Browns and Saints for me. I simply cannot tolerate anymore 24/7 of Tom Brady ball washing by the media. I also have a buddy that is a Tampa Bay fan and he needs to be silenced. He’s incredibly annoying every season but as you can imagine, this season he has taken it to another level. Tampa must lose.
is simple: Do I want Brady again in the final mix or do I want the bountygaters to move on..
I’m leaning towards “we’re only going to score 17 points, ok, heh, heh, heh” because bountygate was inexcusable and shouldn’t be forgotten until Payton is no longer there, imv.
I want KC to win, because I don’t want Aaron Rodgers getting another ring..

The bounty gaters are long gone. This isn’t Warner and cards and favres Vikings. We’re over a decade removed from that.
However, the fun story lines today involve Mayfield leading his merry bunch of bandits into Buffalo and the Championship game and Tom Brady watching from his mansion!
Of course, that means probably a grand Hurrah for Brees next week in Green Bay.
Ultimately I think KC finds the way to win and so does Brady.

Saints move pass Bucs by a final of 31-24
Understood, but as long as Payton is there, I will always root against him.
this thread can stick to good playoff football discussion and not deteriorate into mudslinging between posters and their “Giants agendas.” Plenty of time this offseason after the Superbowl for that.
Thin their margins of victory have been? They haven’t beaten a team by even a TD since the victory over the Jets on Nov 1. Do we have a big upset possibility brewing here?

I’m interested to see that Bills D vs Mahomes next week
is going to be too much for the Browns Defense. I think Spags will get his defense to stop Cleveland running the ball, and the Browns simply can't get into a high score race with KC, who will "matriculate down the field" at will. The Chiefs will win a much closer game against Buffalo next week, IMO.
I'm not sold on the Tampa Defense, I think they will get exposed against New Orleans offense in the dome. This one will be relatively high scoring, but I think Drew Brees comes away with his last win, beating Brady and the Bucs. The Saints won't win in the frozen tundra of Lambeau field, though.
I parlayed browns +10 and under 57. Took Browns +400 on ML too. All the signs are there for a dud from Chiefs, been playing with fire all year and Nrowns are tough stylistically for them.

Pretty happy with this pace. Browns have defense to keep explosive plays in check. This next drive will be telling. Not sure why Browns deferred to a Reid coached team off a bye. Pretty much auto TD.
Shouldn’t be in the high 30s or low 40s at the end of the game. Browns guys be thinking about opening it up a bit too. Don’t need to fully panic yet but they have to open up playbook at least a bit.
This just shows me how bad Pitts was at the end of the season. Pitts is a team at the end, when they hang on with old guys like Ben who finally hit their end. Its like watching the end of the Celtics dynasty from the 1980's.
I guess the humans that Buffalo sacrificed into the volcano

Why? It’s very early. Browns best chance is to control the clock and pace with their run game. Wills out puts a dent in that. Ouch, can’t catch a break this weekend lol

have major weaknesses but are just able to jump ahead and demand so much fear and respect and inflict an overpowering aerial offense they can hide their shaky OL run game and defense.
Which is why you’re seeing it. You want to win this game you need to do it on offense, not lose it on defense. I think we see them be a little more aggressive that further the lead gets or time becomes an issue, but def not that territory yet.

Cleveland desperately needs a TD before the half.
Going to be tough to win this one without points here whether fg or td.
doesn’t make any sense to take away a TD and turn it into a change in possession, if he had the ball and it was a fumble just think of a different penalty in yards lost.
Holy shit that is absolutely a penalty on Sorenson
1. I do not think a fumble into and out of the end zone should be a touch back. It should go back to the spot of the fumble and awarded to the offense. No different than if he fumbled forward on the 30 yard line. They would bring it back.
2. I really do not like the helmet to helmet penalties. I have seen quite often that the offensive player is the one who initiated it OR he suddenly moved his head creating the contact. Throw the flag if it seems to be vicious and intentional, but that's it. Guys are playing football and you ARE going to have the occasional contact with helmets. Just look at the line of scrimmage and see helmet to helmet contact all day long.
It's too punitive to the offense. Give the offense the ball back at the twenty. Don't reward the defense.
I am not there with that. Offense has to control and break the plane under control. If they don’t and run out of field because of the end zone, then it’s a turnover. Back to the defense.
The offense can take one on the chin every once in awhile.
Not for that penalty. That totally distorts the game.
It only distorts the game because the offense fumbled. It should keep people from stretching out, just like a QB keeper where they extend the ball - if it is fumbled, the defense likely recovers.
For once, the offense can actually bear some burden. Extend the ball? Take a risk. If it doesn't pay off, you lose possession.

