Injury Report 1/13 vs. BKN: Taj Gibson is available; Probable - Obi Toppin (strained right calf); Doubtful - Reggie Bullock (sore right hip); Out - Alec Burks (sprained left ankle) and Frank Ntilikina (sprained right knee).
If I'm the Nets, I'd move Kyrie for Harden in a heartbeat. Harden, for all his dramatics, at least plays the damn games. Irving is off doing whatever that would have most, if not all, of us fired in a heartbeat.
to make up for a misjudging of Kyrie's daily availability.... to trade Allen and Levert... for Harden. they can do whatever they want but to move those 2... which is who any team should ask for in a blockbuster... would be upsetting.
I would much rather trade the farm for Beal if that was ever an option- fk harden
side not KD looked unreal last night to close it out
and sometimes it kills this team. He subbed out IQ after the kid hits his second three. Bruce Brown muscled him and Tibs pulled him. What happens next...no offense on the court Payton misses four shots and turns the ball over two other times and we close the half on a 15-2 run against us. IQ needs to play!!!!! Payton sucks...can't watch him miss another shot from two feet away.
He looks numb out there. Just blank, he’s overwhelmed and drowning. Shooting a basketball is not that hard. He’s got the hoops equivalent of the putting yips. Hopefully Obi can play, play with confidence and skill and a measure of competence — probably too much to ask.
... he’ll draw something out of RJ. He’s completely lost right now, like Gary Sanchez in the middle of one of his 2 for 50 slumps. RJ might not be good, but he’s not this bad ... somehow, someway they gotta get him out of this.
Randle has been fantastic thisbyear but he can’t create his own shot consistently and easily. We do not have one player in this team that get a basket when we really need a basket. They need to start drafting players that can score and shoot. You can’t play 4 guys in a starting line up that can’t make 3 point shots
I don’t care how they do it or who he is, but they need to find someone else to play instead of Payton. There has to be someone out there that is better than this guy. I will never understand how they chose to bring him back as the starting point guard.

Burks needs to come back, stsrt quickley and rivers back up point
honestly how can Thibs not start quickley next game??
I guess I got too excited with the first 8 games and I think we are seeing what this team really is now. Randle has been phenomenal but you can’t win in the NBA when he is your go to go when you need a bucket. The Knicks don’t have a guy that can just go and get a bucket. This is why I am all in on Beal. I don’t care what it costs go and get him. The reason I say this is because to me Mitch is the only young guy with all star potential in the next 3 years. I think Knox can become a very good player but that is going to take another 4 years and he will be due for a bigger contract before then. I know RJ is young but I don’t see the upside in him that other young players in this league have. He has terrible shooting form, he is very slow and lacks athleticism for the position he needs to play. His best bet may be to beef up and try to play a small ball power forward.
Randle is clearly the best player on this team, 30, 7 and 5 assists only 2 turnovers. Was basically the entire offense in the first half. If teams are going to give him the midrange he needs to keep taking it.
Rj needs to live in the midrange and at the rim, dont worry aboit the 3 right now, take 2 maybe 3 a game to keep defense honest but his midrange game is going to propel him.
Knox best 3 point shooter on the team right now 42%, i wrote him off to start the year but i think he needs to start and finish games. His defense and hustle is better.
Mitch double-double, playing great right now..really not much else to say
Noel is garbage, when Gibson is ready i expect him to take Noels minutes..
Quickley got his shot back tonight and you can just see the energy he brings. He is not a true point guard by any means but he is a floor spacer and can get into the lane..
Rivers was meh tonight, he is passing up to many open shots, if its open shoot.
Payton needs to go away he kills any momentum this team gets offensively. Last i think with 4 minutes left rivers hit back to back 3s to cut it to 13 Knicks get a stop, Payton comes down looks off Rivers and takes a long pull up 2 misses of course. Like WTF are you doing? Needs to be benched and i believe Thibs took him out right after that..
Going forward Rivers or Quickley needs to start, Knox should be the starting 3..adds somr floor spacers on the court with the starting unit.
Team doesnt need a traditional point, just a guy who can shoot and handle a little bit..
When Burks is back Payton should not play anymore, shit at this point i dont think he should play burks or not, give Harper some minutes at least he can shoot..
I like Thibs and i think he is a good coach but he needs to bench Payton and if he doesnt i am going to start losing patience
He's not going to stay at 17% from 3 this year, Breen even said on the telecast his form looks better.
Does good form and a good looking shot lead to better shooting? Not always, but look at...Kevin Knox!
I am with all the posters crushing Elf.
Mitch needs to shoot once or twice a game from the outside, starting soon.
Several guys (not named Julius Randle) hesitate to take open looks and instead make passes, including Quickley, Rivers, and Barrett. Would like to see them just take their open looks rather than rely on Randle to invent a good look with like 6 seconds left on the shot clock.
I want to see Mitch take open jumpers not only because I'd like him to develop, but because it would help our spacing. Right now defenders don't even come out on him when he has the ball, and they also don't defend Peyton all the way to the 3 point line to bait him to shoot. So you have two guys in our starting five who defenders sag off of and clog the middle when they get the ball. That needs to change (by encouraging Mitch to shoot and reducing Elf's minutes.)
Randle is clearly the best player on this team, 30, 7 and 5 assists only 2 turnovers. Was basically the entire offense in the first half. If teams are going to give him the midrange he needs to keep taking it.

