NFT: covid vaccine

My cop friends began getting the shots last week or are scheduled within the next week. My parents are over 70 and are on a list, elderly will be next up. I know a lot of people in medicine that are getting their fam vaccinated outside the line so I’m sure a % of doses are being misappropriated all over.

February 2.

In Phase 2. My wife is 1B because she's a teacher. I have no idea when we will actually be able to get it. Me in Phase 2 probably means when it's being given at CVS and Walgreens and stuff.

Family is in healthcare administration and do not see this happening at all. It’s limited distribution sites. Most healthcare workers would be appalled at the thought of this given what they have went through.

she signed up the other day. My sister signed up last week and got hers yesterday. Both of them are teachers.

A nursing home down in FL just got busted for doing this. They were taking the elderly patients' vaccines and people on the board of directors, etc. were taking them for themselves.

I found out yesterday I'm deemed 'essential'. Tell my wife that, Haha. Anyways, getting my first shot Thursday & second shot on February 11th. STICK IT INTO MY VEINS BABY!

hopefully the beginning of the end of this nightmare.

I hate hearing all these stories of bureaucratic screw ups, vaccines being thrown out, overregulation... let's get these damn things into peoples arms pronto!

the other day had a guy who called his local pharmacy asking if they would call him if they were ever in danger of throwing out vaccines on the brink of reaching expiration. They called him back within a few days and he got the vax - much earlier than he likely would've otherwise. This was in DC - not sure if would work in other jurisdictions.

Agreed. I'm hoping we're back to a semblance of normalcy by April or May. Hope springs eternal. I can't tell you how I'm looking forward to plopping down on a bar stool & watching live sports with people in the stands.

I'm in NJ too and signed up for phase 2. I assume it'll be April at the earliest before vaccines are available for Phase 2.

Phase 1C seems to include 65 years old and older now (I just got in for March) as well. If you're over 65, or just for grins, you should check the link below to see if you are eligible

You may get the "spinning wheel of death" as the website was getting pounded with requests. It took 20 minutes to resolve for me, and that was before the news apparently got out. Just
be patient ;)

I would recommend working with your PCP if they belong to a large group. They will be able to navigate the process better than the government sites.

But personally this rollout has been all wrong. Just get it to everyone who wants it as fast as possible. The qualifiers and rankings are just mucking it all up...

I won't be 65 until May. I have a golf trip to Ireland leaving end of May and it was cancelled last year. Pretty much resigned that I may miss it.

Hope Astra-Zeneca gets its act together so there a three vaccines. Maybe other MFGs will be allowed to produce the vaccines on license so more are produced.

Problem is there's so many in 1C, there's going to be availability and "outages" in some cases next few months with so many states just going to a mass site and distributed model at same time system.

Been told not to expect to be called or given appointment offerings until March - maybe early April.

Logistics will still be a problem. Releasing more and more just adds more and more logistical demand/coordination that is already being tapped by testing, care, other gov't and healthcare administration needs.

People need to be patient. There's 7.8 plus billion people in the world that need this (know some won't want or get it), but that's the demand side at play. Domestic production and logistics is running 24/7. There's going to be issues, outages, other bureacracy and delays for months.

In Florida CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Publix are all in the pipeline for distribution along with the county health departments. So I think the actual vaccination process will be very quick.
When I got my Shingrix the pharmacist says CVS will likely hire people that will be doing only vaccinations so it should be fairly smooth.

The DOH website was a bit slow last night due to all the traffic. But it was a fairly easy process signing up. I’m surprised I got an appointment so soon.

If that’s a response to the article, I’m not sure it is one. Nobody here appreciates research labs more than me, I can guarantee you that. And nobody here knows or respects what they’ve done to advance the COVID response more than me. But, valuable research need not be rewarded by limited vaccine. There’s chaos because protocols and priorities are not being clearly defined or clearly followed.

Was told by someone I know who works in a capital district hospital that the vaccine was offered up to everyone who works there. She got hers, even though she has nothing to do with covid patients. I get that a hospital, overall, is a higher risk area than your average office setting, but it goes to show that 'front line' is a rather gray area. This sort of tale could be construed as jumping the line/cronyism depending on how it is spun.

