In Game Stadium Experience

fanoftheteam : 1/10/2021 12:28 pm
With no fans in the stadium you almost cant help but to hear all the jingles/songs/stadium theatre stuff in between EVERY (god damn) play during these games.

Was watching some classic Giants games on youtube where the atmosphere in a way created itself and all it took was say Bob Sheppard to say 3rd down and everyone made some noise pending the situation.

I for one feel the atmosphere in Stadiums including ours became so dumbed down. Do we really need a song in between every play and the ribbon boards flashing with text to keep us entertained for 35 seconds? The guy that screams its 3rd down every time? It seems so collegy/gimmicky. Doesnt it take away from the authenticity of the atmosphere? Its interesting seeing the growth of soccer in the US where this stuff doesnt exist and the crowd creates their own culture versus the likes of say this direction or what we see in the NBA.

Just curious of the boards thoughts especially those who held tickets throughout the years.

I miss old Giants Stadium when you'd be walking out after a win and they'd blast the "Taking Care of Business! Everyday!" song.
It’s like that in all major sports.

Personally, I don’t see the need for sensory bombardment during every break in play, but I don’t see it changing anytime soon. They’re catering to the more casual fans less engaged in the actual game. They know the diehards are coming anyway.
Are live soccer games

Really increasing in popularity?

I’d rather sit alone in a cold dark room with no furniture for 3 hours.

Agreed and it's not just football...

I went to MSG last March (a week before the big shut down) and saw a Ranger's game live for the first time in many years.

OMG, it was ridiculous...I felt like I was in a ping ball machine.

And that's not to mention the commercials blasting during every time-out. It was happening at Giant's games at the old stadium when I said "no thank you" to the season tickets that had been in my family for 40 years because greedy Mara went to PSL's.

I mean, isn't that why you go to games to begin with? To get away from the commercials and nonsense on television?

Rant over....
the "it's third dowwnnn" guy...

I've been to a couple of Red Bullls games and they were a ton of fun. It's a great atmosphere and my boys were completely entertained by the game and the crowd.

God Yes. This! I can’t stand that asshole.
The only entertaining thing

about the “it’s third dowwwwnnnnn” guy is the reaction my 81-year old father (of Yankee Stadium and Yale Bowl days) has when he hears it.
It's awful

Giants Stadium and the Garden both do and it sucks. They bombard you with constant music until the last second before play starts. The "Its THIRRRRRD Down" announcement is one of the worst thing I have ever heard in sports. I hate it
I've been to a bunch of games
BH28 : 1/10/2021 7:14 pm : link
And I never remember there being this much jingles/music. Usually it was third downs or commercial breaks.

Without fans, it sounds like an NBA game with music every single play. Annoying as all hell and I hope it goes away when fans come back.
I kinda want to send the team a letter

The logic chain of bad choices everywhere.
Completely agree

I love going to the game to see more than you see on tv, but I hate all the extra bs they've brought in over the past few years.
I get why..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/10/2021 11:23 pm : link
they do it though.

Last Panthers game I went to, people were on their phones most of the time, taking selfies, or talking to friends without even paying attention to the game.

I went to a baseball game during the whole Pokemon phenomenon, and more people in my section were scanning the field and stands for Pokemon than they were at paying attention to the game
I don't get people
Greg from LI : 1/10/2021 11:29 pm : link
Why would you pay to attend a game just to do the same damned thing you do all the time for free?
Id have to imagine declining economics

Might bring the game back to the working class? Or it could swing farther the other way. But I think football swung too far one way and will work its way back.

I used to love going to games. I'd pick a city to travel to and attend a Giants' away game. I also live only 100 miles from Charlotte so when the Giants came to NC I was there. Not any more. It has gotten just too darned expensive. If they want to bring back the working class they need to make it affordable so he doesn't spend a week's paycheck to watch a football game.
