Do they continue to mold their entire offense to function around Lamar? Do they pay Lamar in excess of $30M per year? I’m not so sure. That offense can win double digit games and make the playoffs, but I don’t think they’ll ever win a Super Bowl playing like that.
also have some tough contract decisions to make outside of QB. They've already cut Ingram and Griffin, as expected, but they have several other moves that aren't so easy to make

Indeed. LJax is so unusual I really don't know how you come up with the "right" price. He isn't a great passer, but he's a great runner. And he's great at scoring points. Yet, there is a reasonably good chance he has a short shelf life...A very tough call.
I thought Tyler Huntley looked pretty good, btw, on Saturday when he did came in for LJax.
I feel bad for the man. All the talent in the world, but just couldn't stay on the field. I really thought he was going to own the NFC East for a decade there in 2012.

I think you build it around the concept of a "running QB" and make sure you have capable backups.
Then, like a RB, you don't really resign Lamar when his contract is up, you move on to the next guy.
We're in uncharted territory though so I'm not 100% on this being correct.

Shanahan destroyed his future when he put him back into that playoff game vs Seattle with a knee that was already damaged. One of the most despicable moves I've seen a coach make

It wasn’t just injuries that hurt RGIII. Once defenses had tape on him they attacked his weaknesses and RGIII wasn’t good enough to adjust.
About DJ... he’s taken some hellacious shots and the SOB keeps coming back. Let’s get this guy an offense ffs... oh yeah wouldn’t Ming RG3 as a backup ;)
or does become some ones backup. In this day and age a vet back up maybe looking at vet minimum to stay in the league. There is going to be a lot of players being cut. The richer owners will take advantage like the Jags.
It really is a crap shoot to know who can move up to the NFL, and who can't. Its more than just success and winning in college, its also having the right skillset.
have such a short run? In the games against the Giants his first few seasons, I thought he was a better version of Randall Cunningham who would be a thorn in the side of the NYG for a decade-plus. What happened to him?

I really think Shanny ruined his program in a horrible decision to play him hurt.

It was all smoke and mirrors really. He can run the read/option like he did on his 1st year with Washington but that’s all he’s capable of. And he can’t do that for long because he can’t hold up to the beating he takes doing it. Amazing athlete but not an NFL QB.

He is not, and was not an NFL QB. He came into the league with running ability and for whatever reason defenses struggled to figure out how to defend him in his first year.
Once they figured it out, his career was over. Has nothing to do with injuries. Even when he got healthy he was not effective.
After his rookie year, RG and his father demanded Shanihan change the play book and stop the RPO. He wanted to be a drop back QB like Tom Brady. His father is quoted as saying "Show me a running QB, I'll show you a losing QB".
They forced Shanny to change the playbook, with Snyder's blessing. That's why the took Kirk Cousins in the 4th round. It went downhill from there..

To be fair - he never was "healthy" in the sense of being able to run like he did before.
The main point is that he wasn't a QB who could play from the pocket. Once his ability to run was gone, he was a subpar QB. Some guys can refine their game enough to stay in the pocket when their legs fade. Those that can't fail.
Randall Cunningham was one who had the arm talent to still be effective when his legs were fading.

GMan - I think RGIII and Cousins were taken in the same draft
I remember during his rookie year, many on here, NOT some,

Looked decent when he came in last week IIRC. This move doesn’t surprise me at all. They have a cheaper, younger option for equal/greater level of play in Huntley.
The main point is that he wasn't a QB who could play from the pocket.
That is essentially why I said he was not an NFL QB.
He was and is a college QB. Even today's NFL QBs who excel with their legs also must have the ability to stand in the pocket, read defenses, and deliver the football.

Oh, I agree. But if he still had the ability to run, he'd be a weapon that would cause defenses to have to adjust to.
I think his ceiling always was a poor man's Lamar Jackson because he was really poor at reading defenses and being able to throw the ball when needed.
I loath the Skins/WFT but I remember watching the playoff game with my dad when he was clearly hurt and Shanahan not keeping him out and basically wrecking him. Thought it was awful at the time and that never changed

Yep. I think this may be one of the worst things i recall seeing happen to a player
Despicable. Was glad he could earn some money with Baltimore these past few years.

Yell, "NO" before clicking the link because they thought that the OP was suggesting signing him as a back up? Lol
