Contract actually gets me a little more excited. The fact he got north of 10m means he looked good throwing yesterday and that there was a legitimate market for him. If Kluber is on his game this could be huge.

He topped out at 91 in the workout. I assume the Yankees have good info on him because of their connections. His average fastball in 2018 was 91.5. His best year was 2015 when it was 93.5.

He’s a sinker baller right? Guys like that can be effective even when they lose a bit off their best heater

Cole, Severino, Kluber, German, Montgomery and Garcia/Schmidt/King/Nelson aren't elite on paper but workable I think.
I didn't see real crisp stuff from Schmidt, I have far higher hopes for Garcia.
IMO, this is good news longer term for the younger SP. Remember that every one of them (King, Garcia, Schmidt and others) all have issues with their prior IP workloads in that none of them has what would equate to a full season of MLB work- and add in the lost time over the last season.
Having a front 4 of Cole, Kluber, Montgomery and German allows the Yanks to keep the young guys in AAA for at least a couple months, control their workloads while still building up the IP stamina with an eye towards 2022.
Also, don’t sleep on Chacin who they brought in as a quiet FA on a minor league deal. He’s an experienced SP. Also remember that teams traditionally do not need a 5th SP regularly in April and sometimes into May. That will allow the Yanks to further regulate the loads on the young guys. If Chacin flops, it costs them next to nothing and cutting him doesn’t do anything long term. If he can at least be a passable 5th SP for a few months, they can prepare the young guys for 2022 and then phase out Chacin and explore where they are with the rotation in June/July when Severino comes back.
Is becoming a fucking idiot if he keeps Sanchez, a good catcher makes a huge difference, look what Girardi did for us when Torre made them dump Stanley who is 100 times better then Sanchez. This is a guy not wanting to admit he is wrong. Nobody to challenge his authority. Not good at all.
They have interest in Bradley. Probably trade Frazier for a pitcher?
That's not going to happen.
It has been reported that the Yanks are interested in Brantley. If they do end up signing him it is very possible that Frazier ends up as trade bait for a SP

You haven’t been paying attention. Hal is going to keep them under the luxury tax limit- and they are within several million of that mark as of today. Brantley will take them over the limit, while Frazier makes peanuts (just over $1M).
What you see now is likely what they enter the season with, except for maybe some minimum salary FA signed to minor league deals with “make the team or get released at the end of spring training” contracts.

I’m not paying attention? I’d suggest YOU need to pay attention. It doesn’t take much to look up the Yanks supposed interest in Brantley. And they are $20M under the luxury tax right now, NOT several million. $20 Million. Maybe DJ signing prevents them from signing Brantley in the end, but to suggest that I’m not paying attention is fucking laughable.
You could have simply said that you don’t think they would make that move now. But nope. You just can’t help yourself. Always have to be an arrogant shit bag.

It’s because I AM correct.
Before throwing insults and wild accusations, make sure you understand the numbers that you are using. The luxury tax is NOT simply made of the average value of the contracts, but also player benefits (such as hotel costs, etc.), players earning minimum salaries, and the 40 man roster players on split contracts.
The website I have linked below explains this well. Read the “Competitive Balance Tax” Section for 2021, go to the bottom of the spreadsheet and see the figures. Applying all the other factors that go into the luxury tax calculations, the yanks are just under $6M under the tax line as of today.
What also needs to be understood is that other teams are not taking on payroll from others, so the Yanks aren’t likely to be able to trade someone to cut costs unless revenues change dramatically in the next 9 months. That means that $6M is going to be budgeted for trades and upgrades over the season to come.
You can disagree if you want, but Hal has given a directive and that will drive Cashman’s decisions over the next 9 months. Yanks Payroll numbers - ( New Window )
interesting to see how the roster plays out and what the ultimate financial decisions are. I do not want them to trade Frazier or Andujar.... these guys are gonna be players and are under team control for a bit.
Kluber’s HR rates have been pretty solid in his career.
Solid deal, I like it. He hasn’t pitched much the last 2 years, but if healthy hopefully can recapture some of his old juju
Broke his arm two years ago. Said the shoulder was sore last year.
He is worth a chance.

No doubt, I just hope the gamble isn’t at the expense of more sure innings.

Wouldn't bet on that. He doesn't have a market and he doesn't want to retire.
And BC has said he wants him back.

He turned more to the sinker in 2018.

That's why it's an overpay to me.
Why not offer him about 5 mill. with incentives,
based on GS, and IP, etc. Hopefully he can stay healthy.
That's not going to happen.

There were several teams trying to sign Kluber. He wasn’t signing for some cheap ass incentive laden deal
