Yeah, I’m sure Jameis Winston would have gotten them to the SB.
My post was sarcasm!

Oh you mean by giving all his teammates crab legs as his way of team building?

Absolutely ridiculous when you think about it.

there is no f-in way Brady takes those Denver teams in '87, '88 and '90. Elway took a team of mediocre offensive talent and literally carried them to three SBs in four years.
The team is in the Superbowl not because of Brady's performance today
EricJ : 1/24/2021 7:27 pm : link
but because of his play all year, his leadership, his being a coach with a helmet, by teaching this group of players how to prepare and be a champion.

All of the things that you cannot see while watching TV for the past few hours.

Summing up his contribution by looking at a couple of interceptions truly shows me who has no clue.

obviously he had a great season. But is it really that crazy to say he didn’t have that great of a game? He missed a lot of throws today and was gifted at least 3 big plays by really stupid DB play.

What he’s doing at his age is insane, probably won’t be duplicated. But Brady isn’t infallible and it’s ok to say it.

I remember those Denver teams. They weren't great. It was a time when when the AFC was a lot weaker than the NFC. I think a couple of the Patriot teams were actually no better than the Denver team. But yes. I don't think Brady would ever be a step down from any QB on a winning team. And let me stipulate this - I despise Tom Brady. He has rare abilities that aren't as obvious as Elway's cannon arm and athleticism. He has an incredible head for the game, he is so unusually consistent, he processes so quickly, he throws a great, underrated, catchable ball, His accuracy and timing on the short passing game is better than Montana.

That era was totally different.

First and foremost, Brady would have had to survive playing where the defense was literally trying to hurt the QB.

Go back and watch that era of defense.

Brady could have played in that era for sure. He has good size. But he doesn't have the tool kit to drag that Denver team to three SBs in four years. Elway was better off-script, a better athlete, and a better thrower. And that's what that Denver team needed...

Okay, fair enough.

Elway is tremendously underrated. Remember, Walsh thought about trading for Montana for Elway in 1983. He saw the potential greatness.

Agree with this. It’s a team game, he’s a terrific QB but always has a strong team around him. That being said, a winner brings a certain mentality to the locker room which rubs off on his teammates.

The "who made who"
Daniel in MI : 1/24/2021 10:56 pm : link
argument on BB and Brady is silly. BB made Brady, and together they made the dynasty.

I was in MI when Brady came out. He was an OK player who failed to even lock down the starting role on the Wolverines. His draft status demonstrates that.

To his credit, he came into BB's system, and worked on himself and his game at the foot of some great coaches. He became a great QB.

The whole talent versus accomplishment thing: that's an interesting bar debate, but last I checked the point of playing was to lift the Lombardi at the end of the year. He's not Forrest Gump that happen to have been at the right place and time 10 years out of 20. He was an integral part of the most impressive modern NFL dynasty. His not pushing to get every penny he could, his buying into the system, and locking down the key position for so long and playing so well there allowed that dynasty to flourish.

I'll be honest, I thought he'd struggle this year, but he's thrived and kudos to him. Hope he loses next week because I'm sick of him.

Patriots with Brady this year
Giantimistic : 1/25/2021 1:47 am : link
Does not go to the superbowl. Maybe still does not make the playoffs. They had so many great players opt out.

I like in Boston. Watched a lot of the Patriots.

Brady was a perfect fit for Belicheck and his system. What was also a perfect fit was 20 years of playing in an awful division, never paying Brady the top dollar for QB helped a lot, and having a great oline that gave him excellent protection.

Brady did work hard and became a great player and is one of the best ever, but I do think he lucked into the perfect situation.

A Tampa Bay situation is exactly the type of situation you need for a veteran qb to make a end of career run. Elway had it at the end with Denver, Peyton had it at the end with Denver.

Defense is very legit and he looks younger and fresher than Old Man Rodgers. He wants to go till 45, but if you win a home SB against defending champs and Mahomes? Wouldn’t you have to consider going out on top? Brady doesn’t have to worry about anyone else retiring the same year as him, so he could choose to retire with Brees and maybe Ben if he retires, too. He’s proven the point that he’s the GOAT in any circumstance. I don’t think they need to win to prove that, but it would be the cherry on his overflowing sundae of a career. Every season I imagine a Tom Brady Pavilion at Canton being extended further.

Making the playoffs every year in the AFC East with a 20 yr program is one thing. They played a very competitive NFC South, and Tom and team still got it done. He was great this year and 100% is the guy who got a good team over the top. Taught them how to play and win. All season. Not just yesterday. And those players are clearly fighting for him.

If you have a great horse and trainer, but a lousy jockey, you ain’t winning. You can have a mediocre trainer, middle road horse, and top jockey and have a shot. To me, Tom separated himself from Bill without a question. He’s the jockey that gives every trainer and horse a chance to win.

Great game to look forward to. Past, present, and future of the game on the same field, tied 2-2 head to head, for all the marbles. First time since early 2000s Pats we will have a team with a shot to back up their win the prior year. Glad this is the game. Wasn’t digging Buffalo v GB.
The Bucs will lose, but it won't be because of Brady
Marty in Albany : 1/25/2021 11:20 am : link
It will be because the Bucs defense (like the rest of the NFL) can not pressure Mahomes without single covering Kelce or KC's top-notch WRs.

Those Denver teams had great defenses(really fucking good). The RBs by committee had some decent stats if I remember correctly. I think Brady might have won more with those teams in all honesty. Elway had a legendary arm that got him into trouble sometimes because he thought he could fit anything in there if it he through it hard enough. Brady greater than Elway in my opinion.
This Bucs roster
mittenedman : 1/25/2021 5:39 pm : link
looks like a Pro Bowl team.

Brady, Leonard Fournette, Gronk, Mike Evans, Antonio Brown, Godwin, Suh, JPP, Barrett, Devin White, Lavonte David, Davis, Winfield - you gotta be kidding me.

They have as much frontline talent as any team in the NFL. I said before, they are trying to buy a Championship and it just might work. 1 game away.