I love the helmet to helmet calls. And I'm fine calling them both ways if applicable.
But the offensive player is usually trying to protect himself, which is the purpose of wearing the helmet. A defensive player is almost always trying to use the helmet as a weapon to inflict pain. The game is called tackle football. You know...that thing you do when you use your arms to bring someone to the ground.
Sorenson wasn't trying to tackle Higgins. He was trying to hit him with his helmet. There is no other way to look at that.

If a player dives for a first down marker and the ball goes out of bounds. The offense keeps the ball. That's the way I see it this...

Exactly - could have used his arms to shove Higgins out of bounds
fine with the rule that it's a turnover if you fumble out of the back of the end zone. I simply think it was negated on that play by a helmet to helmet hit.
He ran to the locker room pretty well but he was clearly out of it for a bit. The protocol is meant to protect against that but if you take the test quick enough you can pass it (rugby makes you wait 10 minutes before they administer the test for that reason)
Mahomes is done next week as well due to the protocol?
Not necessarily, from wiki.
Post-game
After a concussion has occurred, the player must be monitored and examined on a daily basis in a training room by the team medical staff until fully cleared from concussion. Along with the continuous examination prior to a concussion, the player must meet standards that are in place by the league in order to return a game or contact practice. The player may not return to football activities until he has returned to his baseline cognitive function. Next, the player must go through a graduated exercise challenge, followed by a gradual return to practice and play. If player is feeling any setback or post- concussion symptoms, evaluation then starts from the beginning. Finally, the team doctor and an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant must both clear him for return to play.[40][38]
but if Reid didn’t tell Henne not to throw deep than he failed. I wouldn’t let Henne throw any long passes, especially with the way they’ve been picking up first downs. Awful.

\Completely agree. I mean I don't even understand who he was throwing to on that play

Hunt has been underused and have been way too right handed and wide running the ball. KC is a fast D. You can hurt them more between the Ts with physicality.

Rather than throw away and stop the clock. Browns will get it back with a 1:20 left and no TOs needing to run the field and score a TD. Will be exciting to say the very least. Good game.
But this is the Browns they aren't going to score having to go all the way down the field with minute and some change left and no timeouts when it can't pass block and don't have big place threats
Lol. Sorry. You guys aren't going to get your fetish Bowl this year with Cleveland and Buffalo going head-to-head in the championship game. Now you can only share on the Buffalo Bills.
That was stupid. Legit. The Browns aren’t going 75 yards in that situation. They certainly could go 50. Reid is still a terrible in game manager. Bills win by two scores next week. Calling it now. Even if Mahomes plays.

if Mahomes plays, in KC, the Bills will be hard-pressed to win, let alone by multiple scores.
Some people were saying it wasn't a big deal... that aged well. Anyway, cant win a game with a QB on a leash. You can only dunk and dink so much. At some point a throw of more that 10 yard is going to have to be called. Hope Mahomes is ok, concussions are no joke.
That crack back call before the int was awful too, plus they got to play Henne for a half, plus Butker leaving 4 points on the field. Not shedding a tear for the browns.

Neither do I. But the refs blew it as much as the Browns.

That damn soft shell zone was absolutely moronic...even when Henne entered!
They tried to go man and Hill torched them. The soft zone creates a turnover as well.
He absolutely got caught napping with the 3rd and long run to ice game. They had to be in man though, that doesn’t happen against zone with eyes on QB.
That damn soft shell zone was absolutely moronic...even when Henne entered!
Even moreso than when Patrick Graham ran it because Cleveland actually has horses
What horses do the Browns have on D? Garrett was playing all banged up. He was a shell of himself. What other horses do they grave? Denzel Ward and who? They weren’t very good this season on D.

There is (slightly higher than) zero chance BUF beats KC by two scores with Mahomes playing.
I still think Eli is a top 10 QB all time if he plays all or most of his career in a dome.
Would he have put up slightly better numbers? Sure, but what really keeps Eli out of that conversation is some of his post snap decision making that would literally pop out of nowhere resulting in picks. Weather has no effect there.
not sure how much of a delay there is, but I know the outcome of the play by watching my bets going up or down. I saw my payout drop $20 and said "yup,1st down"
Instead of pursuing this guy who has been solid for three seasons in NO, we traded draft capital for friggin Alec Ogletree. Didn't understand it then and now, with Ogletree who is a Jets backup!

