Brees fan, but he had a good career especially when you consider the Chargers let him leave due to suspected shoulder issues and Miami signed Culpepper over him because of the same.
He lasted a long time and played at a high level after that.
Saints have been so competitive for a number of years.....
At all the Brees/Saints hate. I get it, they've been an NFC contender for a 15 years but if you love football it's hard not to like Brees IMO. The guy was absolutely incredible for a long time and has done a lot of good in NO. Just seems like an odd guy to be hated around here.

I agree. Great player. I don't have any animus towards Brees or the Saints.
The Saints are just tiring to hear about. All that hype every year and they've only won one Super Bowl in the 15 years that Brees was in New Orleans. Plus the same story about how they played in Giants Stadium on the road/at home. The Bounty Gate. The bad call against the Rams. Just annoying.
I don't know. With the Giants being bad for nearly a decade, I've been on kind of a "fuck everyone" tour and you know what? Daddy like.
He has had an amazing career. That injury this year was brutal.
He still had accuracy, but his ball has lost a lot of zip the past 2 years.
He wasn’t very accurate this year and probably the reason he’s hanging them up. Obviously he’s athletic and can do all the mental stuff, but hard to play in that 30 yard box when you aren’t one of the most accurate QBs in league.
End of the day, he's one of the great QBs, but you can't help but think he lucked out playing at least 10 games a year in a dome and it always felt like he had great receiving backs who helped him rack up the passing yards with easy YAC. (Bush, Sproles, Thomas, now Kamara).
He’s not in aaron Rodgers, Brady, Peyton territory. Great qb but not THAT great. And he’s annoying to boot. So are the Saints.
This is where I stand as well. Played majority of his career in a dome which somewhat negated his biggest weakness of arm strength. Excellent QB that gets a lot of positive media attention because he's a nice guy, but not in the rarefied air of QBs like Brady, Montana, Manning etc.
He’s Also lost yet another home playoff game. He can go away now. But first please celebrate another individual passing record and stop the game for 20 minutes.

I was going to add that. Brees and Payton have lost a lot of playoff games were they were the favorite and he's got 1 playoff road win in his career.
What a journey. From a second round pick for San Diego to a major shoulder injury to the Saints taking a major gamble on him to a SB to...eventually...Canton, OH.
Good career? He’s hanging them up tops in yards, completions, and 2nd in TDs — all time. 58 games over .500, and a ring. He’s had all time career. Unequivocal first ballot HOFer.
Good career? Wouldn't take him over Eli? Come on...
Really strange. When the Giants were good, fans were really critical of the team and players. Now that they completely suck, the homerism has gone wild.

I think a lot of fans focus solely on the Giants, and that may have impacted their sense of scale relative to what is going on elsewhere in the NFL...particularly among the top level teams.
Fuck the Eagles. Him and the Saints were the best bet in the NFC 3 years ago to bump them with Rodgers out. Not Case Keenum and some wimpy Vikings defense.
if it's one year too late or if that rib injury killed his season, but the only times I saw him was in the last couple of games and it looks like he could barely throw the ball over 20 yards.

You’d think BBI was full of homers reading this, there is a large portion of posters here who are realists and some always negative. A lot of people here won’t even credit Judge or acknowledge any progress made in 2020.
And I agree fully, Eli wasn’t as good as Brees. I also feel more bullish with each passing year about how good Eli & Coughlin were. And if Eli wasn’t as good as Brees (which he wasn’t), what does it say about the Giants organization which built two Super Bowl winning teams around him. It’s been getting more common here to rip on the Giants for the last 30 years because of lack of consistent, playoff success. I feel the opposite, as each year passes and I see elite HC/QB combos fail to get that second title, I appreciate more what the Giants accomplished. People actually think the Giants wasted Eli’s career.

What a terrific and on-point post, imo..FMiC has been absolutely correct imv. Some here (do we really need to identify them?) would rather be right, than have us win and prove them wrong. Their mantras? “You guys can’t take objectivity. Instead you’d rather drink the Kook-Aid.”
Giant fans use their objectivity to hide the fact they really just
..it is sort of like alcoholics ... sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to acknowledge ther is a problem. And yes there is a problem. It has to do with Gettle , #6 and #2. Not even close to competing and never will.
And brees better than Eli pff. Who has more rings?
Good career? Wouldn't take him over Eli? Come on...
Really strange. When the Giants were good, fans were really critical of the team and players. Now that they completely suck, the homerism has gone wild.
Fans also know what happened under Eli. Two SB wins and 2 SB MVP's. So while there are a lot of great QB's in this Era, people always want to qualify it with Eli being pushed below some of the other QB's rather than just realize there were several accomplished QB's.
What I do know is that despite making the playoffs much more consistently than the Giants did, Eli will have more Lombardi's than several of his contemporaries who are considered much better.
Exactly. And it’s become more common to criticize the Giants based on their last 30 years which is absurd. As I said about, with each passing year I become more impressed with Eli, Coughlin & the organization in how they took advantage of the Eli years.
I think if you went back to 2014 say, and blind polled Giants fans, and asked if they’d rather have Drew Brees or Manning moving forward, Brees would win.
I think retirement and the benching controversy have been kind to Manning’s legacy, and covered up a lot of the the frustrations many fans felt while he was playing.
Rings aren’t the only factor for me. I think Manning had a better career and was a better quarterback than Aikman. Just like I think Drew Brees was a better quarterback and had a better career than Eli Manning.
I’m sure Cowboys fans wouldn’t trade the Aikman years for the Manning years. Just like I wouldn’t trade Manning years for the Brees years.
At any rate, it’s a good barometer to know who’s a serious football fan. If someone thinks Brees had a good, not great career, I know to avoid a serious football conversation with them.
He lasted a long time and played at a high level after that.
I think he was a perfect fit for New Orleans with Sean Payton. I just hate them lol.

a great career, not a good one. Semantics, perhaps.

Haha. I hate them too.
The guy will be in the broadcast booth next season for sure
There's one reason I don't like him.
Good enough for me.

I've had a bug up my ass about the Sean Payton/Brees Saints since 2011 when they not only destroyed us but ran up the score late in the 4th
I don't know. With the Giants being bad for nearly a decade, I've been on kind of a "fuck everyone" tour and you know what? Daddy like.
There is plenty to dislike about Brees, just like everyone else.
Brady had a good one too.
Joe Horn. The Superdome being our house of horrors. Bountygate.

Brady is going to take a firm lead on almost every QB record now too...

Yep. Didn't take longer than a day for him to fold like a cheap lawn chair and start groveling for forgiveness
There's one reason I don't like him.
Good enough for me.
Nice take. Totally reasoned and logical. /sarcasm

Not sarcastic. Fuck em.

It was Brees's fault that the NO defense choked to Minnesots in 2017 after he gave them the lead with 25 seconds left?
