RJ becoming an all-star caliber player unless he develops an above average 3 pt shot. Aside from freaks like Dwayne Wade, pre-injury Derrick Rose and maybe a handful of others...the outside shot is key.
that you have to be a good 3 pt shooter in order to be an elite player. The team needs 3 pt shooting yes, but not every player needs to be elite from outside the arch.
To me it's much more vital that RJB be a good defender. I am so done with these guys that score 18-20 and give up 21 pts a game.
there are encouraging signs that RJB will improve his 3pt shooting. For one thing, he's a hard worker. Two, his FT shooting and drives have improved, meaning, the guy has absorbed the new coaching he's receiving.
I mean guys, cmon, it's 12 fucking games. The kid was playing for a HC that should be a college ASST coach last year. He's 12 games in, playing better, and some of you can't wait to write the book on him. This isn't a sprint.
yeah i dont get why people are so eager to say this is him...
and that he will most likely not get any better. The focus is almost always on his negatives. But yeah most people are just still upset he isnt Zion or Morant. That said if we had Zion people would complain that he is an injury risk who relies solely on his athleticism and that his lack of a 3pt shot will be a problem.

well it's not a theory that MOST elite wings are in fact good 3 pt shooters, it's kind of a fact. Of course there are exceptions...but not a lot. Maybe he becomes lethal from mid-range, but that's a lot easier said than done.

Yea that’s fair. Just want to see his D continue to improve and be a consistent mid range scorer, for now.

To be fair, the last ELITE 3 that didnt have a three ball but fits your description was Pippen. For a few years he couldnt shoot from 3 at all. In fact he didnt start consistently start shooting over 30% from 3 until year 7....when he was 30 if my math is right.
Soooo the 3 point shooting small forward, while common now, never held much permanence.
and here's my almost weekly reminder we drafted 9th that year in part because guys like Courtney Lee, Beasley, and Jarret Jack just had to get big minutes.

Jimmy Butler Link - ( New Window )
Butler still isnt a very good 3 point shooter

He won't be Pippen. But he doesn't have to be that great. Pippen was probably the best defending wing ever.
Jimmy Butler is a guy that comes to mind.