I know the rules are what they are, but that looked a lot like a catch to me. This notion of a football move seems iffy. It's not applied to a sideline catch for example.

It would have been incomplete on the sideline too.
I don't think either of these teams beat the Packers in Lambeau, but who knows? I'm sure some random dude rooting for an NFC team said the same about us & Dallas in 1/2008.

It was, right up to the point he lost control of it.
He pleaded with the female ref, but she is absolutely horrendous
Watch her get the Super Bowl now, just like how we had to have an all African American officiating crew during the regular season. If you are going to do that at least put a good R not Jerome Boger.

That play was right in front of her. It only could have been clearer if they put the helmet on her and pulled the face mask.
Lol. She made an AWFUL call for the 2016 Ravens game. Her and I bonded well for that game. I was in the second row.
She once awarded the Redskins a fumble recovery even though the Browns not only came out of the pile with the ball, but in fact, there was never a pile in the first place. Just Duke Johnson standing next to the pile with the ball, but she was already pointing the other way
How Aikman seems to always just assume EVERY INT is the receivers fault? I think it was an option route and Kamara saw the hole deep in the zone and took it deep and i think Brees read it wrong (in my view). But Aikman every time he sees a QB angry just assumes it’s because the receiver must’ve ran the wrong route
just has been too diminished since the injury. There’s no arm there, he can’t throw with any zip anymore or accurately downfield and that was happening before the injury.
RE: I guess sentimentality towards franchise QB’s isn’t just the Giants..
Has a major revival, I wonder if Payton might try to get himself to Dallas in a year.
Despite their successes in draft last decade, Fontenot their Asst. GM is going to Atlanta, Brees has declined and is retiring and they’ve got a tight cap situation. Might be the end of an extended competitive cycle last 12 years and series of playoff runs for the Saints
Brees had a heck of a career, a 1st ballot HOF career
that play by Cook had Engram written all over it. God, I hope I never see him do that again in a Giants' uniform.
LOL
'The Engram Special':...Have a pass that was arguably catchable bounce off your stone hands right into the arms of the nearest safety or CB for a game killing turnover

It might be far better and easier for him (and Dak both) to bring Prescott to 'Nawlins.

Chiefs - Andy Reid's brain + Mahommes + speed + good enough defense. If I had to bet - I think they repeat

I'd take 100% of the QB's in the league over Lamar in the playoffs
That and Chubb's lack of concentration.

Good for the Browns though.
Yawn.
This is how you have to play them though. It’s just the communication in backend is gross.
I think last night's game was one of the most boring games I've ever sat through.
Dallas and Philly games in Philly from this year and 2019 were up there.
Carolina vs Arizona in the playoffs a handful of years back.

But it's too much. At least on the 3rd down Woods finally dialed up pressure to force the FG. He needs to have much more variety.

And that's also why Belichick doesn't want his players extending the ball like that.

Is anything a penalty for unnecessary roughness, but I don’t think targeting is an NFL rule, is it?
Looks as if we got off on the wrong foot.
Exactly. Getting drilled on the ear hole by the helmet caused it. That really sucks for Cleveland.
Yep. The hit is what caused the ball to come out.
Terrible miss.
How did they miss the Vikings DB interfere two years ago(3 years) in the playoffs?
Probably the ref was so intent on seeing if the ball got into the end zone and he was blocked he missed it. But geez

Does not matter. Initiated contact with the crown of the helmet.

Yep. Totally agree.
And only have three points to show for it...

Dude look at the replay. He speared him helmet to helmet. CLEAR AS DAY. Are you blind or dense?
Yep. Hopefully he goes the wayside of BradberryGlue and DannyDimes, and the other dupes who have been purged. He's a fucking clown
It's too punitive to the offense. Give the offense the ball back at the twenty. Don't reward the defense.

Extend his arms? Not ticky tack.

Agreed.
The offense can take one on the chin every once in awhile.
The offense can take one on the chin every once in awhile.
Not for that penalty. That totally distorts the game.
As if the game isn't tilted to benefit the offense enough? good God why even bother having a defense on the field anymore?
It's too punitive to the offense. Give the offense the ball back at the twenty. Don't reward the defense.
I am not there with that. Offense has to control and break the plane under control. If they don’t and run out of field because of the end zone, then it’s a turnover. Back to the defense.

