Was the DC for the 49ers from 2017-2020.
Defense rankings were
2017-25th
2018-28th
2019-8th also had Bosa on the team. Bosa is not going with him to the jets.
Everybody is making him this defensive genius. Let’s see what he does with the jets.
enough to post on a website dedicated to football conversation are deciding if a HC is good hire by posting his coordinator league rankings.
HC is a completely different skill set. On the surface he seems like a person who has that skill set. We'll find out in a few years.
It would be great if the Jets and Giants solved their HC problems. That's the first step. Now both of teams need to solve their QB issues because the two NJ QBs were pretty much the worst in the NFL last year and there's a good chance they'll both be the QBs next year.

My biggest concern for Saleh is how much did LaFleur learn from Shanahan?
Defense will be fine. He will lead the men just fine. With Douglas they will likely do a good job rebuilding the roster.
Curious to see how he navigates the offensive side/QB issue, but I get the sense he's paid a lot of attention the last few years and has ideas.
If I remember correctly and I might not, Mangini and Bowles were both welcomed hires but Gase was not. Almost everyone from day one knew the Jets had made a bad hire with Gase.

Ok, this is kind of a strange post. Of course no one can predict the future. I am basing my view that this was a "good" hire on the fact that Saleh has had success and his players love him.
The Jets have a past of hiring retread failed former head coaches whose players have quit on them (Kotite, Gase). So a promising coordinator is a step in the right direction for them.
But ultimately who cares? It's the Jets, whatever. Saying they did something good doesn't mean that the Giants did something bad.

Finding a QB is the easiest way to be considered a "good" HC because W/L is what determines if you are good are not and without a QB finding those Ws is quite difficult. For that reason I never love a non-offensive hire for a team without a QB. Lafleur has pedigree, but standing next to Kyle Shanahan does not necessarily make you the next Kyle Shanahan. Whether the Jets stick with Darnold or take Fields Saleh won't be the one developing the most important player on the team by a million miles. We have the same issue here with Judge. Judge can get everyone as prepared and fired up as he wants, if Daniel Jones isnt good the team wont be good. And Judge has no skillset to help Jones, same as Saleh has no skillset to help Darnold. Judge and Saleh are the HCs, but the most important football coaches in NY right now are Garrett and Lafleur.

Your correct. It’s a totally different skill set. All I’m saying is everybody is praising his defense. If your gonna brag about his defense, you have to show without talent, his defense was not so great. The jets don’t have talent.
The 49ers had a defense this year that was beset with injuries
Not to mention he’s bringing LaFleur who is part of pretty much the only offensive coaching tree that’s finding success without a top QB. The Mike Shanahan tree.
Great hire and who I wanted last year tbh.

Yeah, I liked Saleh after last year and I absolutely loved him this year.
LaFleur should bring good concepts and game plans to the Jets. But hard to call plays like Kyle shan-kanobi.
In 2018, the Niner fans couldn't wait to run Saleh out of town. Then he got an infusion of talent on D and bingo, he suddenly looked like a genius.
I'm not slamming his potential as a head coach, it just shows how thin the line can be between failure and success, and how fast things can sometimes turn.
Jets hire Salah - ( New Window )
lmao!!
BTW, MOST NFL coaches fail, so if you cynically say that every new HC hired is a "bad move," you will look correct 80%of the time down the road.

Oops, just noticed. Should read Mangini

Now what in the world would make you think that?
Players seem to like him and seems like a smart guy. Good luck to him.
