Smith is scratched because Jack Johnson is playing out of his mind and deserves to remain in the lineup. /s
Drinking game: take a shot every time Jack Johnson's slapshot is no where near the net.
In other news, the Rangers reportedly have reached out to Columbus regarding Pierre-Luc Dubois.
I won't lie I would feel a lot better about this team once the goalie plays at a high level. To me, Shesterkin hasn't been the same since midway through last season. I'd like to see him calm my fears please.
To me like he belongs but not much impact just yet. Nothing discouraging by any means, some encouraging signs. You can see how aware he is on the ice too. Head always up, etc.
However, if we managed that then we would likely have to trade Kreider to open up cap space for long term deals for Dubois and Mika.
So in a trade where one team would be trading a player to a "win now" team, that's probably 5 - 8 games post trade the newly acquired player(s) would miss.
Just pointing it out. Trades are hard due to compensation, NTC/NMC, and other factors, it's going to be even harder this year due to COVID.
And fuck you, David Quinn, for using Strome on PP1 instead of Laf or Buch
Pens won their last two games (WAS). Jarry has been brutal, but so have a lot of goalies early this season.
I thought the Rangers played ok that period. The lone goal was a really nice tip.
No idea why Strome is on the PP. Usually you see even veteran coaches use the young guys/skill guys on the PP because you don't need to consider their defense as much.
NYR up 3 - 1
It's funny cause it's true
Yes, the Marc Staal snowangel technique
Given our depth at wing, it might make sense to trade him before we have to pay him. Maybe we can get a two-way center who is solid on faceoffs, or a LD who is strong in his own end.

Prefer to dump Kreider if it comes to it. When they resigned him we had no idea we’d win Lefreniere. Also think Trouba is badly overpaid.
no idea how he thought that was a good idea

It was awful in every single way. Terrible idea, terrible execution, terrible everything. Took a 2 on 1 and gave the penguins a near breakaway
So many more skilled players to be on the ice in that situation IMO.
No one on this fucking team wants to shoot. It's infuriating
@AdamZHerman
The Rangers currently have a 4.40 goals against average with Jack Johnson on the ice at 5v5 this season.
@AdamZHerman
This season, NYR have been outscored 0-4 at 5v5 with Johnson/DeAngelo on the ice. When they're off the ice, NYR have outscored the opposition 7-1.
Signed....
Also, when we were at least adequate on faceoffs? When we had Brian Boyle and Brassard.
Fuck me, fave-offs are a given loss for me at thi z pont.
Also, playing JJ is just trolling by Quinn at this point.

It’s a sample size of 4 dude. No one liked the Johnson signing .... but let’s give it 20 games. Cmon now.

Historically, he's been awful. He's worse than Staal.
I think I'm coming around to Greg's way of thinking on DQ. His ice time allocations are nearly at Vigneault head scratching level. I get playing with line combos to see what clicks, but his love for some is kicking the team down the tubes
I know there was panic among some here to keep him, but was there really value at that contract, would another team have paid up to sign him at those $$/years?

Kreider is always an enigma to me because his results should be better. He can do it all, but he never seems to.
but absolutely IMO (and it's just my opinion) that contract would have been beaten by someone else. Teams look at that combination of size, speed, skill, and think "if I put him on a line with x...." I think that Kreider deal might even be a little bit of a "hometown discount".
pj you are the oracle about all things hockey, and maybe a team (even a contender vs NYR in the Conference?) would have done it. It's not as if he hasn't had talent around him here to flourish. He has his hot streaks in front of the net and then seems to vanish, those periods to my mind lasting way longer than the productive ones.
I'd feel better about it if I didn't suspect Quinn will put him right back in if they lose, regardless of how Smith plays.
