The #Mets have reportedly made Trevor Bauer an offer that would give him the highest AAV of any player in baseball. In this piece there’s no word on length of deal, other than it is “shorter term”
Mike Trout makes just over $37M per. twitter.com/bnightengale/s…

NY #Mets emerge as favorites for free agent pitcher Trevor Bauer with record-setting average annual contract offer. https://usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/mets/2021/01/26/trevor-bauer-mets-offer-contract/4258036001/
I mean I can't really argue against the way someone FEELS but given his price and numbers vs. lefties I think he'd be a good option. That being said I'd take Rosenthal over every other available RP.

Some personal news: After six wonderful seasons with the Dodgers, culminating in a World Series win, I am very excited to be joining the @Mets
as Director of Baseball Analytics.
(As always, my Twitter account is solely devoted to the Oscars & other award shows, not to baseball.)
@Feinsand
With J.T. Realmuto taken care of, the Phillies' focus now turns to shortstop -- specifically Andrelton Simmons -- sources tell me and @ToddZolecki
.
If he just got into a battle with her, then
He might be a jerk but it is not a huge problem.
A lot of athletes are jerks.

I'd have no issue with bringing Ollie back. He was OK v RHB last year, but pretty awful in 2019 (.890 OPS against). With the 3-batter rule, that may be a problem.
he's been good lately and I have no ill will toward him any more.
if he can help the 2020 Mets win, I'd have Luis Castillo on the team or Armando Benitez or Bobby Bonilla (round 3) or Vince Coleman or pick your Met villain.

should say *2021* Mets win

People don't like Armando??
I always loved Bobby Bo.. and was a HUGE Ollie fan.
Luis Castillo, Kaz Matsui, Robbie Alomar, and Robinson Cano are my least favorite all time.... And I am just NOW noticing the similarity as I type this... Weird.
LaStella has become quite the player. 27 walks and 12 Ks last year. He’s from another era
According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, Trevor Bauer, who is weighing his options for his next contract with spring training three weeks away, would choose to play for the Mets if the offers he receives are comparable.
Lol, I got nothing

Free-agent starter Trevor Bauer, who received a lucrative contract formal offer from the #Mets about 10 days ago, would certainly have plenty of marketing opportunities in NY with his social media brand. The Mets are the favorites to land the top starter on the market.
Go get him Sandy

I've been told that #Angels are still pushing hard for Bauer and owner Arte Moreno may veto his new GM and outbid #Mets no matter what the number might be...

Nothing against Mark Healey... but he said moves were going to happen in 1-2 days and... then they didn't. He's a nice guy but doesn't have any special insight.
Bauer's "preference" for the NYM feels a lot like Springer's "preference" to play close to home in CT. All things equal maybe it's true, but more likely it's a leak with the intention of getting a bigger offer just like Springer ended up getting from Toronto. The NYM showed discipline in the Springer market so we'll see what they do here.
I just hope they aren't missing out on the better depth options on a fool's errand hoping a super star falls into their lap (especially while the Phillies got lucky and had JTR fall into theirs, the Nats got Hand for just 1 year, and Atlanta sniffs around).
I don't have an issue with MOST writers. Very confused with your question. I don't care for Nightengale, what in my post above is critical of the writers?
Please give me an example outside of notoriously wrong Bob Nightengale (where I also linked "proof" his known for always being wrong).
You'd prefer I not note that since Nightengale's story came out it's been noted.
1. The discussions were almost 2 weeks ago
2. Did not include anything involving the highest AAV ever (he himself later retracted that).
3. That his agent has been trying to push information that has been refuted?
I am also fairly nervous that his signing prohibits us from signing Thor who I still think will turn it around. That said for short term it would really solidify the team and between the fact that I have a family and the Wilpons being gone I am trying not to consistently freak out over expiring contracts.
Didn't mean any offense.
-Ty Kelly is not a writer for Metsfix apparently
No matter who you want to try to compare him too (Scherzer/Cole), that is the one thing he does not stack up to in regards to any of the games aces. Even as he got better as a pitcher.
Could also explain why he is proactively trying to convince teams he wants to pitch every 4th day ;)
Sounds like a sound approach haha. I'd like to see the team compete while Jake is Jake. And the beauty of baseball is that competing year in and year out for a top payroll team is less about managing the short/mid term financial picture, and more about developing a massive and successful scouting/analytics/development operation. Signing Bauer does not impede that more important longterm process.

In fairness, over the past 2 seasons (45 starts) he's averaged 6.35 innings per start. Over the same 2 seasons he's 3rd in innings so I don't think it's a legitimate gripe. Going back to 2018 he's 6th in innings.... 1 more than... Max Scherzer.
