-Mets interested in Albert Almora. He's a horrid offensive player. Think Juan Lagares. The Cubs non-tendered him despite a projected... 1.5 million award. 5th OF/minor league deal? Sure. Otherwise, nothing interesting about him.
-Kluber was 88-90, teams apparently came away intrigued. Cishek and Swarzak also threw.
-Martino says there is speculation Tanaka is headed back to Japan despite his denials
-Phillies met with Realmuto
Love the signing. Great gamble if there’s a DH. Could be PH depth too. If Alonso or Smith went down, and there’s a DH, he could really fill in for us and give us some pop.
Nice sneaky move to add a bat. His fielding is Jay Bruce style bad though like you said.

Jose Martinez was worth 4.0 fWAR 2017+2018. Horrendous OF (more of a DH) but solid on a split deal

Agreed. Nice depth move.
Martinez is -24 DRS career in the OF, -27 OAA, so he's an OF in name only. DH/1b, still nice at the price.

Martinez will earn $225K if he's in the minors, per source.
I think it's just an example of Cohen being able to flex his muscles and throw 250,000 down the drain if need be. Split deal is why this makes sense. Pray his 2000 Yankees Glenallen Hill and not 33 and "done". Wasn't great in 2019 but still hit lefties.

Same. I'd have perhaps been more aggressive on Realmuto and then Carrasco as a standalone pickup, but difficult to say if that was possible (they acknowledged trying both of those things). Would have also called on and considered Arenado, but hard to argue with Lindor AND Carrasco instead.
McCann on 4 years seems worth the upside. If his defense is as strong as it was last year that will be a great deal.

Lets hope they don’t amend the schedule and give us all NL East games.

The reliever market, at least, might finally be gaining momentum in the wake of Liam Hendriks’ massive deal with the White Sox. Pedro Baez joined Houston yesterday, and Archie Bradley is closing in on a deal of his own, sources tell me and
@JeffPassan
. Team unknown at this point.
I know they've been expressing desire for a LHP but obviously Porter familiarity makes this something worth keeping an eye on.

Don't think they have room for both Bradley and Hand.
Familia, Betances, Diaz, May, Brach, Barnes, Lugo, Castro all have guaranteed contracts. 2 more? I find it hard to believe. Gotta believe they add one more (likely hand) and then some non-guaranteed types unless they make a few trades.
Garcia, Zamora, Tarpley (I like his stuff, just saying he could easily be dropped), Drew Smith.. Oswalt and Gsellman are probably safe "for now" but they also could go with no problem.
And if they do deal Betances/Familia to save money maybe they could fit both of them?

Matz too, but I doubt they'd do that before ST. His roster spot would likely only go to the person who beats him out.

unrelated looking at the 40 man they have a few guys they could dump pretty easily.

I have to believe Matz is safer than the others I named. I'm not saying he makes the team but barring multiple SP's added I assume they risk the 833,000 to see what he has.

100% agree.
Marlins will be annoying, Phillies aren't as bad as people are saying, I'm not big on the Nats but I'm sure they will be fine/good. Braves are looking for yet another SP.
NL East is going to be very tough.
Nola/Eflin/Wheeler is as good of a top 3 as any. Howard/Velasquez round out a very solid rotation on paper and then their lineup is solid throughout. Obviously, they need to keep Realmuto.
NL East is going to be very tough.
Robles was supposed to be THE guy for them (I'm not jinxing the Mets, he can still be good) but then Soto went and went MVP-supernova stud. Luckily the Nats farm sucks.
They have 3 above average SP and Howard should be very good as well (was rushed heavily). Their lineup is strong throughout
7 hitters league average or better by OPS+, 5 over 120. They aren’t some great team at all but they are very solid. Any team with 3 SP with a 3.19, 3.22 and 3.39 FIP is going to be decent.
The Twins had 6 RP in 2020 with sub 3.50 FIPs. Nope. The Mets couldn't use more help the pen. The Dodgers had 7 RP's with 10 or more appearances with a sub 3.42 FIP and added Knebel career 3.31. The 2021 Mets have ONE RP who posted a sub 3.42 FIP in 2020 (Diaz).