Control and break the plane. Otherwise you are turning the ball over because you ran out of controllable field of play.

If a player dives for a first down marker and the ball goes out of bounds. The offense keeps the ball. That's the way I see it this...
Quote:
1. I do not think a fumble into and out of the end zone should be a touch back. It should go back to the spot of the fumble and awarded to the offense. No different than if he fumbled forward on the 30 yard line. They would bring it back.

Yes, you didn’t need to be a doctor to see that.
what is their replay guy looking at?
You are such a drama queen
The chiefs went fast and live that absolutely looked incomplete, he had to challenge it.

Hunt has been underused and have been way too right handed and wide running the ball. KC is a fast D. You can hurt them more between the Ts with physicality.
They can’t pass block for that. I think they are done, they need like 4 minutes to score TDs.
As Browns I should say.

I thought it was an excellent playoff game. Certainly better than what you normally see in college
That crack back call before the int was awful too, plus they got to play Henne for a half, plus Butker leaving 4 points on the field. Not shedding a tear for the browns.
Best post of the thread, except for all the ones I made.

Neither do I. But the refs blew it as much as the Browns.
They didn't have one guy in position to run up and meet him head on to stop him way sooner than they did on 3rd & 14

Even moreso than when Patrick Graham ran it because Cleveland actually has horses

They tried to go man and Hill torched them. The soft zone creates a turnover as well.
He absolutely got caught napping with the 3rd and long run to ice game. They had to be in man though, that doesn’t happen against zone with eyes on QB.

What horses do the Browns have on D? Garrett was playing all banged up. He was a shell of himself. What other horses do they grave? Denzel Ward and who? They weren’t very good this season on D.
He wasted a challenge on the Tyreek play + another TO later.
Kareem Hunt could not be tackled and for some reason he went back to Chubb.
He allowed his D Coordinator to go man when all they had to do was protect the sticks.
Just a poorly coached 4th quarter.
Well if 11 cracked ribs is a blessing. IDK, his arm still looks weak but he probably got a good rest.

There is (slightly higher than) zero chance BUF beats KC by two scores with Mahomes playing.
Anyone concerned he may have a bomb strapped to his chest?
Yes, that was a weak call.

We’ll see. Bills are much more disciplined defensively than Browns are. 38-27. Obviously weather can be a factor so my opinion may change.
Would he have put up slightly better numbers? Sure, but what really keeps Eli out of that conversation is some of his post snap decision making that would literally pop out of nowhere resulting in picks. Weather has no effect there.
If Mahomes is limited, yea... but they didn't look great last night.
really?

Elizabeth Murphy-Bunting is someone they should’ve drafted over Baker.
They had a chance to bury the game early and they couldn’t.
Based on the way their defenders get called out as being great, you'd think they'd have a dominant D.

Yes. Aside from Brady this team is totally overrated. If they manage somehow to win this game the Packers are going to annihilate them.

Devin White and their WR’s are worth the praise.
I hate to say it but Brady is not middle of the road, still. He can still be amazing, still throws a great ball.
guess what Tom, he's not James White.
no.. you are correct. That's what's going on here.
It’s their third game. Remember the Giants Cowboys third game in 2007 playoffs? Very few surprises by this point.
Packers offense is great. Their defense is okay. Both of these teams would have a pretty good shot IMO.
I know the rules are what they are, but that looked a lot like a catch to me. This notion of a football move seems iffy. It's not applied to a sideline catch for example.

It was, right up to the point he lost control of it.
It’s good to know that he still absolutely refuses to look back for the ball. Some things never change

That play was right in front of her. It only could have been clearer if they put the helmet on her and pulled the face mask.
She once awarded the Redskins a fumble recovery even though the Browns not only came out of the pile with the ball, but in fact, there was never a pile in the first place. Just Duke Johnson standing next to the pile with the ball, but she was already pointing the other way
Should have been demoted right after that.
He has been clutching and grabbing all night. Even the INT he grabbed Thomas as Thomas broke free. And he is yapping after every play.
Was gonna post the same thing. Almost a feeling of inevitability ... the Cook fumble was a gigantic turning point.
Agree. He seems to be settling in now.
You called it w/ Bucs forcing fumbles.
Agreed. Brees no horsepower left.
Despite their successes in draft last decade, Fontenot their Asst. GM is going to Atlanta, Brees has declined and is retiring and they’ve got a tight cap situation. Might be the end of an extended competitive cycle last 12 years and series of playoff runs for the Saints