Not sure which hospital you mean but the one across the street from me is a repository and is giving it out freely to employees from what I understand. This hospital has a med school and grad school component and a friend who is a professor in the grad school (teaches and does (non-COVID research) got vaccinated. Her lab is in a fairly distant wing from the hospital part.

because I don't know if the internal distribution is legit or unwarranted. But, I'm pretty sure we're talking the same place.

Orange County is already vaccinating 65+ year olds. Disneyland is one of the vaccination sites.

is what happened in my hometown. The mayor who is 28 got the shot while we have people over 75 who still don't have it along with first responders.

I will wait my turn like most people should and pray my wife gets it sooner with her health issues.

But, pretty chaotic here in the state of NY. One of my kids made an appointment for me (and Mrs Shofner) for late February, but let's see if that happens. I have my doubts based on what I've seen so far.

The medical school made the vaccine easily accessible to it's employees

the other system used a very tiered system of who could get the vaccine first and it has been much less effective in getting it's employees protected.

Due out “very soon” according to CEO. Traditional vaccines are super easy to manufacture that said the supply chain is 1000x easier since it’s one shot and more standard temp range. Between JJ cutting trial short and the CEO seeming bullish at JP I would be cautiously optimistic they like what they are seeing. Cutting the trial short means they got to clinical significance fast enough, generally if it’s at all murky you keep it going, if it sucks you would have to announce in a 8k, so to me that means positive. JJ working say above 75% will change everything.

For an alert if you can promise to be at a nearby location within 60 minutes they will email you at the end of the day if there are any extra doses leftover that will otherwise go to waste. Might be only one or two doses per day but it's a good idea. It's such an incredible and unprecedented rollout there's bound to be some glitches but I think they'll start getting better and better as time goes on.

Can now register for the vaccine if 75 or older and get an appointment date. Use Fairfax County Department of Health and links there to vaccine.

...both in healthcare. My wife's arm is red and sore at the injection point a week later. About a 6"diameter of her arm is pink there. Guessing an allergic reaction? Pushing her to go get it checked.

So sad to hear your loss, Pete. Saw well put together segment on PBS news last night on recurring long term pulmonary and/or vascular symptoms of young, healthy adults who have already recovered from Covid. Many very disturbing symptoms of vascular weakness and failure.

I work in an area where far too many people have swallowed the "Covid is fake news" horse pucky. In retail, have daily confrontations with non mask wearers...

At the Javits center, it’s pretty obvious that the issue is with supply. They could easily turn 1000 people over an hour. I know we all want to point the finger at whose fault this is that it’s taken time but there are only a handful of people in the world who know how to manufacture this new type of vaccine. It’s going to take a WWII type of effort from the govt to figure out who to assist these companies in manufacturing.

I did, they had seating at every step for a few hundred people, I was in and out I. 20 minutes

Painless. Scheduled 2nd shot in 4 weeks.

out of the scheduling in NJ. They added smokers as at risk people so there are now 2mil more ahead of me, Im 64 with no risk factors. However the health comm said you can enroll and NO documentation is required to prove your classification. So essentially you can show up and say your 1A and not have to prove it.

my first Moderna dose yesterday. It might be a coincidence but I woke up feeling really good this morning. My arm doesn't even hurt.

The way they are doing it in SC is a 15 minute wait after the shot to make sure there is no reaction and for those who have had allergic reactions in the past or are susceptible - a mandatory waiting time of 30 minutes afterwards.

..she was down with flu-like symptoms all Christmas day, then fine. She got her second dose on Monday and spiked a 102.6 fever that night and was down with flu-like symptoms until around 8pm last night. It's affecting different people in different way.

today. I’m guessing the immune response is zapping my energy.

NJ is a shit show, luckily my in laws got scheduled for Sunday..

They got a trxt saying they can now schddule a time, went to do friday it was booked in 2 minutes, same thing with saturday...
