NFT: NBA: As the Kyrie turns...

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/14/2021 6:32 pm
'Irving is prepared to sit out the remainder of the campaign amid his growing frustration with the Nets, KRON-TV’s Jason Dumas reported Wednesday. The star point guard, who has missed Brooklyn’s last five games while the NBA investigates videos of his maskless partying, reportedly is irate with the organization for multiple reasons, including the hiring of head coach Steve Nash.'

'There also are reports indicating Brooklyn’s acquisition of James Harden was not approved by Irving, who reportedly was not answering the Nets’ calls as recently as Wednesday afternoon.'

Absent this guy having real mental health issues, he is one bizarre character. From believing the earth is flat to his comments to the media before the season to this...

If I was Sean Marks, Steve Nash, or anyone in the organization, I'd be beyond pissed with this guy. The dude has gone completely AWOL in the middle of a season that has championship aspirations.

Kevin Durant is the main reason Nash was hired
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/14/2021 6:56 pm : link
And from everything that we heard, Kyrie was a fan of Nash too. So I'm not sure where that's coming from.

I don't know what Kyrie's endgame is here, but I do know that when push comes to shove it's all about the $$$$$$$ and when he gets threatened with his contract being voided then he'll return.

but as long as Irving is there I just can’t do it. As unlikable as a player can possibly be, and also isn’t good enough to warrant even being a villain. He’s just a bitch.
What a whack job.

One crazy person. Suspend him for the season and don’t pay him.
The Knicks should offer Elfrid Payton and DSJ for him.

Yeah, Kyrie and Dolan would be a perfect fit. What could go wrong?
I assume they're docking his pay at this point.
Mad Mike : 1/14/2021 8:03 pm : link
One or two games? They probably had the right to, but high profile player, I could see not wanting to piss him off. But at this point, he's really bailing on them, with no excuse. Whatever his mental health issues are, if they're severe enough to be a legitimate reason to miss time then he should be in a mental health facility. I'm sympathetic if he was really affected by what went on last week, or whatever other issues have gotten to him, and if he doesn't want to play, so be it, but he shouldn't be getting paid. And if he's just pissy about Nash or Harden, well, no sympathy there. You can pick where you sign, but you can't also run the entire team.

well if it's speculation all over! Sorry the Nash thing in particular just don't pass the smell test. Kyrie is obviously nuts but when he has been on the court he has played unreal and the entire reason they hired Nash to begin with was his relationship with he and KD.
what a disgrace
MookGiants : 1/14/2021 8:18 pm : link
the NBA has become where teams are allowing this type of behavior and not already telling him, fuck you you're not getting paid.

I’ve never heard that Kyrie has any problem with the Nets organization. Even today Marks said Kyrie is looking forward to returning and the he spoke to both Durant & Kyrie prior to making the Harden trade. I don’t think Marks would lie about it. There is nothing to gain from that.

I imagine the NESN reporters have a grudge against Kyrie.

Marks could easily not say anything. That is his usual MO. I don’t think he would make a statement just for it to be an outright lie.

I'm not a psychologist, but for better or for worse I know a lot of people with varying degrees of mental health issues. This reminds me of that. I could be wrong. If he really is just a huge selfish brat, then yeah, screw him.

There are folks at NESN who despise Kyrie.
BigBlueNH : 1/14/2021 10:46 pm : link
Clearly, the guy is having problems and is hurting the team by his absence. But there is nothing in this article that is consistent with anything else being reported about his relationship with the Nets. I call BS.

had anything to do with basketball, i think if he is mad at the Nets he is mad they didnt boycott..

I think this has everything to do with what has gone on in this country, as far as i will go because i dont want to turn political..

1 game i understand, now it is jist craziness
this has def got out of control...
Italianju : 1/15/2021 9:15 am : link
the first game he missed it was like "ok i get it", but this is absurd. What happened in DC shook and upset most people and im sure most of the league. Yet he is the only one who cant bring himself to play?

I mean i live and work in DC and it def shook me. My work did close our building on Wed/thur but by Friday i was expected you know to go back to work.

zero chance the nets void his deal...

even with him pulling shit like this they could trade him for something.

Just for arguments sake, what team would even currently entertain trading for him?
What value does a guy who never wants to play hold?
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/15/2021 10:35 am : link
This isn't even the first time. He just decides to take time off. He's a month in with a new team.
to be clear i dont think the nets get anything...
Italianju : 1/15/2021 10:42 am : link
of real value for him, but i bet they could trade him. All he would have to do is come back and play for like 5 games in a row and some team would take a shot.

Would lebron give the Ok to jettison spare parts for him? Would Riley think his talent is worth trading away Iggy and Dragic for him?

Again Kyrie would probably have to come back first and he would have to ok the deal, but we have seen this all the time in sports. Its the Crazy/hot scale but its pain in the ass/talent, as long as the talent is there someone will keep taking shots with them.
Get something for him?
Carl in CT : 1/15/2021 10:47 am : link
Do you think a GM would risk his career and take on that contract with a player of his mind set? I don’t think they would get anything.
Kyrie
TyreeHelmet : 1/15/2021 10:47 am : link
You are right that people will always gamble on talent. But this guy is flat out refusing to show up for work. And this is the team and situation he chose for himself in his hometown. How could any team rely on him?

Maybe a team would take him in a salary dump but I honestly even doubt that. This is on top of the fact that he is constantly injured.

I don't think the Lakers or Miami would go down that road. You are risking him blowing up your team and you have that monster salary on the books.
doesnt really matter anyway...
Italianju : 1/15/2021 10:48 am : link
the Nets need him, they have gutted their team for the big 3. If you lose Kyrie its KD/Harden and a bunch of crap. That team isnt getting out of the east despite how amazing that duo is.

Whether they cut him (no chance they do this, they are in cap hell and lose him for nothing, they gain nothing) or trade him for 10 cents on the dollar the team will end up worse and i dont see how they get close to coming out of the East.
i literally said they wont get anything of value for him...
Italianju : 1/15/2021 10:50 am : link
but i think they would at least get overpaid vets back to make the salaries work.

I just randomly chose MIA and LA.

The contract wouldnt really matter to teams that are way over the cap, that would be the kind of team id be saying would take a chance.

and maybe im wrong....
Italianju : 1/15/2021 10:52 am : link
wouldnt be the first time, ha. But hey im just happy that this new knicks regime seems to have some self control cause i know i dont want to deal with Kyrie on the Knicks, lol.
League has fined him $50k
shyster : 1/15/2021 11:45 am : link
and set a 5 day protocol that expires tomorrow.

He has also forfeited $800K in salary for the two games he has missed thus far.

Will he be back vs Magic? Stay tuned.
