Martin Mayhew new Washington Football Team GM

Saquads26 : 1/21/2021 8:01 pm
"Martin Mayhew, who played in Washington before becoming an executive for the 49ers and Lions amongst others, will be named the new general manager of the Washington Football Team, as ESPN’s John Keim reported."
He also worked for us a few years ago

Hurney. Guess that was a false report.

From all the reports sounds like Rivera is at the top of the pyramid and Mayhew and Hurney will report to him.

Mayhew is a personnel guy and in SF is regarded as a cerebral, architect type.
So now the GMs are hired by and then report to the head coach.

I like RR but this inversion approach is strange. It will be interesting to watch it play out. Then again maybe this is how everything will work in Washington this year.
Is this really such a bad situation in Washington?

Seems like there is a lot to like on that roster. They absolutely need to solve for their QB issues but they may be a pretty tough competitor next season if they do and can add a few more pieces. Would think another Wide Receiver, Tackle and Corner will go a long way.

Sitting at #19 in the Draft, Washington could make a move up in Round 1 if they see a QB worth taking. Or maybe they just try to add the pieces above and go with another 1-year fill in at QB and try to address that in 2022. Will be a lot of QB changing hands with lots of open jobs to fill this offseason.

I’m not sure about that. This is a new age for WFT unfortunately. Heard in interview with what is essentially their GM of the business side of things and it sounds like a completely new day over there. I think we see a lot less of Snyder’s hands over everything after his minority owners essentially tried to force a coup and he was getting a ton of heat from the rest of the owners how he was running the franchise. Hopefully this all fails and after things blow over Snyder goes back to being Snyder, but it certainly feels like they’ve turned the corner after decades of incompetence.
What happened

with the Giants? He was Director of Football Operation for one year? I don't remember if there was a story there or not.
I'm talking..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/22/2021 9:44 am : link
about the way this is happening. Marty Hurney is hired by the team - supposedly for the GM position. Now it looks like he'll be a special consultant. Then Mayhew is hired.

Nothing ever seems to be on the same page in DC.
IIRC

Mayhew has done absolutely nothing in management. In several years in DET he made no mark and you never heard a word about him. Same w/ shorter time at NYG. Not sure why WFT would bother.
