The #Mets have reportedly made Trevor Bauer an offer that would give him the highest AAV of any player in baseball. In this piece there’s no word on length of deal, other than it is “shorter term”
Mike Trout makes just over $37M per. twitter.com/bnightengale/s…

Jackie Bradley Jr.'s stats vs. expected stats last year:
.283 AVG vs. .230 xBA (9th biggest gap in MLB)
.347 wOBA vs. .299 xwOBA (8th biggest gap in MLB)
.450 SLG vs. .376 xSLG (17th biggest gap in MLB)
Not to mention career-lows in hard-hit rate (36.1%) and xwOBAcon (.334)
what's that in comparison to Nimmo?
His 2020 numbers vs. his "expected" aka he outperformed what the numbers in a vacuum say he should... which means a big regression is expected. The HH rate all but says he was very lucky.
Hard to believe the Mets offered the same or close to the amount he got from the Nats if he accepted a 1-year off with that much differed.
It seems like at the moment they just don't have urgency on any individual players the way they moved quickly to secure May and McCann. They saw those guys as filling specific needs and locked them down aggressively. They could have done the same with any of the above players but chose not to.
With the remaining 20-30m they seem unsure of the best way to spend it, though it certainly seems like they may think Bauer's price tag is reasonable enough that he's worth the majority of it.
Obviously adding an ace is a big deal if that's what they do, but taking a step back the every day players and BP in particular seem to be lacking quality depth. The rotation is maybe lacking depth but the quality need isn't as glaring with such a strong top 3 (plus Thor mid season). the defense is vastly improved but there's more they could do.

Considering the cost....I'm not sure JBJ compares well to Marusnick.

The Philadelphia Phillies and JT Realmuto are in agreement on a 5 year $115.5 million dollar contract. Pending physical. Per source.
Thats a really good deal for Philly.
Did the Mets ever show interest? Or did they fully expect him to sign for a much bigger contract? Just seems strange they were never in on him..

I have to believe the Mets would have been open to Realmuto at that rate/years had he been willing to sign earlier in the off-season. Strong move for the Phillies.

They just didn't want to wait for him.
Can't really blame them... If they did wait for Realmuto and failed, they'd be in quite a bind.
Agreed. I like how McCann embraces his role with the pitching staff but that looks like a move that we may regret not waiting on.
The Braves lineup is scary enough already I almost want that to happen to weaken their pitching/prospects. It would take a haul. He is on a steal of a 3 year deal.
I don't really want JBJ but on the flip side if someone said there was a guy out there with Lagares level defense except not injury prone and consistently a more productive hitter to the point of occasionally being a net positive hitter. Even though it's another lefty it makes some sense. They could do worse.

Sources: Red Sox remain in on Marwin Gonzalez even after signing Kiké Hernandez. Gonzalez's market could move quick. He fits Boston as LHH 1B complement to Dalbec. Obvious ties to Cora from 2017 in Houston.
I wish the players would vote for expanded playoffs, b/c I'd put deGrom up against anyone in a one game playoff and then the Mets (especially with Bauer) would have enough rotation not to have to worry about now what if they use JdG in a one-game WC playoff.
Cain would have been nice. It is unfortunate the Mets were not Abel to get Cain.

have rejected interest in Cain and now are in on Turner. Looks like that's a dead end.

I see what you did there lol

Yeah, that's A-dam Shame, Eve-n on a lost cost deal.
Bada-bump
Well that seals it, he'd be a great teammate and thrive in NY.
I mean I can't really argue against the way someone FEELS but given his price and numbers vs. lefties I think he'd be a good option. That being said I'd take Rosenthal over every other available RP.

Some personal news: After six wonderful seasons with the Dodgers, culminating in a World Series win, I am very excited to be joining the @Mets
as Director of Baseball Analytics.
(As always, my Twitter account is solely devoted to the Oscars & other award shows, not to baseball.)
@Feinsand
With J.T. Realmuto taken care of, the Phillies' focus now turns to shortstop -- specifically Andrelton Simmons -- sources tell me and @ToddZolecki
.
If he just got into a battle with her, then
He might be a jerk but it is not a huge problem.
A lot of athletes are jerks.

I'd have no issue with bringing Ollie back. He was OK v RHB last year, but pretty awful in 2019 (.890 OPS against). With the 3-batter rule, that may be a problem.
he's been good lately and I have no ill will toward him any more.
if he can help the 2020 Mets win, I'd have Luis Castillo on the team or Armando Benitez or Bobby Bonilla (round 3) or Vince Coleman or pick your Met villain.

should say *2021* Mets win

People don't like Armando??
I always loved Bobby Bo.. and was a HUGE Ollie fan.
Luis Castillo, Kaz Matsui, Robbie Alomar, and Robinson Cano are my least favorite all time.... And I am just NOW noticing the similarity as I type this... Weird.
LaStella has become quite the player. 27 walks and 12 Ks last year. He’s from another era
According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, Trevor Bauer, who is weighing his options for his next contract with spring training three weeks away, would choose to play for the Mets if the offers he receives are comparable.
