Not all 18 candidates got interviews, and some were speculative, but wow! The reporters will try to spin this as due diligence, but have to wonder if they got spurned by candidates in demand, or if the job isn’t that desirable.
It sure seems like they have some egg on their face with everything that transpired this season.
Most recent names:
Dennis Allen, New Orleans DC
John Fassel, Dallas ST coach
Nick Sirianni, Indianapolis OC
Kellen Moore, Dallas OC
Josh McDaniels, New England OC
Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay DC
Eric Bieniemy, Kansas City OC
Other candidates:
Brandon Staley, Los Angeles DC
Duce Staley, Philadelphia RB coach
Brian Daboll, Buffalo OC
Joe Brady, Carolina OC
Ryan Day, Ohio State HC
Mike Kafka, Kansas City QB coach
Jerod Mayo, New England LB coach
Robert Saleh, San Francisco DC
Arthur Smith, Tennessee OC
Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma HC
Luke Ficklell, Cincinnati HC
According to reports, Howie Roseman seems to prefer Josh McDaniels, but Jeffrey Lurie has some concerns. McDaniels is the front runner at this point in time.. Apparently Lurie is really intrigued by Duce Staley, and he is certainly a favorite among players and fans. He has received text messages from players with their support for Staley. With that said, both Roseman and Lurie have reservations about his coaching experience.
On the one hand - you you miss out on the hottest, seemingly most desirable candidates. On the other - you get to cast a wider net and hear guys out. Hopefully it fails!
I would much rather a job like the Jets or Jaguars, taking over a real bad team with a better cap situation and lower expectations. The Eagles job has potential disaster written all over it.

Houston job is still open, but Watson's antics and Bill O'Brien gutting the future of the franchise don't exactly make that job desirable
1. Over the cap
2. Aging DL
3. Aging OL
4. Crappy QB with bloated contract
5. 2nd year QB that was up-and-down (potential QB controversy if rumors about Wentz not being liked by teammates are true)
6. Not a great draft position to get their future QB (plus 4/5 above) since at least 2 will be off the board
IMHO they need to blow it up and do a complete rebuild.

You forgot meddling ownership and owner/GM conflict as it pertains to the QB situation. My question is how the Hurts pick was even approved if the owner was that gung ho about Wentz? Usually with the premium picks the owner weighs in because those players will be the face of the franchise.
Note that there are two Staley's on the list.

It has the feel of a Pat Shurmur type and tenure (2 years tops) until they clear the Wentz situation one way or another, get Cap into cleaner condition and see if they could draft better.

would be an excellent choice, but WTF do I know?

👍🏿👍
I was thinking the same thing. 18 candidates and Garrett doesn't get an interview? Ouch.
Had around 8 TV's set up for the draft last year,it looked like you were walking into a Best Buy. A Carson Wentz poster in the office, and now, 18 coaching candidates.

Ha ha, I see what you did there.
The other intrigue would be his relationship with Howie as he would want more power than they gave Pederson. Howie is getting trashed locally for his role in the team’s demise, bad drafting, etc. Roseman also has been accused of having too much power at Pederson’s expense such as making decisions on who is activated on game day!
where the ownership and GM above you told the person formerly in the position to commit an unethical act that alienated all the team under your direction... and then hung you out to dry as the fall guy when the public including numerous prior top flight employees was outraged?
Well that's fairly incoherent but I hope y'all see the point?

Worked with Mahomes, and if it's Hurts at QB, there's a similar style
Been on Andy Reid's staff and Andy's recommendation would be given great weight...unless if Pederson left a bad taste in Lurie's mouth on that front

well....the Mara agreed to bench Eli, and Then He fired the Coach and the GM because they benched Eli
I am not saying they are a very desirable landing spot at this point, but I have read ways they can overcome the Cap situation especially if they keep Wentz.

Even if they cut Wentz they still have cap issues. Also appears to be some real division among the GM/Owner regarding who the QB should be. It is not quite as bad as Houston because you at least have draft picks, but any legit head coaching candidate might prefer to stay put and wait to see what next year brings unless the Eagles really make it worth their while.

not one assistant will ever turn down a HC interview, at the very least you could use it as leverage to get some money from your current employer if they think there is a legitimate shot to lose you. In addition, it puts your name out there as a HC candidate. Whether they want the job is another question; I am sure that a guy like McDaniel realizes with BB not leaving, the bridges he burned with his behavior in Denver and spurning Indy, and the Pats offense without Brady, he might have to take this job if he wants another HC gig. The Eagles may luck out in that regard with McDaniels if he is good as people think he can be. I think a lot of candidates will want to know if they could work with the GM and go into the interview and ask lots of questions in the regard. There are reports that Pederson did not even control who was Active or not on gameday. I think a lot of potential candidates would be scared off if they interview and that turns out to be true. So, there could a host of reasons why the number is so large.
Why?
And if they land McDaniels (who had been considered a top choice in previous years) or another prime candidate, then five minutes after the new HC is named, no one will care how many others were considered during the process.

What he was told was going to happen and what did happen were different. Hence they got fired.
