Let’s play the quarterback carousel game!

Vin_Cuccs : 1/26/2021 2:44 pm
It seems like every single offseason, the national media goes into a frenzy about which quarterbacks could potentially change teams, but this year it seems like there is an excess amount of quarterbacks that could actually make a move.

With this in mind, where do you see these veterans ending up? To play the game, copy the list of veteran quarterbacks below, paste it into a response into the thread, and put which team the quarterback will end up with including some explanation.

Deshaun Watson
Ben Roethlisberger
Carson Wentz
Sam Darnold
Jared Goff
Aaron Rodgers
Dak Prescott
Matt Stafford
Jimmy Garoppolo
Cam Newton
Teddy Bridgewater
Mitch Trubisky
Jameis Winston
Alex Smith
Tuna Tagovailoa
Was Tua

That much of a bust that they are moving on?

Deshaun Watson-Jets. Joe Douglas and Woody Johnson will move mountains, and end up giving Houston a TON of draft capital to get their superstar QB that they haven't had since Joe Namath.

Ben Roethlisberger-retirement. I think he is done, and all the QB's from that great 2004 class will meet again in Canton. He may want to play another year but he’ll want a ton of money and a starting job. I’m not sure who will hand him those two things.

Carson Wentz-Eagles. Roseman and Lurie love him, and want him to be the guy. They fired Pederson and hired Siranni just to make it work with Wentz. The Colts rumors make some sense, but I don’t think he goes anywhere.

Sam Darnold-Steelers. I might be in the minority, but I think Darnold can still play. The Colts would make a ton of sense, but he has somewhat of a similar skillset to Roethlisberger, and he could thrive in that Pittsburgh offense with plenty of weapons and a stout defense.

Jared Goff-I don't think McVay is ready to move on from Goff. He may be criticized often, but he wins when he plays. It would also be a financial mess to move on this early into his deal.

Aaron Rodgers-49ers. Maybe this is a reach, but I can see him making enough noise that he gets his request out. He is a California kid on a team that can win right away in the NFC.

Dak Prescott-Cowboys. Probably on the franchise tag again. It makes t0o much sense for both sides to walk away from their situation.

Matt Stafford-Texans. Even though the Patriots would be a great fit, a Texas kid that can go back home and win while they find/develop/groom a quarterback of the future...maybe with the 2nd overall pick from the Jets.

Jimmy Garoppolo-Patriots. Belichick loves Garoppolo, and never wanted him to leave. I think the 49ers are ready to move on especially if they can get their hands on Aaron Rodgers.

Cam Newton-Washington. Ron Rivera reunites with his old quarterback that will serve as a veteran mentor for a rookie they will likely draft early.

Teddy Bridgewater-Carolina. Maybe he could return to the NFC north and play for Nagy in Chicago, and Matt Rhule will look to upgrade in the draft, but Bridgewater is a perfect veteran to serve as a mentor, and then eventually, a great back up.

Mitch Trubisky-Colts. This prediction is a little out there, but I could see Frank Reich trying out Trubisky as a reclamation project. Maybe the Steelers would try a Trubisky experiment too.

Jameis Winston-Saints. Speaking of reclamation projects, Payton loves them, and Winston will share time with Taysom Hill. I think Payton knows that Hill is best served in his utility role.

Alex Smith-retirement. What a story. He is an inspiration, but I think he knows the risks of being on the field at this point.

Tua Tagovailoa-Miami isn't ready to give up on him yet, and I don't think they will pull the trigger and trade for Watson.
I like your game there...

I think you do a nice job with your picks.

Throw the guys that are going to draft QBs in there too!
I'll play...

Deshaun Watson-Houston
I get all the issues and they need picks but what it would take to trade for him would be insane. If you put that much effort in to building your team you can be good and still keep your picks.

Ben Roethlisberger-Retire Hes done. He’s done physically and mentally. He had to rationalize coming back for the 2020 season. I could see Tomlin rolling with Haskins as the starter and bringing in someone like Fitzpatrick.

Carson Wentz-Eagles
He isn’t going anywhere. In fact they should trade Hurts while he has value.

Sam Darnold-Falcons
He gets dealt to Atlanta as a backup

Jared Goff-Rams
Nothing to see here. He is not far removed from a Super Bowl appearance. He’s staying out.

Aaron Rodgers-GB
He will do what Ben did last year. The team will have what they believe is the team to beat for 2021 and he will come back for another season.

Dak Prescott-Cowboys
Again doesn’t make sense for either side to change

Matt Stafford-49ers
Stafford makes sense for them. If they have a very good QB they will be a very good team. When you look at teams who become a playoff team with a single upgrade the 49ers with Stafford are imho that team.

Jimmy Garoppolo-Jets
If the Jets move on from Darnold I can see this happening. He has a relationship with the new coach. It could also be the reason it doesn’t happen but for the sake of this exercise I’m saying Jets.

Cam Newton-Pats
I think he will get a second year in the system. I think they will be better but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the AFC East very even next year with the exception of the Jets

Teddy Bridgewater-Chicago
May be a better fit for what they want to do there. I think Carolina will draft a QB and focus on the rest of the team.

Mitch Trubisky-Vikings
Stays in the division and maybe takes the starting role by mid season.

Jameis Winston-Saints.
Like the other poster said SP brought him in for this exact scenario.

Alex Smith-Retire
Please retire. We get it. You are not a quitter but you jeopardize you ability to walk if you return and for what? That team isn’t going to win anything with or without you. You proved to you and everyone else you can now stop it.

Tua Tagovailoa-Miami
You don’t go all in on a rebuild and draft this guy only to change your mind after one season. If they were not in the hunt he would have started more games this year. There is no story. He is the QB for the foreseeable future.
Aaron Rodgers will never go to 49ers
George from PA : 1/26/2021 4:02 pm : link
For bypassing him and drafting Smith.
No way Watson goes to Wahington.
BigBlueNH : 1/26/2021 6:19 pm : link
With the #19 pick, they don't have the draft capital. Ya, you can throw in future #1s, but no guarantee where they end up. Houston doesn't trade Watson unless it is for a top 5 pick this year, to get their next QB.
I think the Skins
mittenedman : 1/26/2021 6:49 pm : link
will sign Stafford.
I could see
Ike#88 : 1/26/2021 7:02 pm : link
Belichick going for Stafford. He has a few years left with a decent o-line but Bill would need to add a good receiver.

Not at all. The Phins will be keeping him. Tua flashed last season and had a couple of great games. He is now completely healthy after returning from hip surgery last season.
