Mets have JBJ on their radar. At least 5 teams still monitoring CF: Phils, Red Sox, Astros and Rockies. It’s a pretty thin group now. Pillar is the next best option with Almora, Marisnick among others. Mets would prefer a righty hitter but JBJ would give them a very strong OF.
I'm with you. Heard off the record he's been asking for 5 years. He won't get that but I wouldn't even go more than 2 and even then wouldn't bee over the moon.
to whoever suggested it, and the upside is roughly zero but Sanchez is probably the best of the "workout guys" outside of Paxton who will get real MLB money. could be as good as any of their current #5 options.
if it were me JBJ would be leverage in trade talks
and the main guy I'd be targeting is Cain, though I'd consider Margot also if the Rays are willing to move him. There are some guys on the roster I could see both MIL and TB could being interested in. Either would be more efficient then spending multi-year dollars on JBJ especially if he has a healthy market.

Mets’ main targets at moment appear to be JBJ, Kike’ and pen (Hand?). Word is, while interested Mets aren’t rushing to sign top pitcher Trevor Bauer. Looking to see how multiple pieces could line up first.

Also. He's what they need. A good defensive CFer, and he's a righty hitter. And if he has to make an extended run as a starter, he'll at least hit for power and steal some bases as a trade-off for living with his terrible OBP.

Agreed - I'd probably be happier with Marisnick on a cheap deal allowing them to sign Hand than JBJ on a bigger deal that precludes a signing like Hand.
is still a high-level defensive player and still very, very fast. We could do worse as an extra OF (obviously not a starter). But defense for Dom or JDD (when they are in the OF) or any time Nimmo makes a CF start. Also a pinch runner for Alonso/Dom/JDD etc.

Even beyond that, if they get a DH, there is going to be playing time for a 3rd OF'er other than Nimmo/Conforto. Maybe they give JDD time in LF, or someone like Kike time, but I'd imagine any defensive CF they get will have an opportunity to play a good chunk of innings.
His D seems bad across the board in the IF and not played much in CF so not sure where he'd fit in here.
Btw this deal is probably so far the best example of the owner's financial doomsday being total bs. He got the AAV predicted but got 2 extra years amidst a lot of alternatives (as compared to Mccann where there were few alternatives). Can't wait to hear more bs leak out about league financials as they get closer to needing a deal in ST.

I suggested Anibal Sanchez on here about 10 days ago....I threw Gio Gonzo's name out there too.
I'm just looking for someone (anyone) to replace Matz, who I think is psychologically scarred. I hope he's been seeing a Sports Psychologist in the off-season.
Dan, can you post that list of available pitchers sorted by WAR ??

Fangraphs has Bauer, Tanaka, Paxton, Porcello, Archer (it doesn't take into account his injury so I'd ignore this one), Odorizzi, Richards, Shoemaker, Wainwright, Anderson, Walker, Rodon (in order) in terms of projected 2021 fWAR
the Mets are one of 6 teams in on Ozuna. Hector Gomez is known to routinely be complete BS. He's the guy who was pushing the Castillo was headed to the Yankees BS. Jeff Passan openly called Gomez a BSer.

Yeah, I don't buy it. That would certainly be interesting. Mash teams to death

Gomez legit makes things up (like the Castillo trade). He said the Mets hired Eduardo Perez as their manager, that Machado was signing with the White Sox etc. He's viewed as a joke.
couple years in Boston. Hard to see exactly what he's trying to do. It somehow does feel kind of like TB, because TB makes those random unexpected moves, only with TB you understand it because they have to be way outside the box to win. If they don't behave different they are going to lose. In Boston he doesn't need to reinvent the wheel.
Either way I hope their deal with Kike falls apart and the NYM can swoop in. But not counting on it, they seem to have targeted him all offseason.
If that's roughly the LT line, Im signing Hand, Turner, and Marisnick and inviting a few guys like Gio to ST for cheap and calling it a day. Should get us right about there.
There might be more interesting trade packages out there featuring Bryant, Arenado, Suarez.... But none seem realistic.

Would rather just bring back Marisnick for cheap.

That's why I think Margot may be a good target. The 2 of them are sort of redundant. JDD would be a nice compliment to Choi.

ST invites for Hamilton, Mallex, Broxton, and Marisnick just to fuck with BVW.

Agreed. Castro, Brach, Gsellman shouldn't be guaranteed roster spots.

lol
I don't think Matz is going to make it out of Spring Training.
He would be a very good 2B option. Had an off year last year, so could get him on a bit of a discount. He'd probably be hitting 9th if there is a DH

Was all-star level good in 2019, solid in 2018, still only going to be 30.

Luis Castillo has not been traded to the Yankees.
Stop believing people who consistently get things wrong.

At 30 yrs old and showing ability to hit a bit better for average and power I would consider at 3 year deal.

Wow. I don't even want him, but that sure is interesting.
