Remmers Doing the Job in KC

Samiam : 1/17/2021 5:21 pm
Not a loaded question. Not sure what this means but it must mean something. Remmers was a starter on the Giants last year and I don’t think they tried to re-sign him again. The line last year was pretty bad. Now, he’s a starter on a pretty good line on a very good team. I’m guessing that the Giants expected to sign an OT and have Solder so maybe that influenced their thinking. Still, the fact that the Giants OL last year was so bad with a player that is now contributing to a pretty good line must speak to the coaching or the organization or something. We’ve read that the OL is greater than the sum of its parts which would suggest that a team would not need 5 all stars to be good. Remmers starting on KC might prove that point. Or, it might prove that KC knows what it’s doing and the Giants don’t. Does any of this make sense?
I hear you.

But, it could simply mean he’s just a better fit there at the moment. Iirc, he had some back issues, correct? If so, whatever it might have been may have cleared up.
there is a lot more talent in KC

They can hide is faults. You can say thing about Solder
Remmers was awful last year

I thought Flemming played better this year (and he wasn't that great either).
Funny i just turn the game on and saw Henne big pass to kelce

I thought to myself what a great job the tackles did on that play. Didn’t realize at the time it was Remmers.

Tell me how you think they hide the faults on an OT?
Remmers wasn't good for the Giants
Jay on the Island : 1/17/2021 5:51 pm : link
but he wasn't awful either. He was very similar to how Fleming performed for the Giants. Remmers is only starting for KC due to an injury to their RT Mitchell Schwartz.

Doesn’t matter why he’s starting. My point is that he’s starting and the KC offense is pretty good. He stared on the Giants and the team sucked. Now, I understand they have Mahomes and we have Jones. But, why is it that KC can have an effective OL and develop a high scoring offense with a RT that was part of a putrid OL here. It must mean something.
Coaching does make a difference
Ben in Tampa : 1/17/2021 6:10 pm : link
That can’t be discounted. And the Shurmur Giants were one of the worst coached teams in the league, especially along the offensive line.
It really..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/17/2021 6:13 pm : link
doesn't have to mean that much. Remmers is a backup T in KC playing because of injury and he's had a year to recover from back issues that had been bothering him for the past two years.

A good line can hide a weakness and it might be that Remmers is starting to get back to form after having an injury that limited him

Maybe because Mahomes is so mobile he gets out of the way and makes plays. They have so many weapons somebody is almost always open and the ball gets to them.

Remmers was adequate. He is not a star. I think Fleming is just as good - well there is not much different between the two.

Coaching matters - a real lot - and the GIANTS have had dreadful coaching between Coughlin's dismissal and Judge's hiring.
Agree on Coaching

Watching the Bucs vs Saints game. When the Giants traded Pierre-Paul for a 3rd round pick, I thought it was a good trade. Now, watching him play, compared to BJ Hill, it was a terrible trade. A guy that can rush the passer is exactly what the team needs. I know he’s. 4-3 DE but guys that can get to the QB are pretty valuable. I’ll give you another. Flowers was a bad player, a horrible lineman. But, somebody got to him and he became a pretty good guard. I think he’s better than any guard on the Giants. It’s bullshit that a team with so many holes had players that could help now but gave them away for nothing or virtually nothing without getting the most from their talents. Piss poor coaching* in my opinion.
It is the Owner and the Front office
Ike#88 : 1/17/2021 7:46 pm : link
that have destroyed the Giants. Barkley instead of Josh Allen. No good pass rushers. Pat Shurmur. B J Hill. Solder. Beal. FMH
He played poorly for us coming off surgery
BillT : 1/17/2021 9:05 pm : link
Hard to resign him hoping for better. KC benefited.

Let’s be honest, if the Giants had chosen Allen over Darnold this board would have exploded. Also our opinion of Allen would probably be different if he was playing on the Giants instead of on the Bills.

His improvement can be from a number of things; better talent, healthier, coaching, scheme. Sometimes guys fit better elsewhere. Collectively our 99 line was unbearably poor and we ditched everyone besides Petitgout and Stone. Oben and Gragg looked terrible here, but went on to have pretty good careers. I doubt any of us watched the Chiefs line in detail to know the reason.
He was pretty awful for Giants. Looked decent today and
LBH15 : 1/17/2021 11:38 pm : link
that kind of chafes me and it should all of you. Something about OL that put on NYG jersey seem to get worse for some reason. I wish I was kidding too.

Need that to stop.

Had a bad injury to his back last year that took him out quite a bit.

That's why they let him go.

Been saying this. People are crediting Gettleman for some of our picks finally coming good, but I reckon it's the coaching that's made the difference, e.g. Peppers.

Yes, I know Peppers came over in that trade, but you get what I mean.
What's surprising about an OL playing good football for an Andy Reid

Yes, coaches here have stunk for a while.

LOL. Wait - so the players aren't that good, but the coaching is doing it?? You may want to look to see what Bradberry and Martinez did before they were Giants.
He has talent
PaulN : 1/18/2021 9:56 am : link
At QB, WR, RB, and all al g that line, sure he can hold up a lot better in that situation. We had a bad situation here last season, poor coaching us also not a stretch to surmise from Shurmurs stint here. Time to move on, we no longer have that staff here.
Remmers
SLIM_ : 1/18/2021 10:39 am : link
was playing better than Solder last year (and Halapio).

I think the biggest problem with the Giants offensive line in the recent past is that you had proven average players who became scapegoats for playing to their level of skill because we just didn't have above average players.

- Remmers is an example of that. He is a journeyman starter in the league. When he is your 5th starter, your line may be OK. When he is your 3rd starter, that leads to problems.

- In my mind John Jerry was like that. He was a guy that you could probably get by. He was crucified here because the reality is that he was the 3rd best player on our line.

If Remmers was our RT at the end of this year, he would probably be our 4th best lineman behind Thomas, Gates, and Zeitler. Some incremental improvement.
