How would you rank the QBs this upcoming weekend?

Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/14/2021 10:48 am
Not in terms of who had the best season or who has had the best career, but simply in terms of who you would want under center for your team in a playoff game at this moment in time. I'm talking about in a vacuum, not matchup specific for this weekend.

1. Mahomes
2. Rodgers
3. Brady
4. Allen
5. Jackson
6. Brees
7. Mayfield
8. Goff

I feel like #8 is pretty much a lock. I feel like 95% would put Goff there, although I guess Lamar and Mayfield both have enough haters who might put them last.

Brees still puts up nice stats but it feels like he's a shell of his former self. But he's still Drew Brees, so would I really rather have Lamar or even Allen over him?

Then the top 3/4 is very tough. All of those guys are currently playing at an MVP caliber level. Brady has been insane the last month, Rodgers is going to win his 3rd MVP, Allen is going to finish Top 4 in the MVP race and might be the true MVP in terms of importance to a team, and Mahomes is the defending SB champ and popular pick as the best player in the sport.
Considering defensive matchup

1. Mahomes
2. Rodgers
3. Mayfield
4. Allen
5. Brady
6. Jackson
7. Brees

8. Goff/Woford
I don’t know how I would rank them but I’m sure Rodgers would be near
Ivan15 : 1/14/2021 10:53 am : link
The bottom of my list.

You can’t count on him to carry a team in a “win or you’re out” game.
here's mine
UConn4523 : 1/14/2021 10:55 am : link
1. Mahomes
2. Rodgers
3. Jackson
4. Allen
5. Brady
6. Mayfield
7. Brees
8. Goff

The top 4 can all avoid pressure, throw on the run, and make plays when needed on the ground (to varying degrees). Pressure on Brady up the middle bumps him down for me. Dropping Brees because I don't think he can throw that well downfield and if he's playing from behind it will be dicey for him.
In a vacuum?

Mahomes
Josh Allen
Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Lamar
Baker Mayfield

Josh Allen is just playing exceptional football right now.

Is going to have a tremendous game Sunday. I think the Browns are in that game into the final minutes. I love the points and think they are a live dog. Mayfield has quietly been one of the most efficient QBs in the NFL. And that running game will go for 200+ and dominate TOP. Browns needs to finish with 7s when they get inside the 20. That will be the key to the upset. I think they'll move it at will in between the 20s. Finish drives.

Mayfield is playing very well, and having him at #7 on that list says more about all of the elite QBs playing this weekend then it does about Mayfield. He just isn't there yet.

When push comes to shove in the playoffs, I trust Brady and Brees to make the necessary plays to win way more than I do Mayfield. The Browns will go as far as their running game takes them.

The other guys above him just have more raw talent than Mayfield does.
i'd go..

Can't put a SB QB
NINEster : 1/14/2021 2:05 pm : link
under Lamar Jackson. He still has more to prove, starting this week. He may not need to beat the Bills, but can't have another disaster like Tennessee last year.

If Goff was total garbage the Rams would have lost last week.
General comments

Mahomes vs. Allen: More about the experience than the talent gap, IMO.

Mayfield should be fascinating to watch this weekend.

Brees is like the pocket version of Lamar these days regarding the postseason drop off. The two convincing defeats of the Bucs mean nothing going into this weekend.

Brady should be ok. I think the Patriots being outmatched by the Titans last year had more to do with his performance in that game than he himself.

Rodgers is reliable in the winter, at home. Good Rams defense will make him uncomfortable but not sure this current Rams defense was on the level of others that suffocated him in prior postseason campaigns (Giants, 49ers, Cardinals).

Goff will probably be ok in this game with heavy emphasis on the run.

Lamar I'm not judging on W/L, but his performance strictly. This game will be a huge benchmark for years to come, I think.
I think Baltimore is a bad matchup for Buffalo
Go Terps : 1/14/2021 2:16 pm : link
Buffalo struggles against the run, and especially with giving up big explosive runs.

I don’t see it I think the browns get blown out.... There secondary will hurt them and they’ll fall behind Mayfield makes a mistake final score 38-17 Kansas City

I agree I think Baltimore will run all over Buffalo, the Ravens defense is playing very well and I think they limit Allan

Certainly possible, but KC has played nothing but close games going back to Nov 1. And KC is a pretty 1 dimensional team, granted that dimension is elite, but when the Browns have the ball I don't see KC having answers for anything they do. They can go no huddle to prevent KC from rotating Dlinemen and really wear them down as the game goes on. Chubb has the Emmitt Smith quality of finding the hole and then they bring in Hunt fresh behind him. Mayfield rarely has passes hit the ground of late. They do a lot of play actions & their empty backfield set has been the highest rated pass formation in the NFL this season.
if I were starting a team?
81_Great_Dane : 1/14/2021 2:46 pm : link
and all that mattered was the player's future?

Mahomes
Allen
Jackson (still not a proven passer IMO but an MVP level player)
Mayfield
Rodgers (declining but not done yet)
Goff (Meh but young)
Brady
Brees (in major decline and probably soon to retire, but still can rise up)

For one game?

Mahomes
Allen
Jackson
Rodgers
Brady
Brees
Mayfield
Goff

I think the order of Brady-Brees-Mayfield is debatable.
it's interesting
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/14/2021 3:57 pm : link
that Rodgers just threw for 48 TDs and 5 INTs and will win his 3rd MVP, yet the overwhelming consensus is that Mahomes is just better than him right now.

I think Rodgers is a phenomenal regalar season QB who has not shown the same kind of results in the playoffs. That is probably leading many - including myself - to knock him down behind Mahomes.

If we are going on total body of work in the NFL Brady is #1 and the rest of the discussion is about who is #2 - #8.

I feel like the Chiefs have been on cruise control most of the season, only turning it on when facing good opponents. They won at Tampa, at New Orleans, at Buffalo, and at Baltimore this season. Pat Mahomes had 12 TD passes, 1 rushing TD, and zero interceptions in those 4 games.

They are neck and neck for me, put Mahomes ahead due to the offense he's in and him being better at maneuvering at his age. But Rodgers the passer is still tops for me. Its close, and I want that matchup so badly in the Superbowl.
Love Rodgers but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him struggle
Zeke's Alibi : 1/15/2021 11:52 am : link
Definitely some chinks in the armor in that last Bears game even though the star line didn’t reflect it. If Donald is effective could see him putting up a dud. Mahomes play seemed to be a bit up and down in December plus a layoff.

Probably get killed for this, but if I’m taking one QB right now it’s Allen. Just absolutely locked in right now.
That Bills/Ravens game is very interesting.
Zeke's Alibi : 1/15/2021 11:55 am : link
Bills defense is mediocre, but absolutely trash against the tight end, league worst, which is the Ravens strength. Then you have a Bills offense that looks locked in going against a Ravens defense that just shut down one of the best offenses in league.
Bills held Lamar Jackson to 40 yds. rushing last year
WillieYoung : 1/15/2021 3:12 pm : link
Lost 24-20. But this year's Bills offense is light years ahead of last year's.
