Your thoughts? Block and Catch?

I'd love to see the next Boss. Give me a Bavaro.

Penn stater here. His blocking is weak. He looks the part. Certainly has the frame, but he is a poor blocker. As a receiver, he has great hands, but he's just an above average athlete for the position. He may find himself open, but he's not gonna scare anyone. He doesn't have the speed of Gesicki. I loved him at PSU and I see a lot of people advocating him to be drafted in the 2nd, but I think they will be disappointed when they see isn't the blocker they hope him to be nor an explosive receiver.
Also...a Penn St through marriage, and agree but
George from PA : 1/22/2021 2:49 am : link
I would advocate for him....as he is like the anti-Engram. Our 2nd Rd pick might be a bit early for him.

He is very reliable.....great hands. Catches ball in traffic....not fast, but runs good routes. He was their move the stick, ideal 3rd down option. Not at all flashy, but steady.

Potentially, he can be a good blocker. He was not really asked to block.....not a finished product. I think he can become a blocker. He has a TE body....the Big Ten had several decent TEs....and there might be better value elsewhere.

I think he's the sort of player who initially gets projected high but drops as the process goes on. I know people have speculated 2nd or 3rd for him, but I could easily see him drop to the top of the 4th
If it’s not Pitts in round one

I’d love to see Hunter Long from BC in blue with a 3rd round pick. He can block and is just as strong a receiver.
I really want them to add a Blocking tight end who can catch
Dinger : 1/22/2021 8:26 am : link
I know that sounds simple but seems like forever since we had one. Doesn't need to be 'something special'. Doesn't need to be superfast or an incredible athlete or touched by the hand of god. Just a Tight End who can block for Barkley and then catch an 8 yard pass on 3rd and 7.
I’d take a pass on this kid
Metnut : 1/22/2021 8:35 am : link
Doesn’t look like a real difference maker IMO. Give me Pitts.
I just can't get behind

Pitts as a guy who has value at #11. He's a weapon in the passing game, but he's also a Tight End. And the job description of a Tight End for the NYG is to block - both sealing the edge and trapping.

If not, the Giants can't run their offense the way a cold weather team needs to. All the highlight reel catches go out the window. All the sudden you're using him in predictable ways, or allowing him to compromise your run game.

We don't need a 6'6" beanpole who can jump out of the stadium at TE. We need a grunt guy who likes to hit people , catch a ball when he's wide open and run over people. Physical. No way to Pitts, unless he can transition to WR and then I'm very interested. To me, he looks like Plax. Can he lose some weight?

Kaden Smith is already on the team. Of all the things they need, a blocking TE is near the bottom of the list. So a slight blocking upgrade from him....

I disagree. Kaden Smith is neither a reliable blocker nor a reliable catcher. Why do you think a blocking TE is near the bottom of the list? I think one HELPS the OL and other players on the team. Someone like Evan Engram who 'creates mismatches' but cant block is just a wide receiver who lines up in the TE position. If you lined up DK Metcalf in TE position, he'd look (and probably act) more like a TE than EE AND Smith for that matter.

Pitts is a willing blocker who can at least do basic things but he’s versatile weapon with really great hands and ball skills to go with his freakish size.

We need real weapons on offense or else we’ll never have a chance to get better. Look at all of the final 4 teams and the type of offenses they run. If we don’t end up with Pitts or one of the big three WR in the draft I’d be really disappointed.
I’m disappointed the kid from Ohio St isn’t turning pro ...

He’s the kind of guy we need on the Giants.
Looks Slow & Not Tough

he looks slow for a receiving TE. I would pass unless it is 5th round or later

Not fast, but good route runner. Should be able to get open. Toughness definitely not an issue. Extremely physical after the catch and big time red zone threat.

I also think some posters are underrating his blocking. He wasn't quite as good last year (new offense and no offseason) but for a college TE in a spread offense was an above average to good blocker.
What I look for in a TE

Tight end value chart

1) can he pass block

2) can he run block

3) see above

4) can he catch