Agree with pretty much all of this.
One observation about Quickley, it seemed like for the past few games his shooting was so bad because he was trying to hard to draw fouls. Every time he took a shot he was trying to take an off balance leaner to try and draw contact, or just throwing the ball at the rim when he felt like he got bumped. It was like he took the Trae Young thing to the extreme. Last night he seemed much more in control and just took good shots instead of trying to draw contact. Let's see more of that and less of the wanna be Trae Young nonsense.
I think he settles for the 3 to much because Payton is on the floor with the ball in his hands and when thr ball is in Paytons hands Rj becomes a spot up shooter..
I think in Rjs head he thinks he has to be a floor spacer and he doesnt that shouldnt be bis job..
RE: The guys who are crushing RJ are out of their minds.
He's not going to stay at 17% from 3 this year, Breen even said on the telecast his form looks better.
Does good form and a good looking shot lead to better shooting? Not always, but look at...Kevin Knox!
He was a terrible outside shooter at Duke and he's been a terrible outside shooter here. Right now, you have nothing more than form to suggest he can be even an average 3pt shooter.
typically has one floor spacer. I don't count Randle even though he's at a respectable 34%...simply because defenders are sagging off him and giving him the shot in most cases. I'd start Knox and let RJ come off the bench. There will still be plenty of mins for RJ. Randle usually draws an extra defender when he goes to the rim. Knox can take advantage of that more so than RJ at this point. Payton is just a bad offensive player on most nights. I'd give his minutes to Frank if Frank ever gets healthy. At least you get good defense and a guy who can guard multiple positions while he's throwing up bricks.
- Mitch needs to shoot that top of the key shot. Not every time but a few times a game.
- Randle has been great- major plus on this season.
- Knox has looked good and needs to play even more.
- Rivers is being asked to do too much. He's a backup.
They have to find another point guard besides Payton. You cannot have him playing 30-35 minutes a night. I'm not even sure he's an nba player let alone a starting point guard. There has to be a free agent, G league or a guy at the local gym better than him. It's not even like hes a stout defender that sucks on offense. He's bad at pretty much everything. Just last night Bruce Brown and Chiozza looked significantly better than him. Its beyond time to move on.
RJ is simply killing them. His defenders completely clog the lane when he doesn't have the ball and go under every screen and play off him when he doesn't. I'd bring him off the bench and implore him to drive and hit that mid range until he gets his confidence back.
But long term how do you build around a guy like him? What does he excel at? I just hope there's a team out there that sees some potential in him and that can pull a trade.
Lastly its truly amazing how long the Knicks have been awful at the point guard position. Meanwhile Haliburton is playing great. Did anyone ever hear why the Knicks showed zero interest in drafting him?
It's hard to accept just how shitty their guard play has been year after year... There are a number of backups in this league who would easily start for the Knicks. Not a good look for Leon Rose...

Haliburton coming out of college people saw him mlre as an off ball player, not the most athletic, can shoot, and just a good ball mover..
I havnt watched him play so i dony knoe if he is playing a lot of point guard or is playing a lot of off the ball..
I said form the start of the college season that Halliburton was my guy. He is such an efficient shooter, which is the main thing the Knicks are missing. Not sure if you guys remember but I was really pushing for the Knicks to pick donovan mitchell in the frank draft. If the Knicks would just listen to me we would be in much better shape today.
He played well last night. I wouldn't send him to the bench. The team needs scoring and he's the best option after Randle to do that. Keep starting him and tell him to keep shooting.

