NFL Network is playing Chiefs Bills from January 1994. The AFC Championship Game. Joe Montana wearing a Chiefs jersey. Which Buffalo team do you think was the best?
I forgot how damm rowdy those Buffalo fans were for these games.
The 1993 Super Bowl is the one I think they should have one. they were up at halftime, but turtled after losing a fumble that lead to a game tying score.
The K gun was still pretty new and defenses hadn't quite caught up to it yet. Guys like Thomas, Kelly, Smith, Bennett, et al were in the prime of their careers, mid-late 20s. The only old guy I can remember on that team was James Lofton. They also had an aura to them that year as the team to beat that the Giants kind of punctured. Then the Redskins smoked them in XXVI, and they were kind of joke by the time they played the Cowboys.
RE: This thread makes me realize what a waste NFL Net is
Buffalo team and the 1990 Giants were running on fumes with their backup QB and still beat them. The greatest back to back weeks of Giants football ever and the greatest coaching accomplishment of any NFL team ever by Parcells & Belichick. The entire 1990 Giants season was master class of great coaching.

Great post. I was just arguing about that with some useless Eagle fan.

Lost a bit in the well known history of Belichick’s Super Bowl 25 defensive game plan being in the Hall of Fame, is the way he had our guys play a different front in each of our 3 playoff games.
Against the Bears, led by a strong running game with Neal Anderson in his prime, our base defense was a 5-2 for much of the game.
Against the Montana 49ers, I believe we played primarily a 4-2-5 nickel package. Could have been more of a 3-3-5
In the Super Bowl, a 2-3-6. Where he famously told the defense to win, Thurman Thomas need to gain over 100 yards against us.
All of that with a defense that was built as a 3-4.
Erdhadt deserves a ton of praise too. We dominated the TOP. It just cracks me up because BB-who is the GOAT without ?-gets so much praise for holding Buffalo to 19 points when the Bills ONLY had the ball for 19 & change minutes, Haha.
Seems like it may have been one of the greatest D vs. O SB matchups in history.
Is there a better one? ...
Rams vs. Pats in ‘01 maybe comes close, but I don’t think so actually. Pats didn’t have even close to as great as a D as the ‘90 Giants , but they just happened to play well enough to upset the Rams that day thanks to Belichick’s genius.
Dolphins vs. 49ers in ‘85 ? I don’t know. I’m legit asking. Seems like that 1990 super bowl was the best one.
Denver was a #1 offense in 2013 and Seattle was the #1 defense.
Denver set all of those records, Peyton Manning 55 TD throws but they got their asses kicked by Seattle in the Jersey Bowl, so I'm not sure if that game would meet the requirements.
I think 1990 was their best shot - they had a good team
One take away from that Super Bowl was that it was the ONLY time I EVER saw Andre Reed mentally defeated.
Reed was a superior receiver - and the best one on the Bills that year - who made his living going over the middle.
But the GIANTS LBs just beat the living shit out of him every time he stuck his nose anywhere in the short zone between the tackles.
By the third quarter you could see that he wanted no part of that any more. He was absolutely beaten mentally and physically by the GIANTS LBs.
I kept the SI Super Bowl issue for many years afterwards and I still remember Reed's postgame comments from it - "I've never been hit that hard in my life, they bruised up my whole body"
10th in yards allowed but 1st in points allowed . So I guess they were a good D but not one of the greatest ever .
A great defense.
The lead up to that game was Marino vs the 49ers defense, not even Marino vs Montana. Bill Walsh had to make the sarcastic remark in the locker room laying down on the floor "I don't know what we're gonna do with this Dan Marino"....
Did you guys feel like the win in 90 lost its shine when the Bills got trounced in the next 3 Super Bowls and that win we had was by the skin of our teeth?

The NFC was a dominant force back then, I remember until Denver won against Green Bay, the NFC championship, it was presumed that team would win the Super Bowl.
The Bills did win the AFC championship game against the LA Raiders 51-3 or something.
Bruce Smith almost broke Mark Gastineau's sack record in week 17.
Winning a Super Bowl with a back up QB when it meant something (unlike Phillys stupid story) never loses any shine.
Their playoff performance leading up to the sb was pretty spooky good.
Was more worried about facing that team than the Patriots in 42. We had just played the Pats close and were gaining momentum. But between the aging defense, Hampton’s broken leg, backup QB. What a win that was.
Think about it, the Giants had the ball for about 40 minutes the Bills 20. This means for Buffalo to get their 19 pts, they scored 1 pt per minute.
Those back to back 9 minute drives were things of beauty. The last 9 minutes of the 1st half for a TD, and the 1st 9 minutes of the 2nd half for a TD. Including halftime, that was over 30 minutes that Buffalo's offense sat on the sidelines.

Actually it was only 4 minutes at the end of the 1st half. Still thats close to 30 minutes of not playing for the Bills O.
Yes. Who beat them?

To get to four consecutive SBs is an incredible accomplishment. They were absolutely a GREAT team...
Instead we got pointless player rankings and top 10 lists.
What a waste.

Good morning football has actually grown on me over recent time.
Yeah. They show top 10 lists made in 2007.
Exactly - Nothing to add to this at all.

Legendary coaching achievement.
Marv Levy is still cooking. 95 years young.
It took a hell of an effort by Giant players and coaches to pull out that Super Bowl win.
A hell of an effort for 60 minutes. Good thing it wasn't 61.

America's Game Missing Rings - 1990 Buffalo Bills
Except XXXV, which I want erased from my mind.
