I for one, I’m really upset by this. It’s a shame. Just a real damn shame.

It’s almost like quitting on the season doesn’t sit well. Who would have thought!

just because an owner told him to do that, it probably does not absolve him of guilt
Pederson is the anti Bill B

Philly lost a lot of their offensive coaches who did most of the heavy lifting

Right place right time coach. I hope they keep him. Will better for the Giants as Wentz hates him and Hurts now has to wonder if he can trust him.

They aren't trading or cutting Wentz.

Quote:
If Wentz is cut prior to June 1st, the Eagles would not only take on the full $59.2 million dead cap charge, they would also lose a whopping $24.5 million in cap space. That’s $83.7 million that the Eagles wouldn’t have access to for a pivotal 2021 season. A release that occurs after June 1 would spread out the dead cap charges over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, a hefty $49.7 million in 2021 and $24.5 million in 2022. Not only would the dead cap charges take a cleaver to the Eagles cap space, they would also lose $15 million in cap space for the 2021 season.
Sorry, missed some and forgot to attribute
Bramton1 : 1/10/2021 5:11 pm : link
Quote:
Now, trading Wentz is more feasible, but at this point it would have to be a similar trade to the one the Cleveland Browns executed for Brock Osweiler in 2017. Houston had to give the Browns a second round pick to take on Osweiler’s egregiously awful contract (that was a catastrophe the moment that it was signed.) It was worth it for the Texans to give away a premium pick to get rid of Osweilier, especially with Deshaun Watson ready to take over.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, trading Wentz won’t really offer much relief. If the Eagles trade Wentz prior to June 1, they will still get hit with a $33.8 million dead cap charge with negligible cap savings to counteract that.

A trade that occurs after June 1 is really the only way for the Eagles to move on from Wentz before the start of the 2021 season. The Eagles would still get hit with a $9.2 million dead cap charge for the 2021 season and be rewarded with $25.4 million in cap savings. They would then incur a $24.5 million dead cap charge in 2022.

Yeah that’s why I called it a dream instead of saying “I hope that”