Pretty much spot on. How much better would this team be if they had taken Haliburton instead of Obi and bit the bullet and signed Heyward instead of Charlotte. That's a gamble that paid off big time for them. I know we all scoffed at the 30 mill, but he seems all the way back and for 4 years that would have been worth it. He and Haliburton would have meshed with the way Randle is playing right now like a glove.
He played well last night. I wouldn't send him to the bench. The team needs scoring and he's the best option after Randle to do that. Keep starting him and tell him to keep shooting.
If Rj played the 1st half like he did the 2nd half Knicks arnt down 16 at half..
He needs to play downhill and stop worrying about perfecting his 3 point shot..
needs to hone the midrange game. He can live there and be a really successful player. He was nailing those shots last night in the second half and was carrying the knicks for a stretch.
He played well last night. I wouldn't send him to the bench. The team needs scoring and he's the best option after Randle to do that. Keep starting him and tell him to keep shooting.
Yes he is. They were times last night where Randle kicked to him and his defender didn't even bother closing on him.
When you look at his usage rate and minutes with his terrible shooting numbers- yes he is really hurting them and playing very poorly. This is on top of his bad defense. I'm not sure hows that debatable.
A lot of RJ hate. I get the frustration and he's gotta improve
but it's a bit ridiculous. He had 20 pts on 15 shots last night. He definitely wasn't killing the team. I actually think he's a pretty steady defender - not bad at all.
He's not efficient. I do think he can get there if he gets consistent with the jumper and improves his finishes at the rim.
He's 20 and leading the league in minutes. Maybe we show a little patience here? You could send him to the bench but I fail to see how that helps. It won't help him get better and there is no better option waiting on the bench, either. The team needs points and RJ is one of the few options they have right now to get them.

That is the same argument that was hurled at me in preseason when I said Knox could be a good shooter. RJ can become competent. Will he? Idk or I'd be a scout (lol no I wouldn't they have miserable lives).
hahahaha

News: There has been legitimate movement on the Harden front.
Brooklyn is prepared to offer *anyone* that Houston wants aside from Durant for Harden, as well as 3 1sts & swaps.
BK willing to make the same bet it once made on KG & Pierce, but on Harden.

Interesting to add him to that team. And here I was thinking that Harden is almost fat and toxic enough to be attractive to Dolan.
I would much rather trade the farm for Beal if that was ever an option- fk harden
side not KD looked unreal last night to close it out
Durant looks fully back. What an incredible talent.
Just a random thought watching the game last night. Would you trade Barrett for Levert?
We are learning a lot about Knox, RJ, Mitch, and Quickley.
This was always a lottery team.
If and when they get healthy they will still overachieve this season.
I'm able to go if needed.
Thibs said he is cleared but not sure if he will get minutes
for 1 minute lol
Rivers is definitely best coming off the bench.
It's so hard to win when you get absolutely nothing from your backcourt.
Oh the sweet days of 5-3.
Payton shooting pull up 15 footers is killing this team..
Rj cant hit anything not even layups at this point..
Bench them both, they are both killing this team..
Rj also has to be thr laziest defender i have ever seen, worse than knox
I know I’m a bad fan, but the last 5 minutes were so depressing I think I gotta give it a break out of self-preservation lol.

Calling it now he is traded before next season
Enough with this no shooting starting lineup..

I’d rather not watch than watch Payton and guys clanking it from mid-range with no rebounders in sight. It’s just pointless, nowhere basketball.
The lack of shooting just won't work.
Whats crazy is when it happened, everyone said he was fine and would play next game
The lack of shooting just won't work.
id trade him for buddy hield at this point

How about you get rid of the scrubs who have been here longer and are not showing any signs of being more than what they currently are.
How about you get rid of the bum that leads this team, and came here just to build his brand, that being Randle.
You want to see someone traded, start there.
The lack of shooting just won't work.
What value does he have?
problem is the starting lineup has zero spacing..
I cant watch payton play anymore
Burks needs to come back, stsrt quickley and rivers back up point

If Rj played the 1st half like he did the 2nd half Knicks arnt down 16 at half..
He needs to play downhill and stop worrying about perfecting his 3 point shot..

He played well last night. I wouldn't send him to the bench. The team needs scoring and he's the best option after Randle to do that.
I fail to see how a guy shooting 37% from the floor is our second best option. He's actively hurting this team right now.
Who is second after Randle?

That doesnt have anything to do with it, if he is ineffecient it doesnt matter if he is the 2md scorer..
If your 2nd scorer is shooting 37% you wont win many games
Yes he is. They were times last night where Randle kicked to him and his defender didn't even bother closing on him.
When you look at his usage rate and minutes with his terrible shooting numbers- yes he is really hurting them and playing very poorly. This is on top of his bad defense. I'm not sure hows that debatable.

That is the same argument that was hurled at me in preseason when I said Knox could be a good shooter. RJ can become competent. Will he? Idk or I'd be a scout (lol no I wouldn't they have miserable lives).
