First game is tonight at 7 PM and the second game is Saturday at 7 PM.
You know the storylines: Laf's debut. Miller's debut. Kakko's redemption tour. The beginning of Igor's reign. Jack Johnson's.....yeah.
First three lines:
Kreider | Zibanejad | Buchnevich
Panarin | Strome | Kakko
Lafreniere | Chytil | Gauthier
Top-4 defensive pairs:
Miller | Trouba
Lindgren | Fox
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!!
Should have hired Laviolette, if for no other reason it would have pissed off a lot of Boston people having to root for the Rangers.
The Rangers lost. They looked really bad. They also have a lot of new pieces an young players. Was Quinn supposed to do something special to rise to the occasion of "the big game"??

That's always been the case. We were rebuilding and he was brought in to develop the young guys. I don't think anyone could've realistically seen Quinn as a guy who would lead them to the Stanley Cup.

Its not ao much it was a big game, or even losing to hated rival. They looked downright pathetic. Scored zero times. When the divisions were realigned the way they were, I figured we'd be fucked to make the playoffs. But I did not expect them to look as piss poor as they did.
Every MLB season, Yankee fans want the coach fired after the first week of play.
I have no idea where this team will shake out, but acting like the season is over and that Quinn has no shot to get through to the players because they looked bad Game 1 isn't really very smart.
It isn't too surprising that a young team with a G getting his first play as the leader might look bad, especially without a crowd, a truncated training camp, etc.
And it's not like the Islanders suck.

I think you might be reading a little too much into my reaction. However, dating back to the playoff bubble, the team has looked woefully unready to play. As far as Im concerned thats on the coach. I simply saw last night as continuation of the trend.
2) Georgiev will make the start tomorrow
3) DeAngelo may be a healthy scratch. He skated with the taxi squad, while Anthony Bitetto moved up to skate with Jack Johnson
Has to be a scapegoat.
The people who said Johnson would just be a bottom-pairing, sparely used dman should feel pretty stupid.
The Rangers have been terrible analyzing NHL dmen the past decade. Extending Girardi and Staal as they were declining, letting Stralman go, signing Johnson, etc. It's a huge blind spot.

Brett Howden has been pure shit since he first entered the lineup and Quinn never holds him responsible for anything, but in a game where Jack Johnson was one of the worst defensemen to ever suit up as a Ranger, he makes an example of DeAngelo. Absurd.

Serious question, is Jack Johnson even a better defenseman than Brendan Smith at this point?

Jack Johnson was arguably the worst full-time defenseman last year

Well Smith DID play wing much of last year right? Lol.
I mean, at least Smith can be physical when he needs to be.
I expected Johnson would be bottom pair, maybe PK.
and it's been one game, so I'm not sure how solid each person is in their role.
His contract is low enough (basically league vet min) I'm not sure the consternation is warranted. yet.
Smith, even if better than Johnson (and that's a tallest midget contest), Smith's contract (and the trade) is/were terrible.

I get all of that. Lets just see some more jump tonight.

I'd have more patience if the Rangers weren't consistently awful at analyzing dmen.
Clutterbuck injured Varlamov in warm ups
Chytil and Di Guisippe (sp?)
Ha! Sounds good to me.
lol
LOL!
Shesterkin is older than Georgiev, isn't he?

Hah yeah. Should've said, "go with the more experienced Russian"
whoa - just checking in - WTF!?!?!
From his Wikipedia:
"Born in Bulgaria, Georgiev started playing hockey in Russia, where his family moved shortly after he was born"
This divison is going to be a war. It’s not fair to the teams in the division, but it’ll be entertaining fuck.
These games have become lopsided wins in both directions lately. On the broadcast they mentioned something like 4 of the last 6 NYI/NYR games have been decided by four or more goals.
I think both fan bases saw each end of the spectrum for their team in the last two days. Honestly I feel about the Islanders right now exactly how I did on Wednesday.
I was disappointed Sorokin had to have that kind of debut. The first Buchnevich goal was soft, but making your highly anticipated NHL debut unplanned with 15 minutes notice is probably a little unsettling. Probably more unsettling when your sound defensive team makes uncharacteristic mistakes in front of you all night.
Smith and DiGiuseppe were also big factors for the Rangers last night, and while the Islanders didn’t have a ton of chances, Georgiev was steady back there. Zibanejad and Panarin looked like they played with another gear last night compared to Thursday. Trouba arguably played his best game as a Ranger and looked like the guy they traded for. It doesn’t get any easier for the Rangers though with NJ playing some very good hockey to start the year, and Pittsburgh is always dangerous. This is going to be a hell of a season. These all feel like playoff games!

To be fair, I think Georgiev is from Belarus...just saying. 😉
Sorry, yes Bulgarian is correct.
- K'Andre is a dream skater. So smooth, covers a lot of ice
_ Lindgren, two games in, his face is already fucked up
- Buchnevich has really turned his game around from a few years ago
- Did anybI'llody notice Panarin joking around by mouthing off to Johnston (oh my God does he look like big bastard) as he skated away from that toss up on the boards? I thought it was pretty funny.
