what are your actual predictions. Also, do you expect any surprises?
Im still around my usually 90-ish mark that Ive been at since 2015. lol.
But that's mainly because the division is so tough. Another piece or two and I have us as good as any team in the NL.
I could see the Mets rounding out the roster with a few players like Ive mentioned in FA or maybe pulling off another trade. If we went the less exciting FA route I wouldn't put past Sandy to make another in season "Cespedes" like trade. He isn't getting any younger and my hunch is he wants a WS ring and feels this year might be as good a chance as any.
But man... Would signing Wong and JBJ (McNeil at 3b/Dom at 1B) give us one of the best defenses in baseball? Every player would be good defensively with almost half being truly elite.
We would be very LH though but its enticing to have a D THAT good.

Dave Roberts has long said he is a gold glove defender @ 5 positions(2b, cf, rf, ss, lf Filing Bible no. 1 multi-positional defender), OPS+ 122 vs. LHP, 82 vs. RHP. Recently Alex Cora was @mall and a store owner said Kike's mother owned the shop two businesses down. Small world.
Just seems like he'd have been a perfect fit for a couple years. The current 3 starting OF's are all lefties, 2 below avg. defensively (Smith LF, Nimmo CF). And he'd have probably been able to play a lot at 2b. This seems like a deal where it was worth spending a little more to get the best fit instead of the best value.
straight recent gold up the middle (Lindor, Wong, and JBJ) ? Or am I tripping? lol.
That would be a dramatic defensive overhaul in one season IMO.
Davis would probably have to be in the lineup against any lefty giving Lindor, Alonso, McCann, and him in there to provide some RH offense. But the lineup would kill righties.
And part of me would like to see him get an extended run. But you're talking about a two time recent gold glover in Wong. Pairing him with Lindor... we would have one of the flashiest middle infields in decades.
deGrom, Bauer, Carrasco, Stroman, Peterson, Syndergaard, Lucchesli; I think that's gotta be best in baseball, to go along with probably a top 5 offense and a pretty good pen, especially if Betances/Familia return to form. Bench would be a weak spot. Maybe we can sign Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe.
player than Wong, and infinitely cheaper. Sign Bradley, start LG at 2nd, and then add Tanaka.
Cheaper yes. Better? No. Wong is arguably the best defensive 2B in baseball and has posted 15.3 fWAR over 6 1/3 seasons. If LG is better then he’s a top 8 or so 2B in baseball? If the Mets felt that way he’d be penciled in as the starter. I like him but better than Wong? Law has Wong his #9 overall FA.
and I'm not saying he's a career better player, just saying that he's better right now. At the very least, it's close enough that I rather use the money saved elsewhere if possible. Guillmore is a very good defensive player with a similar hitting profile to Wong, who will cost $7 million less.
Money on him is a different story but he was 7th at 2B in fWAR in 2020 just behind Fletcher who was 4th. The argument to not spend on a 2B is a fair one but it’s hard to argue LG is better or will be at any point in the near future. Wong is probably top 5-7 at his position for the next 2-3 seasons.
If they believe in mcneil at 3b that's not a big issue - he only needs to play 1 position if he's good at it and it's open. Their actions seem to be unsure where they are going to play him.
RE: the only issue with Wong is locking McNeil in at 3b

His metrics at 3B grade out fine. He's well above average there and Im sure Sandy and team know this. I think fans are just stuck on the first week last year where McNeil was off and rushing things. He made a few bad plays... But it such a small sample. He looked great there the year before...
I think McNeil has immense value as a guy that's not only talented offensively, but also a guy that you can plug into 2-3 spots and be fine. He offers flexibility when injuries hit or you need to get a bench guy in once in a while and give another guy a blow. I think it all just adds to his weight.
I don't disagree with that but they seem to be hedging
and don't forget when he came up in 2018 they said he "wasn't a 3b", which may have just been lipservice to protect a young player and keep him at his more natural position.
I think it's fair for them to want to make that decision in ST and that's why I think a similarly versatile player would have been more ideal addition than an everyday 2b like Wong or 3b like Turner (though I would be happy with either one).
There's been a lot of smoke the past couple weeks but little fire - which kind of reminds me of the days before the Lindor trade. Remember when they were in and then passed on Saguno and in and then cooled on Odorizzi. It obviously turned out they were really in on Lindor/Carrasco. Maybe they are really just sitting back right now and waiting for prices to keep dropping but it also wouldn't surprise me if we see something happen on the trade market that puts the recent passes into a different perspective (like Cain).
I would hope the Mets split time between Davis and Guillorme. And when Davis is in, McNeil would be at 2B, and when Guillorme is in, McNeil would be at 3B. Thats how I'd do it anyway.
Bauer is the obvious move. Mets lineup is already stacked and all these proposed acquisitions, such as Wong or Hernandez, make it weaker rather than stronger.
Hand is s good pitcher but Mets already have 3 lefty starters, two of whom will wind up in the pen when Thor comes back.
Offer Bauer a one year deal for the most money you can while staying u set the luxury tax threshold

Mets have interest in Trevor Bauer but likely on a shorter deal (4 years or fewer). Dodgers could, too, but definitely short-term there. Other teams suggest they have impression Bauer prefers a longer deal. Agent Rachel Luba said: “He’s open to all different types of structures”

Sources from multiple teams say Brad Hand’s free agency could be nearing a conclusion. These teams have been told that Hand wants to make a decision soon, perhaps even by the end of this weekend.

Wanted an every day role at 1 position per Rosenthal so presumably the Mets weren’t a great fit

there are a lot of other good players out there to move on to but none checked both boxes filling multiple roles in the IF and OF. He was a 2 for 1.

If that's the case 2b was the only option if they felt good about McNeil everyday at 3b. But I can certainly understand not wanting to guarantee that.
And a big part of his appeal was the OF flexibility so if he didn't want to play in multiple spots then he would have been less appealing.
(I tend to subscribe to money talks tho - for an extra $1m, who knows)

Thats seems like a recipe for success to me.
And again, not a fan of JBJ. But if you want to go "all in" on the D, that's the way to really do it.

Anybody know the cutoff date to where the extension wouldn't hurt this years LT? Isn't it at the end of ST or something?
