I remember years ago he was named interim head coach of the Dolphins after Philbin was fired, and the players really responded to him. Nice to see him get a real shot.
I was hoping the Giants would have looked at him last offseason because he did a great job with a disaster of a locker room in Miami. A bit of a difficult situation with Stafford’s health and that Defense was poor, but Campbell seems like the type of coach who could make something out of it
He's also the Saints assistant head coach since 2016. I think he's being undersold as a TE coach in the title.
He also served as interim HC with Miami in 2015.
Campbell was a favorite of mine when he was with the Giants. He was a hell of a blocking TE and in 2002 his blocking helped the rebuilt OL overachieve and allowed Shockey to run more routes. I was very disappointed when he left for the Cowboys in free agency because he wanted to be more involved in the passing game. Unfortunately for him the Cowboys drafted Jason Witten that offseason.

This should be a good hire but the Lions are still the Lions. Campbell should have gotten a job long before this after the job he did at Miami. In retrospect, he would have been better for the Giants than McAdoo and Shurmur.
I don’t know why it took so long. Maybe he was not a good interview or maybe he did not have the “coordinator” title in his background.
If I'm a Lions fan I'm at least excited to see my football team again.
He used a lot of Judge's rhetoric
He certainly did, but not nearly as eloquent as Judge was. That press conference was ridiculously long! The reporters didn't want to get off this ratings gold mine.

It's funny watching these new HCs' press conferences and how they all use these same tough-minded football cliches, and everyone seems to take that as proof that "this guy is impressive." Haha like as though saying these things has anything to do with actually winning games. As if other coaches are like: Oh! Why didn't I think of that? Punch you in the nose for 60 minutes. Genius. Now we can win a Super Bowl! It's also interesting to think about how much of hearing that tough rhetoric goes into the Owner's decision to hire the guy? Considering the kind of vetting that's done for so many other jobs in this country, it's just funny that NFL HC seems to mostly be more or less about just walking around the facility for a couple hours and seeing if you share similar knowledge of football cliches as the owner.

People love catchphrases and hearing what they want to hear.
Rumored to be looking at Steelers WR Coach Ike Hilliard as OC. He and Campbell were teammates with the Giants!
That's the thing with this hire, for a young guy, his rolodex must be huge.
And Leg I agree with you on that, but that isn't really Dan Campbell. He's doing Oklahomos in his first practice as Dolphins coach. I'm not even sure they are allowed anymore.
Yes, they hired Brad Holmes from the Rams a few days ago.

I know some posters wanted him in the mix to replace Shurmur.
Some kudos to Detroit for trying something different...

Agree - except they are already taking some heat for the GM hire
