this off-season are what to do with Nate Solder and Kevin Zeitler. Both carry 2 of the top 3 highest cap numbers on the roster heading into 2021, and cutting both could save the Giants over $22m in cap space (if they choose to designate Solder as a post June 1st cut).
At the same time, cutting Zeitler leaves a gapping whole at RG, and Solder could easily be pencilled in as the starting RT and would be an improvement over what the Giants had there this past season. It will be intriguing to see what they decide to do with both players this off-season.
But Andrew Thomas is the best lineman on this team. By this time next year, it won’t be fairly close either.
Not in 2020. Gates had a brief rough start but was a rock. Thomas really struggled for much of the first half of the season. His upside is much greater than Gates, but Gates was consistently the better player in 2020.
Unsure on Lemeuix long term but he did improve the ground game. A strong offseason for him will really make this line go up. Thomas and Gates and definitely feel good about heading forward.
Peart is a question mark. I hope he is the future at RT.

The ground game improved, but I don't think it is enough unless his pass blocking substantially improve. You win by passing the ball, not running it.
if Covid didn't have something to do with the reduction in playing time for both Peart and Hernandez. For each one of them going on the Covid IR tied directly to a reduction in snaps for the rest of the year.
Its been mentioned that Covid hits larger individuals harder and I'm wondering if they never quite got back to 100%.
I loved: "the Giants had no ground game early in the season outside of Daniel Jones running for his life." Great line. I'm still laughing as I type.
Love Gates. Reminds me of a Seubert/Diehl type. But I leave him at C. SO nice not to see the NT at our QBs feet every pass play.
Thomas really impressed me. He struggled early and improved in season and is a a two way LT. ANd both these guys are nasty! I love that Thomas played on the bad wheel all year. I feel really good about the LT and C spots for years to come barring injury.
is the other question. Does Dave DeGuilmo(sic) stay or not.
Considering Judge's history with Jeff Stoutland I would not be surprised if DeGuglielmo accepts some sort of "Senior Offensive Assistant" title and Stoutland becomes OL Coach.
Eric, curious what you’d think the best course of actions to improve the league-worst pass blocking would be. Would you upgrade the players or hope things evolve?
point that I wish I had included is that when the OL played well, the Giants won.
This seems to support Sy's argument that the team should continue to focus on the OL.
I think picking at #11 truly needs to be BPA. The Giants are not set anywhere. Whether it be defense or another piece on the OL, nothing should be discounted.
Daniel Jones is the long-term starting QB, they need massive improvement from this group. I’m happy to say that I was completely wrong about Nick Gates. Thomas had ups and way downs, but I’m fairly confident in him going forward. The other 3 spots are questionable. I think I’d like Zeitler more if he was cheaper and younger. I’m not sure you can go into a season hoping Matt Peart will work out. And I don’t think the 2021 starter at left guard is on the roster right now.
talk about cutting Zeitler to save cap space. It leaves a big hole at right guard. The one thing that never gets mentioned is moving Hernandez there. If I recall didn't he play right guard in college?
Additionally, Bobby Skinner and I don't know what credentials he has except he does a good job breaking down the Line, wonders out loud why Hernandez was replaced by Lemieux.
start of the COVID season - what the Giants got from the offensive line towards the end of the season seems reasonable to expect going into next season.
I like Zeitler - and think Eric's evaluation of him was very fair - but it just makes too much sense to cut him and save the $12 mil when you can just slide either Shane L. or Will H over to the side. I don't think your losing much in level of play...but your gaining a lot cap space by making that move.

Peart rolled his ankle in the first game back from COVID-IR. I think had a lot to do with it.
that I forgot to add was how healthy this group really was all year.
Yes - good call - that was a miracle.
However, 2 players - Hernandez and Peart both contracted COVID and both players were not nearly as good when they got back (in my opinion).
Hopefully both players and regain form prior to next season - the COVID is no joke and it will be interesting to see what kind of long term effects this disease has on professional athletes long term. Hopefully there is none.

Following up on the above, the #Giants and interim OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo did have talks about him possibly staying on a permanent basis but the sides were unable to reach an agreement, sources say. So Joe Judge & Co. will be looking elsewhere.

I think so, Deguglielmo was reportedly Judge's first choice until Garrett convinced Judge to hire Colombo.
He was hired at Michigan State by Bobby Williams, who also coached with Judge at Alabama and whose son, Nick, is on the Giants coaching staff.
This seems to support Sy's argument that the team should continue to focus on the OL.

Yeah, I don't use the word "miraculous" a lot, but in this case it was justified.
The guy had 14 padded practices and wasn't even the starter for a good chunk of "camp".

I wouldn't be opposed to an O-linemen somewhere between rounds 2-4 every year.
