I am glad Garretts back. It is better than Jones having to learn another new system. It will also make it easier if their is another shortened preseason and practice time.
I think Pep Hamilton played a good part as QB coach though too in Herberts development and comfort levels. Will be interesting if he stays. He’s apparently under consideration for few OC jobs.
While I don't think I would have cried to see him go, I also don't think he is/was as bad as others make him out to be. I think he is a better OC than HC, first of all. I also would like to judge him with even decent talent on hand before writing him off. Let's see what Gettleman hands him and see a full off season (assuming we have one). The same goes for the rest of this staff.

Well put. I could take it or leave it if Garrett went to LA, but the idea he's one of the worst OC's around is just more whining by the usual crowd who thinks everything we do won't yield returns until 2030.
Some people are negative on everything. I think he's a smart guy who knows what he is doing. He was limiting turnovers and increasing TOP. I think the game plan was a joint decision between him and Judge.
I also think for stability its good that Jones spends another season with the same system.

The Giants conceded fewer points than Buffalo, KC, and Green Bay. They conceded only two more points than Tampa.
The Giants went 6-10. Those four teams are playing this weekend to go to the Super Bowl. Why? Because with the exception of KC they all outscored the Giants by 200+ points. KC outscored them by 193 points.
You want to win in the NFL in 2021? It's not about controlling time of possession or establishing the run - it's about creating explosive plays through the passing game to score touchdowns. The lone exception is Baltimore, who creates explosive plays through the run game.
Dan Duggan mentioned it a couple weeks ago...it was strange that the Giants' defense was designed to force opponents to string together 10-12 play drives to score points, but the Giants' offense also seemed designed to need 10-12 play drives to score points.
10 players threw 30+ TDs. Jones threw 11. Can't compete like that.
I share concerns with you about Jones, but I’m curious as to what you would do? I’d like a stronger backup QB brought in - I personally like Brissett.
But, are you advocating cutting losses with Jones now? Trade him for draft picks and draft a QB at 11? Does that really make the most sense?
I’d give Jones a third year with a stronger backup.
My post was more about Garrett, who I absolutely would not have back as the OC.
Regarding QB, I like signing Brissett or Tyrod Taylor... someone who can both push Jones a little harder than McCoy but can also be a running threat if Jones goes down.
But even doing that, I'd scout the quarterbacks in this draft hard. If there's one there at #11 that you like, take him and move Jones. My expectation (especially if Garrett is OC) is that we'll be QB shopping after 2021, so I'd just get the process started a year earlier if the opportunity arises.
what i don't understand about football coaches in general is you basically have everyones playbook via film. how much of a playcallers success is the play itself vs. personnel and timing of the call?
Also guess they didn’t want to wait a few weeks for Daboll.

Or they saw Daboll's gameplan last night... ;)

Well it's the Chargers. Their promary motivation might have been the cost savings of Staley, since he won't need moving expenses.

Give him a full off-season....let see the other offenses...
With some understanding of what they have...he can build a better system....and not everyone starts from square one.

That’s a big blow to the Rams. He really helped reinvigorate that D. Wonder who he brings in as OC.

How many times did we see that play....rolls eyes.
He should be fired now that he is no longer a candidate for a HC gif.

Not negativity. It's just the truth.

Apparently you guys who love Garrett don’t watch Chiefs games.
I think there is also the Dak factor. Garrett received a lot of credit getting Dak ready to play when Romo went down.
So maybe they saw an opportunity to connect Garrett with Herbert and help take Herbert to the next level...

despite him being only a year removed from a 9 year head coaching stint. And personal connections in LA may have been a factor.

They also saw Jones go from 25+ TDs to 11. So...
