No specific delay proposed, but they include projected daily number of infections from the Univ of Washington, which show mid-March being less than 1/3 of the projection for mid-Feb. link - ( New Window )
it makes a lot of sense for MLB to push the season back say a month. But can they agree on how to handle the loss of games? They cant play baseball into december and i doubt they want to schedule a bunch of double headers to make up the missed game.

It all comes down to money and they showed last year they’re incapable of working that out.
minor league ball? We just got a local team (AA affiliate of the Angels) with a nice big, new stadium. The 2020 season was the inaugural season and it got cancelled...
I’m not sure the people putting this statement out have
the authority to do anything to delay spring training. If I was being conspiracy oriented, I’d wonder whether this was part of a plot to lower the number of games down from 162 to pay the players less.

It will. They'd already announced that AA and below wouldn't start spring training until MLB and AAA players had left to start their seasons, so there was already going to be a delay. Presumably this would just push things back further, though I suppose they could decide that starting later with thing under better control would make it feasible to have all minor leaguers there together.
although just starting to decline. Still losing a thousand people a week, mostly in the Phoenix metro area (where most of the state population is).
Number 9 in cases in the US, while 14th in population. Too many people just don't get it. Look into the under 30s bars and it shoulder to shoulder without a mask in sight.
Waiting a month longer to let the second wave of Covid wane and the vaccines to take hold is the smart thing to do.

In fairness, it's signed by the mayors of the host cities. They met with MLB, showed them data suggesting that there would be a spike in Feb, and then better numbers in March. The want fans in the stands aka tourism.
Was wondering when an announcement would come out. Usually pitchers and catcher report around 2/15.
I had the same thought today about " pitchers and catchers" reporting date. One month to 6 week delay is necessary to allow the vaccines to get well established.

If that’s the case, and you’re probably right, this is going to get ugly. Again. Supposedly the players union has already said that they won’t accept anything less than the full 162 in any negotiations.

California has very high numbers and they have been shut down longer than anyone. I m not sure anyone gets it where this virus is concerned.

Had them*
But figure he will start at 5-6 innings max early on
